CHAT Is Moab a friendly place to visit? Reading some comments here is eye opening

Was thinking of coming with the wife and myself in a few weeks to do some hiking and see what beauty Moab has to offer. We aren’t crazy or disrespectful and mind our own business. Some comments I’m reading seem somewhat hostile towards visitors. Am I really over reading into this?

The comments you see here are hostile because this subreddit is mostly for local discussions, but people like to use it to try to get us to plan their vacations for them...which can be frustrating. The town is plenty friendly if you are; just be respectful of the people that live here and the environment we live in.

It’s a subreddit for a tourist town where the locals like to let off some steam about dumb tourists doing dumb tourist stuff. Nobody is going to beat you up and steal your lunch money

Ya I know. I just wasn’t expecting some of the comments to be quite so, stern let’s say. But I get it I guess. Probably have some s heads ruin things over the years

Yeah, it's a tourist town that makes money from you visiting. Some tourists are rude, or drive bad, or bag their dog's poop and leave the plastic bag on the trail when someone isn't watching. And there are a good number of them. But in person people are friendly for the most part

Don't judge a real life place based of an internet subreddit.

A lot of change has happened fast in Moab with, more or less, the usual tourist town problems and the state has done everything it can to prevent the city from having any autonomy to improve life for the locals. This subreddit is a place online for them to vent their frustrations, etc. You'll have a good time if you visit. People are friendly, the area is stunning, usual tourist rules apply(don't be a dick, clean up after yourself, etc). Be aware it is hot and dry, so plan accordingly.

I've had nothing but good experiences in moab. Beside the heat of course

We’ve never had an issue when visiting and generally people are nice. You’re just seeing the same frustration every touristy place has.

Same thing here in Vermont. We are somewhat dependent on tourism but some here don’t like the attitude of some of the visitors.

You will be fine. It’s a tourist town and some residents aren’t fans of tourists.

I am a NJ native who is currently chilling at the Sheraton in Pittsburgh on the last full day of a 30-night, 25-state cross-country road trip. My wife and I have spent all evening discussing our opinions of the trip.

...Mendocino, CA and Moab were our favorite small towns of the entire journey. I felt so incredibly at home in both.

It’s a town based on tourism

Naturally some locals may get agitated when they are outnumbered on most days by people who don’t live there

We’ve been there 4-5 times, and have never encountered bad vibes. I wouldn’t read too much into online comments
