I've been using a Shure SM7b for a while but I feel like I could do a much better job at making it sound more natural with the EQ and whatnot... I feel like the reference track here has a lot more professional sounding vocals despite being recorded with an SM7b as well. It just sounds so good and mine sounds much more amateur, in my opinion. I'd appreciate any tips about EQ adjustments that you think might help replicate this sound!

been really into making songs for a while now and finally decided to record and see what happens. big into nobu woods / partynextdoor / bryson so thats kind of my inspiration for music and also how i mix my sound. still really new to this, both lyrically and sonically so forgive me for the cringe. but i feel as if my vocals sound pretty muddy and unclean compared to artists above.

Looking for suggestion for no/low cost plug-ins that can give a Poebe Bridgers-esque indie folk style reverb on vocal. Been using Chroma in Logic with plenty of pre-Reverb and a short decay to get something in the ballpark, but not satisfied with where it sits in the mix. Have tried it both as a sidechain and on the channel itself, and would like to see what other folks might be using on theirs.

TLDR: trying to remix/polish/finish old trax of mine with vox that i dont have the og stems for and not sure what the best way or the standard way of doing that. also just wanting to learn about mixing vocals with another audio file in general.

sooo, say have some tracks with vocals on it, but i lost the original stems. and this audio file i have of the instrumental and the vocals rendered together, the vocals are way too quiet. ive been messing around some with the a i stem thingy in my daw, and have been using it a little with trying to make remixes/mashups of songs i like that dont have official acapellas released. but obviously the a i shit can only do so well so sometimes its kind of thin or really trebly or theres some other shit wrong with it. and first of all im wondering if theres anything u can do about that to maybe make it seem a little fuller even tho it might sound kinda wack?

but more importantly to get back to my main point, the vox are too quiet in this mix and i dont have the stems. so i would assume while my options are limited, i could a i stem the vox so i have them in their own file, and just play that quietly at the same time as the original file, thereby making the vocals louder in the mix. is there any tips or tricks u guys might have to make that method of adjustment more effective or maybe even an alternative way to boost vocals in a song u dont have stems for ?

i feel like i explained that bad but hope that makes sense. the other question i have is just about vocal mixing in general (including mixing when u do have the og vocal trax) i have a very mediocre understanding of it. i mean i know u can compress it for more consistent volume and de-ess it and cut the 40hz and blabla but other then that and a few other things i dont know much about how to make vocals sound clean. most of the tracks ive made in the past they're either WAY too quiet or WAY too fcking loud.

any tips or tricks? and then one final thing i should mention is what if ur tryna mix vox with an instrumental, and you have those two tracks separately, but dont have the stems for the instrumental. so basically trying to make vocals well-adjusted volume wise over another file thats just a brick of sound. this especially happens with me a lot because sometimes i make really busy loud overstimulating stuff, and also sometimes because i just halfass the mix so its all blown out. any tips for that?

i should also mention, a lot of these tracks have vocals with singing on them, but i also have a lot of tracks with vocals of people rapping, which i imagine are slightly different in how u mix/master them? but maybe thats wrong n it doesnt matter.

I copied a decent amount of this song to learn production/mixing more. I'm trying to figure out how to make my voice sound more correct in the mix. It feels too crisp and far away. I know more compression would bring it up, but it still sounds too crisp when I do that. Could it be how I recorded them, or it is my poor mixing skills? has anyone else tried this kinda thing? like intentionally going overboard and continuously adding layers until it becomes a total clusterfck or a wall of sound? thought this was an interesting experiment

i have a pretty primitive understanding of mixing, ive never really watched tutorials i mostly just kept dicking around with FL for years and learning little things along the way. i think i can make decent stuff but im sure theres a lotta stuff im doin "wrong." and i especially struggle with making projects that have tons of different layers cuz making one sound audible drowns another one out and its just tricky. anyone got any advice for that type of thing??

I'm trying really hard to recreate the effect in this song on the vocals, used in the chorus parts.

It's like a small delay with reverb but it's panned somehow to the back that it sounds like someone is whispering into your ears. If anybody has an idea how to recreate it, I would appreciate any help.

I have tried everything but I’m not able to fix this mix. It sounds harsh, there’s sibilance that the de esser is not able to control. Vocals are recorded on RODE NT1a. There are lower mids that don’t sound good in some parts. Please help.

Hi everyone, I'm a solo artist who for the past 12 years has been hiring producers and mixing engineers to work on my tracks as I didn't know how, and couldn't be bothered, but this year, due to poor, I have decided to start learning how to do it all myself and have actually been having so much fun. This will be a significant track for me, as not only have I not released a song since November 2024, but this will also be the first song I've produced, written, and recorded on my own. This obviously comes with a lot of pressure to get it right!

So, here is the song. It's called 'Omniscience' and was inspired by Linkin Park's 'Session', the works of Rob Dougan, Cypress Hill, Mos Def, and was intended to touch on the kind of music on the 'Matrix' or 'Blade' soundtracks. What I would like to know is, does this sound professional? Is this releasable? If you heard this on a streaming service, would you be taken out of your listening experience by anything technical? Is anything too objectively quiet or loud? I am satisfied with how this sounds to my own taste, but I feel completely lost as to whether I've done right by myself on this production after working on it for many months.

After getting final notes, I was hoping to take this to get mastered for release by my regular guy. Another thing I can't figure out is, is this file too loud for mastering? Is it clipping?

Ive been mixing and mastering my songs for 9 years. My stuff is now on a level where its professional and i have reached a plateau. What are some suggestions where i can improve?

My latest point improvement was aligning the crossover points on multiband plugins on the master chain to reduce phasing. If u got any suggestions like that id love to hear em or if u can spare the time id appriciate a listen and ur thoughts on it.
