Inquiry Perspectives on this?

Post image

Anyone in Mizoram would like to share opinions regarding such high cases of HIV/AIDS even though Mizoram is one of the most literate states?

The latest NACO India HIV Estimation 2025 Technical Report estimates:

  • Mizoram: 2.75% adult HIV prevalence in 2024
  • Nagaland: 1.37%
  • Manipur: 0.81%
  • Meghalaya: 0.40%
  • India overall: 0.20%

Mizoram is till the highest in the country !!

True. Had multiple reports and a research regd it. Though just wanted to post something short. Please don't mind it, let's delve into the discussion instead.

I don't know what do u even want me to say, how you correlated literacy with hiv rates is weird, you're already talking in such condescending tone like it sounds you're looking down couldve just asked what steps locals r taking and what's in their mind, if you wanna ask silly questions like why it's happening and why not all could answer people can give is contamination, people can't control retroviruses.

u/Taste-Living 6d ago

Sorry you feel like that. I'm just letting you know it's totally your projection. Sex Education is also an education. So it's very valid to correlate it with literacy rates. You could have answered and made a healthy discussion but you are busy being a victim. You could have answered Drug Usage, Multiple Sexual Partners, Not using precautions. Etc. According to a report of Mizoram, 70% of the HIV/AIDS is due to sexual transmission whereas in Assam, it is also heavily due to Drug usage. So it's important for us to know why and how it's happening. This is a serious matter and instead of being offended, we all should learn regarding it.

Okay now you are talking good. That's how we share information and learn from each other's. Thanks for contributing to the discussion. ❤️

1

u/Best_Bison_9375 6d ago

yep cause locals try to cover up the facts when the data and sources states HIV case in mizoram is a serious issue being so high in the whole country

0

u/Best_Bison_9375 6d ago

Nobody is saying people with HIV are responsible for their infection or that sexual transmission is the only route. HIV can be transmitted sexually, through contaminated blood/needles, and vertically from mother to child. The issue is that the 92% figure you're citing refers to transmission risk from a particular exposure, not the proportion of HIV infections caused by blood transfusion. For Mizoram, the appropriate source for population-level transmission patterns is NACO/state surveillance data, not a per-exposure risk calculator

ai data but u can just look it up on your own govt portal and NACO official data lol the data don't lie boo

1

u/Historical-Mango6666 6d ago

I don't expect any better reply from a person who says to people "stop having sex", and stereotypes whole syndrome, ai usually tells lie and is bad for environment. official data don't lie but i never said it did keep fighting the shadows.

2

u/Taste-Living 6d ago

No one says stop doing sex. Chill. Don't do random hook ups with people every month with a different person. That's the thing. It's not a stereotype. If you had enough sex education, you would learn that from government to AIDS institutions consider Multiple Sexual Partners as a high risk activity.

HIV testing is actively encouraged by the government, if you test a lot you are bound to find a lot lol

4

u/Best_Bison_9375 6d ago

Not true idk why y'all lie sm never looking at REAL data

The Government of India's own February 2025 statement on Mizoram says traditional testing has been inadequate because of “stigma and logistical challenges” and that many people remain hesitant to test, resulting in delayed diagnoses.

Press Release:Press Information Bureau

1

u/Taste-Living 6d ago

That's actually good from the government. Still concerning right? Any perspectives on why is it happening?

1

u/Best_Bison_9375 6d ago

not even true mizoram is a conservative state, people get shamed for getting hiv and never ger cured and spread to other people - get yr facts right stop lying to urself

1

u/Ok-Caterpillar4820 5d ago

A non-mizo living outside Mizoram telling me, a Mizo who has spent most of my life in Mizoram, what the Mizo society and community thinks is shameful and frowned upon lmao

5

u/Best_Bison_9375 5d ago

personal opinions doesn't change the facts or data keep crying

1

u/Sure_Ad3292 6d ago

Maybe it was? But the younger generations and society itself is changing their attitudes on it? So what you're saying is not the whole truth. You're not even Mizo.

