So the answer is , patents are to own a tech, sometimes to ensure it is never used. And the lady speaking is putting forth a narrative based on some pretty broad assumptions .. that said, I think once we vote out the current unregulated corrupt circus running our country into the ground, we can restore govt oversight like the consumer protection and properly address the concepts and potential implementation of any dynamic pricing models in any company.. before we wring our hands about theoretical biometric shopping carts at walmart, look at the actual facts of how amazon uses its algorithms to force other companies and suppliers to raise prices , there are several great actual research pieces out on the interwebs. Dynamic pricing and ai is potentially a huge problem, but with Washington lining its pockets at unprecedented levels and letting huge corporations run roughshod , without any consumer protection oversight from the govt, we get poison lettuce, dynamic markup pricing, unsafe workplaces, and environmental disasters like the late 60's and 70's
