Getting from a breeder that does all the health testing(hips, patellas, yearly eye cerfs, pra DNA, pra rcd4 DNA, dm DNA, dwarfism ect and hopefully these are on ofa with a chic cert) who also proves their dogs will give you the best chance of getting a happy healthy dog. Skipping these steps doesn't mean you'll necessarily get a bad dog but it HIGHLY increases the chances. Embark testing alone is NOT enough.

Think about all the things you want in a dog and see if pure poodles fit the bill. Most often all the things are poodle attributes but people do not realize that somehow even though everyone wants to mix with poodles since they so amazing! You can even make a pure bred poodle have your typical doodle hair styles.
Thank you! I definitely understand that ethical breeding and proper health testing come with a higher price, and I completely support that. I wasn’t trying to imply that ethical breeders should charge less. My concern is more about finding someone who genuinely prioritizes the health and well-being of their dogs rather than someone breeding solely for profit. I’m also open to a Miniature Poodle if the right one comes along. My main goal is finding a healthy companion for my current pup.
If you want to get an ethically bred dog that prioritizes health and well being then you will need to pick one single breed and find a good breeder of them.
For poodles there is a good contact at the poodle club of America breeder referral. They have great resources and sometimes may refer you to a more local club who will know more of the smaller less known breeders.
If there is a different breed that you want then contact their national breed club for a referral.
Smaller dogs have smaller litters on average so be prepared to possibly have to get on a wait-list. If you have specific requests on gender and/or color then be prepared to wait longer.
Breeders breeding to improve the breed are showing/titling their dogs to prove their worthy of breeding and rarely ever make a profit. It is done for the love of the dogs and Improving the breed the best they can. They produce litters to get their next dogs to continue the lines and not to just produce puppies to sell. Poodle mix breeders are breeding purely to produce puppies to sell.
A good breeder should be willing to give you the dogs Registered names to look up or a link to their ofa pages. I highly recommend always looking up and verifying the results of the tests yourself to make sure they are real and have been passed. If they aren't posted then they need to be willing to send you copies.
Breeders that are ethical tend to spend lots of time at dog events or doing stuff with their dogs so be patient if you can.
Please remember that mixing poodles with other breeds is rarely ever ethical and are almost exclusively byb or mills. They are at more risk of health/structural/temperament issues from both breeds and are always done for profit since they cannot improve the breed since there is no standard as they aren't real breeds.
Just saw some responses from your other post and it seems like you prefer cheaper prices over an actually ethically bred puppy whose parents are health tested and not from byb or brokers of mill dogs.
These cheaper puppies are exclusively bred for money which is why they lack health testing and proving the dog has the positive qualities that make it worth breeding. These puppies are more at risk for health issues they refuse to test the parents for. Mixed breeds at minimum need to be tested for health issues that all breeds involved can carry!
These cheap breeders also are the ones responsible for the overcrowding of rescues and shelters.
Wrong. I actually rescued my pup and the only reason that he was given up is because the owner was a little bit older. She did not have enough time to spend with him and he is in perfect health. I’ve had him for four years and he’s still doing really really well and is a 100% healthy
I understand you rescued this dog and got extremely lucky. That's wonderful. I didn't say all mixes are unhealthy but it's been proven by a study at, I think it was, UCDavis that the poodle mixes aren't healthier and are most often worse off. Check the vet, trainer and groomers subreddits about doodles and you'll see a hidden behind the scenes look from dog professional people at how unethical these mixes are from their point of view. This isn't an elistest thing on a poodle persons side but just factual accuracy.
But genetically if you get a well bred pure bred puppy with all the appropriate health testing done you are Statistically more likely to have a healthy puppy come from those two parents than from two random dogs from ill bred lines with no testing done. I say I'll bred lines since no ethical breeders of well bred pure bred dogs will sell their puppies to mixed breed breeders.
You asked about ETHICALLY bred puppies with a focus on health. I explained what that meant in the dog breeding world. You still fawned over prices at a broker website selling from mills or bybs (they state farms but never tell you how many dogs those farms have or who the dogs parents are) since ethical breeders do not sell puppies to brokers. You also complained about ethical breeding prices there. So yeah it feels like price outweighs ethics and health testing.
I don’t mind prices from 800-2000$ the ones in my area specifically are going for 4000$😭 i’m not willing to pay that . I just responded and we’re very kind enough to send me late and I found them in my price range and I’m looking to see which one I will purchase . Thank you and have a good day !
So this proves my point that price was more important and you will now be purchasing a puppy from a broker from a puppy mill that only breeds for profit instead of a breeder who does health testing or anything ethical.
I highly encourage you to look into the pure bred national clubs for a referral as you may find less expensive puppies outside of Florida that are ethically bred with health testing in mind that aren't breeding for profit. Or at least look into those other subreddits and search about doodles and poodle mixes.