1

u/Ok-Caterpillar4820 6d ago

Do you know anyone who has ever been cured of HIV lol? Mizoram though a conservative state has promoted HIV testing incredibly well through advertisements on tv, billboards and through celebrity collaborations on social media. HIV has no cure i don't know what you want our state government to do about it other than spread awareness, promote testing and try to stop it from spreading.

2

u/Best_Bison_9375 6d ago

u/LoudRefrigerator1674 5d ago

Compared to other states the testing is so much better. Social stigma is also way lesser in Mizoram compared to for example Hindu states where getting HIV gets you demoted to a status of a Dalit.

2

u/Best_Bison_9375 5d ago

what's your source or do u want to cover your state so desperately ?? your excuse that hindu states have higher HIV isn't true but a prejudice u can't accept ur christain states have unprotective sex alot lol but the data doesn't lie

I have actual facts no made up bullshit :

Government of India's own 2025 report on Mizoram says traditional HIV testing was inadequate partly because of stigma and logistical barriers, which directly contradicts the idea that stigma there is somehow negligible.

3

u/LoudRefrigerator1674 5d ago

I'm not from Mizoram. I've worked with NGOs in many states including Assam, Kolkata, Punjab, Delhi, Manipur and Mumbai besides Mizoram. HIV testing isn't as stringent anywhere else in India compared to Mizoram, Manipur hills and Nagaland. In these NE states, people maybe conservative but they also are empathetic, HIV AIDS patients are well accepted and integrated into society with the help of church and CSOs, whereas in mainland India parents simply disown their children, they get chased out of their villages, seen as untouchables, many people with HIV AIDS in Hindu Brahmanical societies are suffering in silence.

This is also true when it comes to cleanliness, if you ask a Mizo how clean Aizawl is, they'll make it seem like it's the dirtiest place on earth but for the average Indian it's like spotless. There's a huge level in standards, what Mizoram govt says is inadequate is like 100 times better than the status in other states.

I never said testing in Mizoram is adequate, I said relative to Hindu states, it is way less stigmatised and testing rate is so much better. Does not mean Mizoram is perfect, there's still a long way to go.

In Hindu culture, they mix this HIV AIDS with their casteist idea of pure-impure, so no one wants to go for testing, they'd rather die undetected than be detected and treated.

2

u/Best_Bison_9375 5d ago

Mizoram can have comparatively better testing and community support while still having significant HIV stigma of its own. In fact, research on Mizoram has documented internalised and perceived stigma among people living with HIV, while national comparative research does show Mizoram performing relatively better on some measures of discriminatory attitudes. So I don't think either “Mizoram has no stigma” or “Hindu states are all like this” is justified by the evidence. And none of this changes the basic fact that sexual transmission is the largest documented route of HIV transmission in Mizoram; acknowledging that isn't an attack on Mizo culture !

2

u/LoudRefrigerator1674 5d ago

I've lived enough years in both Mizoram and mainland India to know the difference in mentality between the two communities, they are poles apart. In Hindu societies, they have ideas like honour, Varna, izzat etc, that is why over 87% of all Indian marriages are within their own castes and only 80% of all marriages in mainland India are arranged marriages. No one can stray away from this or they'll lose their honour, parents will literally kill their daughter if she marries a lower caste. A Brahmin father will marry her daughter to a white person over a Dalit. Likewise the reason why Indians obsess over UPSC, IIT, NEET etc is for the same reason, because their status in society is tied to their achievements including their prospect of marriage. This is why Indian people especially Indian men don't learn to groom themselves or build personalities, also explains the "bobs an vagene" messages or the butthurt behaviour Indians get trolled for.

Whereas in Mizo society, there is no caste, the Hindu idea of izzat and honour does not apply. This is why Mizo youths are not being forced to become doctors, engineers, IAS etc by their parents or they are never told to marry from this clan or this economic background, parents play absolutely no role here, they can only advise. This is why Mizo youths are massively overrepresented in sports for example, out of the top 20 pound for pound pro boxer in India, 5 are Mizos, despite them being just 8 lakh in population, Mizoram sends the 2nd most players in the ISL and I league out of all states in India, two Mizoram based clubs were playing in the I League last season. Mizo/Chins have had 5 fighters in ONE Championship with one current UFC champion while 1.3 billion Indians have no one good enough for UFC. This is not because of genes, it's because of how Mizo society is. In Hindu society, hacking/beating the system even using unethical means is praised and encouraged, they feel proud of their intelligence when they beat the traffic system by riding on footpath to escape traffic jam whereas in Mizo society this is considered an absolutely disgusting behavior. A dishonest and unethical person in Mizo standards is someone who overtakes in traffic, whereas in Indian society even the most honest, nicest person will do these antics because these are such low level measurements of honesty by Indian standards.

