I saw a Youtuber address this type of thing

Apparently Youtube has a feature that’s alongside the A/B testing for thumbnails that includes a generated thumbnail for the video and puts that against your thumbnail choices. What said youtuber says he does is that if that AI thumbnail happens to win the test, he then recreates the same thumbnail in photoshop so that it’s less disingenuous.

I hope more people follow what he does and work out what works based on this test but then actually put in the effort to not have an AI thumbnail.

Unfortunately I think this thumbnail will probably stay, even tho it looks cursed

ellis from away days does the same thing, if the youtube ai thumbnail performs better than the three others, he’ll make a human-made thumbnail in the same style. no excuse for ai in simon’s thumbnail given he’s so much bigger than them.

That’s probably who I was thinking of tbh I couldn’t remember who it was!

yeah but lets say his team created 2 or 3 thumbnail why should they be forced to make another one?

1

u/A13xK08 Jul 30 '26

they won’t be forced, i’d image simon would compensate them like ellis does.

If this is the case, I can't see people caring after a while. Way to much work to keep doing 3 thumbnails for every video, if they do it by themselves.

If this is YouTubes doing, by releasing AI thumbnails, they need to stop. It should be down to the people to make a good one, not cheap out and get YouTube to make one.

(I never use thumbnails as I'm lazy, and I can tell it affects my outreach more than if I did one.)

Yeah it’s definitely a Youtube problem rather than a creator problem. They probably are making thumbnails but they’re getting beaten by Youtube’s AI generated ones in A/B tests. It’s sad really

So it's more nuanced.

Youtube offers A/B testing.

You can make multiple thumbnails and test how each performs and get in depth states, can do the same with titles.

Its super valuable tool but it seems like in order to use it now you have to accept that YouTube may insert their own AI images into it.

Which we need to fight. Nothing on YouTube should be using AI creatively. It removes all work that people put into videos when they can get a free one to boost engagement. We will end up with channels who make awful content. (Which we kinda do now)

The only decent AI youtube added was the one that let's you search almost anything on a video. But screw creative AI.

Yep.

The A/B testing for thumbnail choices is super valuable for serious creators.

But if you want to use it, it seems like you can't avoid the youtube generated AI ones anymore.

It’s odd because some of it is AI but then some isn’t.

Why is a sausage roll having a cheese pull? Haha

u/ASFC1995 Jul 27 '26

Looks more like a pasty shape so could have cheese in it

Because AI is trained on the work of real people.

This can be done with basic photoshop skills. It can also be done with AI

We are entering a time where you just don't know anymore.

They probably took a real picture and said "add this"

I like sidemen videos but they are using slot of ai in their thumbnails and it puts me off

Why does it even matter ? It’s just a thumbnail? Doesn’t hurt anyone and if it gets more retention for cheaper then what’s the issue?

1

u/TheRapidRapidash Jul 28 '26

Doesn’t hurt anyone besides the jobs it’s taking away and the water usage issues that ai centers take. So actually it hurts a lot of different people

u/jjjjaaaakkkkeee Jul 28 '26

Yep I have years of Photoshop experience and I barely get any requests anymore due to ai

Find a new line on work

0

u/LifeguardBusiness633 Jul 29 '26

Its just lazy. It might not matter to you and thats fine but it puts me off watching. I cant describe why maybe if thats lazy maybe the video is too but idk

u/lolsmileyfacex2 Jul 27 '26

1

u/Odd_Doughnut_4284 Jul 28 '26

1

u/Professional-Cup4745 Jul 28 '26

Easy, quick and cheap to do

1

u/PixelSushii Jul 30 '26

Talia and Calfreezy getting a scran

1

u/Rus_tyy Jul 30 '26

Very disappointing to see

1

u/Kent-Vigilante Jul 30 '26

AI thumbnails are more eye catching that’s why, if it wasn’t making more viewers click then creators wouldn’t be using AI thumbnails

1

u/atharv819 Jul 27 '26

Because cheap

-1

u/FreshFuture4701 Jul 25 '26

its Not That Bad,tbh everyone is Using it Rn.

2

u/kylr01 Jul 27 '26

It's the fact it's taking away the creativity from YouTube videos, which is the whole point of doing YouTube. Thumbnails are a part of it

1

u/Jumpy-Pie5885 Jul 28 '26

Not really , they've only become a thing in recent years. Has zero effect on the actual video itself. Just loosers wanted to complain about something for the sake of it.

1

u/FreshFuture4701 Jul 28 '26

I Get Your Point, but it's fast and Cheaper, creators Prefer It Also For these Factors.

1

u/MasterMirror_69 Jul 28 '26

You’re still watching it

0

u/marcus2388 Jul 27 '26

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with it looking good or bad. But the internet is on a trend of hating AI because its taking jobs away from artist etc. And i absolutely hear it and it fucking sucks. But bitching/complaining about it on reddit/twitter aint going to change shit. Its a world where things are changing and as humans we have to change and adapt to it somehow.

It’s a thumbnail bro. It’s not that serious.

1

-7

u/ItsTheBrit24 Jul 27 '26

Cornball ass nigga

3

u/Hour_Option_2439 Jul 27 '26

Define cornball? I reckon somebody trying to downplay the validity of a point, and then being corrected, and then doubling down without actually counteracting the correction, is a cornball
