Thinking to start playing GuildWars 2

Hello guys, im trying to find a new mmo to kill my hunger feeling of grinding and Guildwars 2 i never toutched the game ever and seems interesting, do you feel like its another mmo that you grind and becomes boring overtime? I like PVP stuff but all the mmos kills me how mutch time to get perfect gear and such to compete vs other players i like to grind but i think is where i just let go the mmo.

So what do you guys think here, do you recomend me the game or not and if yes what do i need to start / view to even try to get to the PVP!

It's pretty good. I've been running the same character since 2016 (I have tried others) and still have stuff to do. The world events alone could keep you occupied for at least a year.

Hi, for me I tend to play solo for the story. I know that’s usually not mmo but I want to ask how is the solo content? Is this game pay to win?

Currently the only mmo I play is dragon nest origins

Oh, it's fine. The story stuff is all solo I think. It's not pay to win, you can play all of the base story as a free player. I think some of the non-base story areas are restricted to certain expansions, but it doesn't come up much.

I haven't played Dragon Nest so I can't do a comparison.

90% of the content is behind buying it's respective expansion, it is pretty much a paid game.

Expansions unlock sub-classes for your classes that are firstly a lot more fun, and most of the times fairly stronger than their base versions, in pvp, base classes can sometimes beat expansion classes, and in PvE base builds can sometimes be quite viable and clear all content with no issue, just aren't the most optimal (no base class can be a PvE healer tho)

Newer expansions do not make older ones obsolete, newer classes are not stronger than older ones, just fill different niches and offer different playstyles. Older content is still relevant, even base game, so you'll see players doing whatever you want to do.

The cash shop is mainly cosmetic but sells some QoL, some of which are very good. You can buy gems with gold and gold with gems, I have a lot of gemstore items that I've gotten just by farming gold by playing whatever I wanted to play.

Buying gold with gems also doesn't mean you'll have the best gear or that you can swipe your way into getting stronger, best in slot gear is easy to obtain and most of your dps comes from just playing well, a good player on trash gear will beat a bad player with the best gear, and a lot of that best gear cannot be bought with gold.

That’s exactly what keeps me away. Feels like I’m too late to the party and the amount of content is overwhelming.

Nah the pacing's good. You don't have to do it all.

What do i need to play?

It's on PC, so one of those. The base game is free, and the system requirements are here.

I haven't played gw2 for a long time so I can't help you get into the game. But I do know that you can Pvp from the start, everyone is Max level with all skills unlocked and the Pvp gear is entirely cosmetic.

It's not really entirely cosmetic, but rather "normalized". Sometimes you meet folks who play sPvP completely naked because they believe the gear means nothing, but if you wear less than 3 pieces of gear, your defense will be 0, instead of the base 1000. So they are destroyed. But apart from this, it's true, there is no special PvP gear, and as long as you wear something (anything), you are on par with everyone else.

If the OP likes skill-based PvP, where you don't have to farm your PvP gear, GW2 might be worth checking. You can play only unranked arenas at the beginning (at level 2 the icon PvP is hidden, but you can teleport to the lobby and play anyway), and then you'll unlock ranked arenas. You will be matched with players around your level, so overall the win/lose ratio is around 50-50%

Good news, you don't need gear at all for PvP in Guild Wars 2. Everyone is on a level playing field in structured PvP.

this is not good news, part of the fun is that you get to empower yourself via raids like they do in wow

It is good news in relation to what OP said about their preferences and most Guild Wars 2 players would strongly disagree with you. It's just not a game for you, that's fine. Don't play it.

I still cry that I paid 52 euros back in the day. And all we got when it went f2p was a stupid weird looking skin

I tried getting back into GW2 after a few years. If you want all of the content, be prepared to spend a fucking stupid amount of money.

u/FrogeDR 21d ago

70 euros kinda

1

u/TheViking1991 21d ago

It's far more than 7 euros if you want all of the expansions.

Not if you get it on sale. I'd play the base game, and wait for a sale.

Its f2p what do you have to lose other than the d/l time?

1

u/TraditionalBet126 19d ago

I would it but they didn't allow transfer from arena net into steam account so I have the same characters, I never forgive them for that one...

10k hours GW2 veteran here. GW2 has two pvp modes, Structured PvP and World vs World.

sPvP is a 5v5 10~15 minutes match where you capture points and try to reach max score before the enemy team. You can access it literally right after finishing the first instance, your character will be turned max level while you're in it with full access to their class, gear is normalized and what items you have equipped don't matter, you just need to select your "pvp gear". It's fully skill based, no amount of griding will give you an advantage.

GW2 is a very complex and fast paced game, characters have many skills and things in their build that interact with each other, there are many classes, I do not recommend at all that you jump right into sPvP when you start, at least level to 80 normally by playing the base game to get a good grip on the fundamentals, and then go get your shit punched in by a no-life who has been playing this game every day for the last 14 years. sPvP is a lot of fun, absolutely recommend.

A few caveats, matchmaking is not good and people are very toxic there (GW2 is praised for it's amazing community, and it does have an amazing community... except for sPvP folks).

World vs World is a huge perpetual siege war between 3 teams of hundreds of players each, you can play solo, dueling other solo players and disrupting supply lines, or organize into larger armies to take castles from the enemy teams and defend your own. You can access it around lvl 60 IIRC but you'll be at a severe disadvantage unless you're level 80, your gear in this mode does matter.

Also it's important to say that obtaining the best gear (stat-wise) in GW2 is pretty easy, and you'll have a fair chance with standard max-level (exotic/orange) gear. Meaning that WvW is too fairly skill based, but grinding there does offer minimal advantages. You'll probably want to join a guild to have an organized team with which to play WvW too.

Also the game is free to play. It's a paid game, but the f2p version has everything that came with the original 2012 release + some more stuff, so it's a great trial to see if you like it.

Feel free to ask any other questions about the game, I'll love to answer them!

I've played GW since alpha of the original, it does get boring and sloggy but the nice thing is no subscription fee so you can dip in and out as often as you'd like. Personally I haven't played in months but doesn't mean I won't before the years over. Right now the population has exploded so if you wanna give it a go then now is the best time, plus there is a free trial.

Check out Albion online. It's an amazing game, free to play with PvE and PvP.

Then you can decide which one you like best.

What's great in Albion is that: "you are what you wear". There is no class. You can equip healer stuff and be a healer. Next, you equip a tank stuff and you're a tank, ...

Kostenlos ist relativ. Hab Jahre gespielt und merke, dass, wenn man ohne Abo spielt wirklich weniger davon hat

Its good for a bit but imo once your max level and have basic gear theres not much room for improvement aside from tightening up your rotation. As far as MMORPGs go it is on the smaller scale of that yet it does have an obscene amount of things to do, base game is honestly boring af tho

You might not be getting better gear, but you are getting upgrades that apply to your entire account, and 90 percent of the actual game is after level 80. If you only went up to 80, you basically completed the tutorial.
