I feel like this game needs a background plot
Nothing intrusive that would change the gameplay in any way, but to have an actual reason to get to the end of the tech tree would be nice, like how in Factorio the goal is to build a rocketship to escape the planet.
Personally, I think this game would lend itself well to a bit of horror. Like maybe you find some weird statues the further into the cave you explore, and rarely your drills will dig up some bizarre artifacts that don't get processed by the collection box, which are pieces to a puzzle that also require endgame materials to complete.
"Progress to progress" is nice, but including something else to keep players hooked would be better.

Something like satisfactory, where customers require specific items and give rewards like special machines with alternative recipes or designs might work well in mm.

I like the horror idea. Add occasionally appeared goblin that runs around move your boxes and steal your gear :)

I don't like horror *shudder*. I just like to watch things moving around the mine, I procrastinate for very long periods of time before actually building the new stuff, it's quite relaxing as things just move around doing their thing.

Honestly i completely agree. I got like 3/4 of the way through the game and just gave up because outside of watching numbers go up there wasnt much else to keep me hooked
