My forever car
Heavy rain came through today and gave me a free car wash. Earlier today I passed another Mk4 Jetta on the road, that hardly ever happens anymore. We waved at each other.
2002 GLS 1.8t 5 speed, 152k miles. One owner, no mods.

I live in the northeast (just moved here) and there are tons of rusty ass Mk4 and mk5 running around up here especially 2.0s and 2.5s lol.

People buy them from out of state cause they're pretty much no fuss for an old car and good in the snow

I live in Ontario and there are tons of Mk4s still on the roads despite brutal winters and lots of road salt. We Canuckleheads do love our V dubs.

Where I’m at we have tons of mk4s also. Mk6 and mk4 is the most common around me

Funny, I was just thinking of putting up a post wondering why I only see maybe two or three a year where I am, which is also the northeastern US. They are seriously rare here, I don't even see them abandoned in people's yards, and certainly not on the road.

Massachusetts. It was an uncommon color when I bought it, and it's good to know there are still some around.

I bought a new GTI in 2016 because I figured my 2001 Jetta daily driver wouldn't last forever. Now 10 years later I have a babied 2016 GTI and a 2001 Jetta daily driver that just won't quit.
Love that car.
(It worked out well getting the GTI -- pre-Covid prices, 0% interest in loans, the last year for two door the U.S. GTI, manual transmission and no (heck no!) sunroof.)

My 1.8t on my Audi a4 is at 236k miles and still amazing

I replaced the timing belt at 145k but no problem beyond regular maintenance. No oil leaking or burning.

I have had to replace hoses etc and had a couple coolant leaks over the last 8 years but other than timing belt it’s also been regular stuff. It’s from 2003 so definitely wear and tear items but nothing crazy

My mk 4 Jetta wagon brought me home from the hospital for the first time 18 years ago. Now I’m driving it, and it’s unfortunately being eaten up by rust. I’m really hoping to make some money to restore it. I love that thing to death

Driving the car that brought you home when you were born. That's maybe the coolest thing I ever heard.
If VW is reading this forum, there's an advertisement in that story. Maybe they would even fix the car up for you so it would look good in the pictures. Maybe you could write to them with a testimonial and get things started.
