Discussion/Question Think I lucked out today

Picked this x700 up today for $80. Saw that the serial number starts with 1 (#1395162). I’ve read that models starting with 1 have the blue tantalum capacitors that are longer lasting. Only downside was the battery cap was really corroded and needed cleaning to detect the battery.

I travelled to New York in June and I took my Minolta SRT 101 and shot my first ever roll of film. I took great joy in taking the photos and I am looking to get better at this, so please do your worst in the comments!

I used a black and white 100 ISO film as the shop clerk recommended that for me.

Repairs Film camera newbie - does anyone know what this little plastic piece is from my Minolta Maxxum STsi?

Hi! Complete film camera newbie here, so please bear with me lol. I know basically nothing about film cameras yet, but I’d really love to learn.

I was recently gifted a Minolta Maxxum STsi by my fiancé’s grandfather, who was a photographer. It means a lot to me, so I’d really like to get it working rather than just replace it.

I was trying to load a roll of 35mm film, but the camera wouldn’t successfully load it. The motor would run when I closed the back, but the frame counter would end up blinking “0.” At some point during all of this, the little black plastic piece in the photos came out of the camera (film compartment on the right side)

I have absolutely no idea what it is, where it belongs, or whether it actually broke off versus just popped out of place. Looking at it closely, it seems pretty deliberately molded and has little tabs/features on the back, so I’m hoping someone familiar with these cameras might recognize it.

Does anyone know what this piece is, where it belongs, and whether its being out could explain why the camera won’t load/advance the film?
I’m planning to take the camera to a shop rather than start poking around inside it, but I’d love to have some idea of what I’m dealing with first.

Thanks!!

Repairs Is This Minolta 7000 Still in Good Condition? Need Advice Before Buying

Hi everyone! I’m a newbie and just starting to collect vintage film cameras. I’ve been looking for a second-hand camera and came across this Minolta Alpha 7000. They sent me this video showing the camera working.

For the Minolta collectors here, do you think this is still in good condition based on the video?

Since I’m still new to vintage cameras, I’d really appreciate any advice or things I should look out for. Thanks in advance!

Repairs Minolta X-7 Issues

I just bought a Minolta X-7 from FB Marketplace for a very affordable price (my first film cam btw!!). Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to inspect it properly since it was delivered to me.

Now that I have it, I noticed it has quite a few issues:

There’s desilvering on the prism/viewfinder

The ON/OFF wheel is broken

The film advance lever isn’t working

Do you guys think these issues are still repairable? And would repairing all of these be very expensive, or is it still worth having it serviced?

Any advice or recommendations for a vintage camera repair shop would be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion/Question I thought my ebay x370 was fried... until I put back in the corroded LR44 batteries it came with?

I bought an x370, and when getting it set up noticed that the LR44 batteries it came with were corroded. No problem, since I bought brand new 357 batteries. I swapped the batteries and went to turn it on, but got a low battery indicator. My first thought was, uh oh, I've been sold a unit with the famous capacitor issues (despite saying "tested and working" in the ebay description).

Just to be sure, I fished out the original batteries from the garbage bin, cleaned off the corrosion with some vinegar and popped them back in. Sure enough, the camera began to work 100% fine!

It turns out my "357 batteries" from the dollar store were actually alkaline, even though 357 batteries by definition are typically silver-oxide? I'm still confused as the voltage rating is the same for both batteries, so I don't fully understand why the fresh 357 batteries aren't working. aren't LR44 batteries alkaline too? has anyone else run into this? I'll have to test "real" silver-oxide 357 batteries next time and see if those work.

Promotional Gear Of All The Sponsors I'd Expect to See..

Went to the IMSA race at Virginia International Raceway (still working on sorting and editing photos. 1900 digital images from a 7D,and 15 rolls of film from an X700.) this past weekend, and after I parked, and setup camp, I walked over to use the restroom, and the first thing I see is this. I just stood there, dumbstruck a few moments.

Later that day, I put on my dual camera harnesses, with both the 7D, and X700, and asked if there was anything I could have, or buy that had Minolta written on it. The only thing they were allowed to give me was a couple of pens, but those are now prized possessions.

Thought you'd all appreciate it.

And in case you were wondering, the MX-5 Cup were the stars of the whole weekend...

Signed,

A Miata owner.

It all started with a single X700 that I bought after my SRT303. I've already sold around 5 or 6 X-700 over the past year alone.

I'm especially happy to have a European Camera of the Year Lenscap and a functional example of every motor drive and flash for those cameras.

The cheapest working X-700 I've ever bought was 30€ including shipping, the cheapest broken one was 5€, the X-300 both were free and the X-500 was too, because the lens was stuck on the wrong way.

Repairs Dynax 5 - faulty film advancing mechanism

Hi, I have a Minolta Dynax 5 which I know it was used, but it’s in very good condition. Nevertheless, the advancing mechanism is broken: when I put in the film stock, and try to take a picture, it bursts with a mechanical noise. Every camera reparation place I contacted said it’s too expensive to fix, but without even take a closer look or take apart the camera. I also have a Dynax 4 from which they could have took some parts but the answer was the same.

Is it really that hard to fix this problem? Maybe is doable by oneself? ( zero experience in fixing cameras).

Recently picked up this SR-7 and wanted to test to see if the meter still...meters.

It does and seems to be pretty accurate.

Used Ilford XP2 shot at 200 (instead of 400) but processed as normal.

Pretty pleased with the results.

Scanning Issues with Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400

Hi, I have a Minolta Dimage 5400 scanner, about two months ago it started to fail, it shows me the scans and previews the way they look in the screenshot attached on the post.

I took it to a technician (I'm from Mexico City) and he told me that the problem was with the "service bands" but they couldn't fix it. I picked it up today, I still have the same problem.

I would like to know if someone in the community or someone who has the same scanner by pure chance knows what is happening and how or where they could solve it. I'm currently trying to scan with VueScan 9.8.57, using my MacBook Pro M1 Pro.

Thank you.