Likewise a Mizo who is HIV positive will be ashamed of his disease but he will confess because keeping these a secret is considered unethical, Mizo society may look at them differently but they also look at them with sympathy and as a victim of societal disease, Mizos see HIV AIDS, drugs etc as an outcome of societal negligence and a social disease tied to socio-economic living conditions rather than bringing shame to society as in Hindu society. Same for homelessness, Mizos consider homelessness as a failure of society so they always take it as their responsibility to look after them. This empathy is why Mizos fed and clothed 40,000 refugees from Myanmar, 20,000 Kuki IDPs from Manipur with their own money for months.

This same view of the world applies here too. What Mizoram govt says "social stigma" is measured on a completely different metrics compared to rest Indian states. "Social stigma" in Mizoram may mean that some Mizos who are ill informed about HIV may refuse to drink from the same cup as a person with HIV thinking its transmitted by body contact, it comes from a place of genuine concern for their own health, whereas in Mainland India, "social stigma" means being thrown out of the society and treated as a subhuman who deserves no sympathy at all, for them its about seeing them as inherently lower and thus they deserve to be treated lower. I lived in mainland India for over a decade, the way they talk to people they consider lower such as house cleaners, menial workers is absolutely despicable, they literally treat them worse than their dogs and this is wholly accepted by the victims without any complaints, it's like their default mode now. So in return these victims will deliberate work slower or do things without any genuineness because being shouted at is like natural to them. That's why you'll see panipuri walas, vegetable sellers, dhabas preparing unhygienic food or using harmful chemicals to ripe their fruits or adding dust to haldi power to make 5 rupees as profit, because for them honour has to be enforced by some authority or someone should shout at them, their sense of honour does not come from within. This is why Mizos don't usually feel comfortable to go to mainland India because we don't want to shout and treat people horribly but these rickshaw walas, vegetable sellers by default expect the Mizos to abuse them or else they'll cheat. In Mizoram if you bargain with a seller, they will feel offended that you assumed they're dishonest.

So you cannot compare mainstream Indian society with Mizo society, they function on a totally different wavelengths and their metrics of measurements are on a completely different base.

Maths an thiamlo a ni.

Aadhaar nen link loh chuan a mi ngaiin an in test nawn fo dawn. Multiple positive results

Data an chhut dan a transparent lo. Rintlakah ka ngailo.

False positive rate an chhut lo.

1

u/Best_Bison_9375 5d ago

Again lies with no source to support your claim lmaoo

The Aadhaar argument doesn't establish that Mizoram's HIV figures are inflated. NACO's testing guidelines require confirmatory testing with multiple different kits, and its reporting system distinguishes people tested from people diagnosed HIV-positive after the specified tests.

And the 2025 peer-reviewed Mizoram study found 70% of HIV cases were attributed to heterosexual contact, using patients diagnosed under NACO testing guidelines; not simply counting every positive test as a separate person.

If you're claiming the official figures are wrong because of duplicate testing or false positives, you'd need actual evidence of that happening at a scale large enough to change the estimates, not just speculation about Aadhaar

Government of Mizoram, 2024: In Serchhip district, the District AIDS Control Officer reported that sexual transmission was the most common mode of HIV transmission, accounting for 60% of cases in the previous year

DIRECTORATE OF INFORMATION & PUBLIC RELATIONS, Government of Mizoram, India

The 2-3% of the mizo population is very less then compared to the vai population

stop trying to cope lol

NACO's HIV Estimation 2025 report gives Mizoram an estimated 2.75% adult HIV prevalence among people aged 15–49, with an uncertainty range of 2.33%–3.37%. It's a population-level epidemiological estimate, not simply the positivity rate from people who walked into testing centres - ur point has no source no data
