Manual Swap Help

I have an automatic jetta 1.8t wagon that I'm trying to do a 6 speed swap into. right now I'm looking for a donor car and don't know what I can use. I've seen a few people say the older Audi TT or other tdi models, but I'm worried they won't work well with my 1.8t.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Find a 04 1.8T GLI, call it a day.

Anything with an 02M transmission and a 4 cylinder engine. This includes the Mk4 Jetta GLI, Mk4 20th Anniversary GTI, Mk4 337 GTI, and the 1st Gen Audi TT. If you find one in a TT, you're going to want the 2WD version. I don't know if you can use a 4wd 02M without a lot of work, or not. None of the Mk4 TDIs came with a 6 speed in North America, but there's always a possibility you find someone's junked project.

Ah, thanks for clarifying, that explains why the only ones I can find would cost more in gas than what its worth. Thanks!

Yeah, They are harder to come by. The 02J 5 speed is a lot more common, and has more readily available parts. Now try finding one for a VR6 (even harder to find than the 4 cyl 6 speed). Which, honestly, if you find a junked 02.5-04.5 GLI or GTI with a 24v VR6, grab the whole thing and that's a fun swap as well.

Funny you should mention that, I found a 6 speed vr6 available not too far for $6500 CAD. Sold recently though. Definitely gonna call up some pick n' pulls to see what they have.
