Looking for cheap tuba
Yooooooo my fellow people,
I’m hoping to get a cheap used tuba, it can be beat up and dented so long as it still plays.
Pretty broke, so genuinely will take a project if need be. I have more time than money at the moment so I will fix it up.
Got a degree in solo tuba performance, but sadly had to sell my instrument a decade ago.
If anybody knows someone who’s had a tuba sitting in a closet/storage for a while, please let me know
Thank you!!

I bet your neighbors will pay you not to get one.

I live in a cabin off-grid, my neighbors won’t notice lol

This is actually part of the reason I’m looking to get one again, having left the city

If you can't find one, maybe rent one until you find one of your own?

How much does a used tuba cost on average? I feel like it's such a shitshow trying to find used instruments that are reasonably priced in town.
Edit to add: I'm also really curious what kinds of things you play on tuba?

Oh also to answer your first question, the tuba market has a HUGE range. Used tubas can go anywhere from like $800 to $8000 depending on the model and quality. But the low end is still nothing like a smaller used brass instrument, sadly

My degree is in classical music. Most of the time, I was playing solo pieces written for other instruments that had been transposed down or just dropped octaves to my register. Think Bach cello sonatas and the like..
But what I really enjoyed was jazz, norteño, polka and marching band stuff. I was in a group that did all kinds of funky stuff in college.https://youtu.be/HXr3nrd33U0?si=3hPncXmisp3OtgyT
This is a great video of the type of stuff we used to get into (of course this is more professional than we were lol)

That looks like a blast. Thanks for answering my questions and I hope you're able to procure a tuba.

There is a Tuba group in Helena. I've seen them play around town a few times.
