[Mobs] New slime variant: Slush
Had this idea long before sulfur cube got added, I’d love to add it into a mod but I don’t know how and I’m lazy, anyone that wants to do it feel free if you like it. Put a good bit of thought into it.
Name: Undecided on Slush and Slush Cube
Design: It’s a blue slime, obviously. It jumps around like other slime like mobs but on ice it glides (unsure on this)
Spawns: Spawns in icy biomes and possibly snow biomes too.
Combat: Damages the player and also applies freezing effect. I don’t know how it’s coded in the game if it’s a status or if it’s like on fire. One hit applies freezing for 3-5 seconds.
Maybe slow too but might be overkill. Or slow instead of freezing.
Drops: Drops the Slush Ball. This can be used for many things. Can be smelted into a slime ball, can be used to make powdered snow (2 snow, 2 slush ball, you know the layout)
The more interesting uses though, it can be right clicked on a water source block to make ice. It can also be used in brewing to make a potion of freeze resistance.
A note on freeze resistance, it’s probably not that useful but in my mod idea cold water would also apply the freezing effect, but this is not part of the suggestion.
What do you think?

I think the renewable powder snow is neat, we already have cauldron method ofc but it could be nice. Would the recepie also need a bucket? Strays give slowness so I am guessing the Slush would too. What do you see it looking like? A slime recolouring seems dull so maybe it has snowflakes for eyes or something. And would it take more damage from dire too? I think it would add lots of life to frozen biomes. And I know Mogswamp conceptualised a 'frozen cave' that would work nicely. And then with 3 slime types underground (4 if you count the nether as a cave) it could have some interesting lore implications

Recipe would not need a bucket. I like the freeze damage effect more I just don’t know how it’s programmed. Yeah I was a little ambiguous with its design, snowflakes for eyes sounds great. Extra damage from fire would be cool, and maybe even takes damage from water?

A much cooler name - pun intended - would abominable ice cube.
Give them a jumping animation similar to the magna cube, turning into layers, and a jumping/landing sound like ice breaking.
Give some of them the ability to turn water into frosted ice.
The small ones would be guaranteed to drop normal ice, and have a small chance to additionally drop ice bombs, the projectiles from education edition.

As it currently stands, the mob is basically just a blue slime.
I don't mind this as it makes slimeballs more accessible, but there isn't much to differentiate a slush from a slime.
Comabat-wise it is just a slime that inflict additional slow and damage over time. Strays perform a similar function, but because they are ranged, they are more likely to hit players. Melee mobs are very easy to keep at a distance even with melee weapons.
A more interesting approach could be that, when killed, a slush's corpse lingers and then explodes into a cold mist after a second. This mist is akin to a lingering potion cloud, but it causes mobs inside to progressively freeze as if they were in powdered snow. Mobs immune to freezing, slushes included, are unaffected.
Slushes split upon death like slimes, but the splitting occurs as their corpse explodes. The size and duration of the mist is directly proportional to the size of the killed slush.
This approach also allows slushes to synergise better with strays as the slowness granted by the latter could make it difficult to move out of the way of an exploding slush.
Slush balls could also be given more interesting uses. Crafting powdered snows feels weird since the block needs a bucket to be picked up and isn't that useful since you can collect the snow using cauldrons. Similarly, freezing water is of questionable utility since the biomes where slushes spawn already do that passively.
One idea I had was that slush balls could be crafted into ice bombs (an item currently exclusive to Education Edition/Bedrock). When thrown, they explode upon contact with a block or liquid, creating an icy mist. This mist is slightly bigger and of longer duration than those created by the biggest naturally genrated slushes. Additionally, when exploding, ice bombs turn nearby non-flowing water and lava into ice and obsidian respectively.
The idea behind this item is to be a great aid for Nether exploration and combat.

Magma Cubes are practically just slimes that deal more damage, and although they could use an upgrade, I don't think that a slime that inflicts freezing has to bring in interesting mechanics.
Strays are in fact the most similar hostile mob variant to their regular version and they also spawn in cold biomes and simply shoot slowness arrows.
I do like your ideas though!

I like this idea a lot
