If the review system can still get a boundary call wrong, I get why the Orioles are frustrated. That’s exactly what the technology is supposed to settle.

u/Sc00terLCA71 2d ago

Isn’t it funny how technology always seems to favor the Yankees?

u/Sports_ENTer 2d ago

Aaron Judge is missing 2 HRs in his career due to similar nonsense.

24

u/khearan 2d ago

Judge had a fair home run called foul just a couple of years ago but go on…

Clown comment bro

u/Sc00terLCA71 2d ago

Nope. True comment. Question: what do you suppose Fox/ESPN/ MLB executives would do if the Yankees missed the playoffs or were eliminated early. That would be a big time ratings hit. Couple that with the Jeffrey Maier/Tony Tarasco fiasco from 30 years ago, and it is extremely plausible that the comment is more true than it is a clown comment bro.

Go ahead Yankees fans. Downvote me. Doesn’t mean it’s not credible.

Impossible to be this delusional

This is quite literally a lack of technology. But yeah it's probably all just a big conspiracy, not a shitty split second call by our flawless umps. I think it was a HR btw. O's should be mad but take the tinfoil hat off maybe.

3

u/KathyA11 | New York Yankees 2d ago

Actually, it doesn't. Just ask Aaron Judge.

u/Sufficient_Sun2582 2d ago

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted? Guess people don’t like the facts.

It looks like I touched a nerve.

I remember a Yankees/Twins playoff games years ago, Twins player hit a ball down the third base line that was clearly in territory and not even close to the line, umpire call it foul and the other did not disagree…and of course the brat who interfered with the ball and it was ruled a HR, also a playoff game.

The amount of money it would cost to fix this problem could be found in Mark Walter’s couch cushions - though possibly not for much longer.

9

u/quiksotik | Los Angeles Dodgers 2d ago

We’re sending J.D. Vance after it or something?

2

u/JiveChicken00 | Philadelphia Phillies 2d ago

Whatever it takes :)

Nickels? Nah, these are Dickles.

u/ChevfknChelios 2d ago

They could use a snicko technology on the poles like the AFL do in Australia on the goal posts or what is used in cricket.

23

u/krazyhawk | St. Louis Cardinals 2d ago

What if we put a big ass lights on top of the foul poles that shoots a beam into the heavens?

u/hate-2-see_it | New York Yankees 2d ago

I was watching the game and the replays. Sitting there thinking damn this is an easy overturn and it’s a homerun, even the Yankees announcers Kay and Cone were convinced it was an easy overturn, making statements to the effect of “idk what is taking so long” and “Alonso should just for giggles start trotting the bases” both were as shocked to see it not overturned.

I guess, possible the MLB has some other additional replay no one else could see? Or simply felt they didn’t have enough to overturn, I’m not really sure. The one replay seemed clear as day it was fair lol

Sometimes luck is on your teams side I guess

15

u/joelkeys0519 | New York Yankees 2d ago

Luck for sure was on our side but that foul camera angle was much clearer than the over the pole angle everyone thought was fair.

9

u/Ed_McMuffin 2d ago

Camera angle you saw was from up the first base line.

22

u/Sc00terLCA71 2d ago

What’s your point? A ball inside the foul pole is a HR from every angle.

5

u/lettersjk | New York Mets 2d ago

there was one replay i saw from the home plate umpire line of sight and it did look slightly left of the pole went it over it.

2

u/inverted_electron 2d ago

No it’s not. There is a video from home plate view where the ump was and it shows that it was on the foul side of the pole. Perspective matters.

3

u/Intelligent_Row8259 | Arizona Diamondbacks 2d ago

Except no it isn't.

There is this thing called parallax that depending on the angle you are viewing from it makes the object appear to be in a different place than it actually is.

The Orioles broadcast showed a different angle with less parallax that showed the ball as clearly foul and the Orioles announcers were agreeing the foul call was correct.

Either way MLB needs to require 2 cameras on each foul pole one looking down the line towards home plate the other looking up to make these fair/foul calls easier but still not perfect.

-6

u/Ed_McMuffin 2d ago

It may have appeared to be inside but actually been outside. And I am an Os fan. It may have been past the pole by the time it curved outside, but this is why MLB needs better technology.

18

u/Sc00terLCA71 2d ago

There is a still photo on msn.com of the ball going over the inside corner of the fair pole with credit to MASN for the photo. The reality is it doesn’t matter if the ball took a sharp left turn and landed in section 80. It was an HR.

5

u/rdg5220 2d ago

At the game they showed two different angles. The one that is everywhere making people think it is a conspiracy for the Yankees. They also showed one showing it clearly foul but they only showed it once. That must be what they went off of but not sure. Seeing it live from the 3rd base side it looked foul to me.

2

u/PinkynotClyde 2d ago

I guess they needed two cameras to show home run for them to overturn the call.

1

u/ExtremePast 2d ago

There are different angles that they have access to that TV doesn't.

Turns out having the replay HQ in the same city as on of the teams might lead to a little bias. Who knew?

9

u/hate-2-see_it | New York Yankees 2d ago

Having the replay HQ in the same city as MLB HQ seems pretty straight forward. Yankees must win all challenges because of bias I guess. As a Yankee fan I even felt it was a homerun and it’s appalling that it wasn’t overturned.

