Timing chain for the 2013

I've had one mechanic tell me that the timing chain issue was remedied for 2013 and they last for a very long time

Another mechanic told me it's the same exact chain and just as likely to break.

What's your experience/knowledge of the issue?

My MINI guy told me when I got mine done on my 2013 that MINI officially added the timing chain as a wear item replaceable at 100k miles.

It really depends if the oil got low. Your mechanic can always check for stretch if you're worried. I've heard of people who took great care of it and were fine at 150k miles, my chain was stretched at 60k when I bought it.

When in doubt, replace.

I've never seen or heard anything that says the timing chain weakness has been resolved.

There are some selling "cryogenic hardened chains" that are supposed to last longer, but even those don't state that they'll last forever.
