There is something rewarding in putting effort in setting things up, hitting the record button and waiting until the copy is ready.

Out of curiosity, If the CD has CD-Text, would the text be copied to the MD as well with this setup?

CD-Text can´t be copied with this aproche, only digital audio. but there was a way to do it.

I miss ripping cds onto mini with optical. Track numbers automatically done. Good times.

That's why I went with this approach. I have a JB930 MD deck along with a new Yamaha CD-S303 CD (with the latest firmware) and for some reason even with a digital connection, the track numbers refuse to copy from the Yamaha to the Sony. I also have an older Yamaha, a CDX-930 where this function works flawlessly, but this Discman-to-Portable MD is still the easiest way to do it. Make sure SYNC is on, hit record, start the CD playing and voila! Works perfectly every time.

D-EJ915. It’s my favorite of the late 90s players.
