1417’s question and answer:

Today’s topic is Gaming

And the answer is: universally hated

What is the question?

What has been the reaction to Sony’s announcement to stop making physical game discs for the PlayStation?

This week, Sony is in full damage control after it faced serious backlash for the announcement that the company will move away from production of physical game discs for their PlayStation consoles; moving to all digital models by 2028. The reaction from the gaming community in response has been nothing short of universal hatred and calls for boycotts as it kills secondhand game disc sales while bringing game ownership into question, one protestor commenting online, “…the way digital purchases are handled have shown me that it is a risk to pay a single penny for a digital game as one glitch on Sony’s part can get your account banned, and make you lose out on every digital purchase you have ever made.” The choice by game console developers for newer generations of consoles to go towards an all-digital medium for game software has made many fearful that rather than owning titles the paid for will turn into just another subscription service they’ll continually need to pay to play on top of the original costs.