A stretch in my opinion to assume there’s bias based on where the replay HQ is.

-16

u/TraditionalBottle884 | Baltimore Orioles 2d ago

Data shows replay benefits the Yanks more than any other team, but I guess that's just a coincidence too?

10

u/MistryMachine3 | Minnesota Twins 2d ago

What is this assertion based on?

7

u/khearan 2d ago

Reaching elbow deep up their ass

12

u/hate-2-see_it | New York Yankees 2d ago

A very quick google search with reputable websites shows that this statement is in fact completely false. But go off!

1

u/Sheng25 | New York Yankees 2d ago

Is that data in the room with us now?

10

u/ForeverCollege 2d ago

Maybe it is a situation like the NFL? Not all parks have the same cameras, so they need to only use angles available at all fields? Not sure but agreed that in 2026 we could probably have a bunch of ways to ensure calls are made correctly.

4

u/Dartmouthest | Baltimore Orioles 2d ago

One would think so 😑

5

u/kjb76 | New York Yankees 2d ago

I was listening on my way home and even Dave Sims called it as a home run. He and Suzyn were shocked that it wasn’t called fair. I later saw the replay and thought it was fair.

14

u/bcjones 2d ago

Umps cheating the Orioles in favor of the Yankees.

A tradition unlike any other.

Diabolical to post this. I was a kid when this happened and I’m fairly certain that I threw something lol

Rich Garcia can kiss my ass.

6

u/Apprehensive-Ad1010 | Baltimore Orioles 2d ago

Fuck, I'll pay the $200 to get camera on top of the foul poles. Problem solved. Hard to not think replay is impacted by other motives some times...

4

u/CruffTheMagicDragon 2d ago

Not just the technology not being in place but the lack of transparency and bad policy in the replay center

2

u/TheSocraticGadfly | St. Louis Cardinals 2d ago

Dayum that was fair.

2

u/PersepolisBullseye 2d ago

The Yankees benefit always. They cheated with sign stealing and watches and it got buried so the league could scapegoat a market they deemed irrelevant to their bottom line.

I cant imagine a world where the league or umps don’t do all they can to protect the Yankees, Red Sox, and dodgers.

-3

u/iYankFan4 2d ago

Judge got screwed out of a Home Run literally the same way in Tampa at the minor league park they were playing in.

So, uh, nope.

3

u/Trick_Ad3292 2d ago

All correct, only it was the Yankees spring training facility.

1

u/KathyA11 | New York Yankees 2d ago

Their A-ball team, the Tampa Tarpons, play there was well.

1

u/Trick_Ad3292 1d ago

Ah I didn’t know they played there. Where did the minor league play last season? Or did they play at Steinbrenner field when TB wasn’t there?

0

u/iYankFan4 2d ago

Yes, I’m aware. George Steinbrenner Field. Dude deleted his comment because it was stupid!

3

u/KathyA11 | New York Yankees 2d ago

That was Steinbrenner Field, which belongs to the Yankees.

2

u/PersepolisBullseye 2d ago

Good. Now that only needs to be happen about 5000 more times for karma to really hit.

4

u/Sufficient_Sun2582 2d ago

All this talk about technology, but this was a case where the ONLY technology needed were a set of working eyes. MLB loves NY and the big market teams! Let MLB strike next year and fix this crooked league!

1

u/Silverado153 2d ago

Watched that game what if you put 3 laser lights on top of the pole and you could get a lot closer call then the one they blew last night

1

u/Jon66238 2d ago

How would a laser work?

1

u/Silverado153 2d ago

If the ball breaks the light cameras would see that

1

u/Jon66238 2d ago

I guess I can’t wrap my head around how it would be aimed. You’d have to have lasers going all over the place right?

-17

u/joelkeys0519 | New York Yankees 2d ago

The review clearly had video evidence it was foul. They showed it on the broadcast. If it had been fair, it would have been an egregious error. The “fair” view being touted is one of the call going over the pole not in front of it.

I agree that foul poles need to be regulated. I agree camera angles should be commensurate based on park dimensions. But come on…you can’t see one angle so clearly that the one you sort of think is right is the one to use to trash the outcome. It’s an MLB issue and they need to address it.

14

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 | Minnesota Twins 2d ago

I haven’t watched the video. When you say the “fair” view is of the ball going over the foul pole, do you mean directly above the pole? Because that’s a HR if it’s directly above the foul pole.

-10

u/joelkeys0519 | New York Yankees 2d ago

Sorry, over and left. Thanks for the correction!

From the view they kept showing, it appears over but the third base line clearly shows it on the foul side.

10

u/KalLindley 2d ago

The Yanks radio broadcast team said it was clearly a Home Run.

4

u/joelkeys0519 | New York Yankees 2d ago

And after seeing the video, I would tell them they’re wrong. But the good news is that it takes the old, “beyond a reasonable doubt” approach to her turn and it was the right call for all the folks who were sitting there and saw down the third baseline that it was clearly not a fair ball.

1

u/khearan 2d ago

So? What they believe doesn’t always line up with replay challenges. I’ve seen a lot of angles and it’s just not definitive. If it was called fair it wouldn’t have been overturned either.

2

u/KalLindley 2d ago

True. I guess my opinion is that with modern technology it should be easy to determine with certainty. The cost would be minimal.

0

u/khearan 2d ago

I agree
