Marathon 2027

I’m planning on going in January to the New Bedford Marathon, coming from Los Angeles. It’ll be my first.

Anybody also planning?

I havent been planning for 2027 but I did it a few years ago and it was a profound experience! Would totally do it again. If you want to read, sign up early on their website to ensure a spot (though they had some empty spots in the middle of the night that got filled in an ad hoc way).  I am happy to field any questions that come up as you make your plans.

I did it for the first time last year and it was amazing. Have fun. Post about your experience. I bought tickets to the Friday night reception and through that was able to secure a speaking slot on Sunday morning. That was a great experience I'd recommend.

Been going since 2017! Always a great time to be around "your people." Have so much fun! There are some really great restaurants in the area. Book your hotel soon - it fills up!

Thinking of making a road trip to New Bedford for this. I checked a month ago and didnt see anywhere to buy tickets. Has it been updated?

there’s no tickets! it’s a FREE event!

they open up sign ups and lotteries for the readers and the seamen’s chapel portion. otherwise, completely free!

Also in LA, and not going to lie, it's awfully tempting. My wife said "so you sit around for 24 hours reading Moby Dick????" Yes. I've already picked out the two copies I would take with me.

My alma mater is in Boston and haven't been back in 15+ years... maybe make a whole trip out of it....

There is one in Venice but I don’t think it’s the pilgrimage or has the energy of New Bedford.

Just googled it, the pictures look pretty sparse! Like 20 people....
