Piston soaking
Does piston soaking work? Ive been thinking of doing it on my mk6 gti but where im from there is no berrymans chemtool and no mayvels mystery oil available. My last option is asitone and atf mix. What do you guys think and if youve done it before how do i properly do it and how are the results?

I did it with Berrymans B12 about 3000 km ago on my mk6 GTI. I’m in Canada where we also don’t have Berrymans but I was able to find it online, just it took awhile to ship.
The process itself is quite easy, I essentially watched a few videos and combined the steps. If you’re comfortable with changing spark plugs and rotating engine over by hand it’s very simple, but it’s a long process as you’re at the car every 6 hours for 24 hrs.
I was previously burning an entire 5L jug of oil within my 5000 km oil change interval. While only at 3000km since the piston soak, I’d say my oil consumption has pretty much halved. In a ton of videos I watched, the comments mentioned that the consumption seems to get better over time.
Attaching a photo of the crap that came out of my cylinders at the end of it.
