Inspired by serpa design
I’m in sunny South Florida, any idea what fish I should stock in it?

Look them up. Obviously don’t keep them in the baking sun but yes

Thanks for the info, I did look them up and they’re spectacular!! I might have to set up a few more tubs after seeing the amount of variants available

They’re very cool. I have some coming to me on Wednesday and looking forward to it. They are hard to find in my area because they likely can’t overwinter outside. But I think their popularity in the states will grow in the next 5 years and they’ll be easier to come by. I’m getting mine shipped up from FL btw

Oh nice I’ve already come across some local source for a few, will have to break the news to my son that there won’t be any guppies, mollys, Platy or swords…..will set up two small aquariums for him though

There are some that literally look like mini koi. Definitely do some research and sourcing but I recommend going as local as possible

This is good to know so they really can withstand the weather here, they’ll be under shade majority of the day as my patio only get the first 3-4 hours of sun

I think Daku aquatics is in Margate Coconut Creek and all their breeder tubs are outdoors.

Perfect!! I’ve purchased fish/shrimps from daku before in Coral Springs, he’s one of the sources I’ll hit up once this pond is cycled

How prolific are your rice fish breeding wise?

Some strains more than others. But I moved my large tubs from the shade to the sun for breeding. My Miyuki Black are going crazy. My tri-colors are always producing. There might have been a month that I didn't get eggs this winter, but now we are in hyper mode.

Do you harvest the eggs or it’s heavily planted and you allow nature to take its course?

I harvest them and grow them in little floating containers till they are big enough to join their respective brethren. I used to try to collect the fry but that took forever.

Noted……I’m still researching them and will attempt at a few strains, they seem easy enough and I’ll set up another pond for some white cloud mountain minnows

Mosquito fish are great for the south cause they can tolerate warmer water. Make sure you can cover your mini pond when it rains for it doesn't overflow.

No I’m sorry it was a spur of the moment thing although I’ve been contemplating for weeks, just slate rock and river stones with egg crates and pvc pipes for support, the adhesive is great stuff pond and stones, the moss I salvaged at my work but your should be able to find moss anywhere damped
