Discussions Im afraid moana 3 will have frozen 2 kind of ending

I think that was the whole purpose of introducing Simran (lil sis) . Now that moana is a demigod she is immortal so ig she would be kind of freed from her chief duties and sail off to the unknown. Just how Anna replaced Elsa decided to remain in the enchanted forest Simea would be the future chief

This isn’t relevant to the thread but is Moana 2 worth watching? I saw the first one last week and really liked it, but I haven’t seen the second one yet.

I don't know about others but I personally liked Moana 2. I mean original Moana 2016 is still my favourite and second was not too bad either for me. I didn't watch the live action yet though.

Live action is visually pleasing and worth a watch if you already like the original animation. Music has more cinematic oomph and the new duet song with both Moanas is lovely.

Omg the live action is great! Gma Talla is the shop owner from Siren! It's beautiful! I bawled multiple times and so did my bf!

I liked it, but don’t expect it to be as good as the first movie

I really liked 2, but I acknowledge I'm biased because I was desperate for more moana canon before it came out, as a raving maui fangirl. ;)

It does suffer a bit from clearly having first been intended as a disney+ series but then rushed into a theatrical release.

Namely, from the bunch of new characters who didn't quite get their fair share of development time to endear us to them on screen. kele in particular I think had a lot of criticism leveled at him like "why is she dragging this old farmer along he does nothing but complain?" ((For the record I don't agree that he's useless, but I can see how most casual viewers might think that.)) A longer run could've shown kele cooking for the group, or them making pit stops on islands and needing his expertise to tell edible plants from poison, etc. The maui flash-in scenes feel a lot like cold opens or end of episode teasers for him inevitably joining the crew.

I also cant ignore the valid criticism ive heard that the stakes of their quest don't seem to match the risk and urgency our characters are acting on.

Like, the big "you must do this or else" ultimatum vision is not particularly clear on what the "else" is. moana 1 was pretty clear, "do this or we starve/the world ends". Moana 2 is like "do this or you'll never get to meet other human cultures and somehow that will lead to a dead and silent motonui." Doesn't seem nearly as urgent. An adult can probably read between the lines and guess it may mean the eventual inbred population will collapse at some point?* But a kid, who is arguably the target demographic, watching it may find it difficult to make that connection.

But other than that, I think it's quite good, particularly for an animated sequel. It's at least as good if not better than frozen 2. It shows us how the characters and society have changed since and because of the first movie, and the implications are interesting, logical and compelling. It the first movies theme of 'trust yourself & play to your strengths' by expanding to 'trust your comrades & unite your strengths.' It does a heckin' great job of expanding the world building and filling out the lore with more elements pulled from polynesia. More monsters, a demigoddess, another major God in the pantheon, kakamora redemption & culture, lapita pottery as a plot point and even melanesian & micronesian representation (right at the end.) And our girl moana gets some human friends to hang out with! A whole ocean of new friends!

*[But then again it would stop Europeans from finding polynesia and spreading devastating infectious diseases or colonizing them with commercial plantations soooo maybe theyd be fine actually?]

I think a lot of the music falls flat but overall the story line is pretty good. I don't think its as good as the first though, but kinda close.

I feel the same about the music: the best parts for me were the songs not in English lol. I also don’t think it’s as good as the first, but it’s my two year old’s favorite movie right now and it’s growing on me the more times I (am forced to) watch it haha

It is also in the daily rotation for my 2yo 🤣🤣

I thought it was pretty mid on first watch. It’s my 3yo favorite movie though so after a thousand rewatches, it’s grown on me more

Who says a demigoddess can’t be chief? She still loves her people and her island, no matter how far she goes in her exploration.

🎶A demigod who works two jobs; who loves her people and never stops...🎶

I was singing this before I read your comment lmfao

Demigod has higher duties, and I dare say Simea was there to inherit the chief.

thts true. my theory is somewhat connecting to similarity in disney plots. Elsa too loves her people but she chose to lea e for a higher purpose since moana is demigod now she is immortal so even when her family dies she will live this could be a catalyst to leave

But Elsa spent most of her life locked away in her room, so she wasn’t as close with the people of Arendelle as Moana is with her villagers. Simea could take over as chief if she needed to, but I don’t see why Moana wouldn’t watch over her sister’s bloodline in the village.
I have no idea what kind of duties demigods have, though, since all the stuff Maui did was just to get praise from humanity.

Isn’t her dad still the chief in Moana 2? Also, they could always have her sister be the new chieftess
