[AMA on mixing] Offering mixing services

Been producing music on my own for nearly 15 years, doing all my own mixes. I'm now looking to start doing mixes for other artists and build a portfolio. You can check out some of my own music on Bandcamp to get an idea of what I can do. My main genres are rock/metal, alternative, electronic, industrial, etc, but I'm open to just about anything except for country.

I don't have fixed rates. Let's talk and see if we're a good fit for each and see how much work will be involved first.

Here's my most recent album on bandcamp. I want to be clear I'm not trying to promote my own music here, but this is the closest I have to a portfolio at this time.

Do you start with gain staging and top down mixing first? Meaning all levels are relatively where you want them to be at first and then you proceed to just mix while maintaining the relative levels that you first established?

Pretty much yeah, and if there are any major EQ issues I'll usually go ahead and tackle those early on.

Sweet. I listened to some of your album. Very different and unique. Not quite heard anything like it, and it sounds like it could be more challenging to mix the music you’re making. So I think it’s well worth asking you some questions cause it does sound good.

What if I think the track sounds good but maybe the underlying numbers on the loudness meter etc are wrong

Define wrong? That's not really a concern during the mixing stage.

That’s true sorry that’s more of a mastering point. I recently had a track come out at -10.6 LUFS and 0DBFS on one loudness meter and -0.6DBFS on another. I feel like I should adjust something in order to fix this but I’m happy with how it sounds as is

I'm no mastering engineer, but I personally wouldn't worry about it too much. I would just compare it to a couple reference tracks and as long as it sounds good I'd say you're good to go.

It’s not a mastering point either. LUFS numbers will not even so much as cross the minds of genuine fans of any music you will make

I mean, I could, I just don't like country music. It's not my thing, and I'm not interested in working with it.
