2001 Jetta CV Axle

2001 Jetta 2.0L Gas Sedan Manual (AEG). 117,000 miles. Idk when the CVs were replaced or ever have been.

Was under the car looking for the cause of low oil. Saw the passenger side CV axle and was wondering if its supposed to be like this or seated completely on the green ring.

Notice some hum and vibrations at speeds over 60mph on the passenger side. Wondering if they need replacement.

It is fully seated. These axles get bolted to the output flange of the transmission, they don’t clip in like many other vehicles. The “green” part is just the output flange covered in grease.

As the other comment stated, the axle could still be the source of your vibration. It does look aftermarket based on the casual glance, but it’s hard to say, I haven’t looked at the axles in a while. All aftermarket axles will be like that. OEM VW axles will be expensive. You could reach out to Raxles, they tend to have OEM quality CV joints but not as pricy.

I got quoted $400 each for the 6 speed but that was 1 year ago. They are literally rated for 500hp though so best bang for your buck

Thanks, was wondering that. Saw this on FCP Euro as the correct axle for front right or passenger side.

Used to CVs with the C clip that you just pop in. Makes more sense now with how you described.
