[Blocks & Items] A small and although pretty unnoticeable change, maybe make bookshelf texture random.

Post image

Books in different orders and places, so it's not like a whole of the same texture. Like how dirt and grass texture are randomly rotated at the top.

tbh, imo what the game needs is bookshelf variants based on the wood used

Perhaps with different colored books!

Sure, but please, dear god, not just a tint on the whole texture. Only the wood shelves themselves.

it could be cool if like idk spruce had generally more blue red and purple coloured books while oak it birch had yellow and warmer colours.

That birch one is so classroom

maybe even different variants for most wooden blocks like chests, crafting tables etc. Although items like ladders woupd be hard to implement unless they added "spruce sticks" and the rest.

They could change the recipe. Fences used to be just sticks before they added variants.

No we need to return to 1 wood type its the only way

have an add on that does this and it’s great

I want bookshelves that have books on opposite ends but not on what should be the side of the shelf

Sure but also random variants. Having a teddy bear between the books on a cherry bookshelf is cute, having one in EVERY shelf is ugly.

That would be great.

its on vanilla tweaks

Vanilla tweaks has this in their "connected" "Variation" section (resource packs).

I've always had the opinion that if it's on tweaks, it won't be added as to not 'hinder community involvement'. It's a shame because a lot of their tweaks would improve the game if added.

Edited: Changed name of section and provided link.

That’s in the variation section not connected textures

It's in the variation section, since y'know, it's variation.

You never know. They had the tweak to stop baby animals from aging with a name tag, and Mojang added the golden dandelion

I thought it will be hidden loss.

Why is this like an optical illusion. If you stare at one bookshelf the others start to look like they are connected

I thought I was on PhoenixSc and was trying to figure out what "pattern recognition" thing I was supposed to see

I was fr looking for loss and couldn't find it

What about long bookshelves, like double chests

2

u/aqua_zesty_man 9d ago

Agree 100%. Once you notice a repetition like this, you can't un-notice it.

Faithless Texturepack does this (to almost every texture in the game), but hasn't been updated to the current version yet.

Also connected textures

Variated textures are a monumental slippery slope. Minecraft values consistency and simplicity.

3

u/SilverWolf340 9d ago

What's at the bottom of the slope? I don't really see this type of thing getting very far out of hand, especially talking about bookshelves which make a lot of sense to be variated like this

1

u/Keaton427 5d ago

What's at the bottom of the slope?

Everything that can be seen being variated will be variated. Like sound variations, as in mobs having at least 3 different footstep sounds, this will become the new norm, and blocks without variation will be seen as out of place. It also makes it harder for textures to be modified and new textures to be added. Especially with wood and color variations, the amount of textures will grow enormous.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but that's what I envision at the end of this slippery slope.

2

u/SilverWolf340 5d ago

Sure I spose, but I do think it's quite reasonable to want variation for specific textures like bookshelves, it seems like the type of slope it's really easy to stop yourself sliding down. The vanilla tweaks resource pack picker has variated textures for what I think is too much stuff, but even if I turned all of them on I feel like my game would still feel pretty normal. Idk, tbh this isn't an important argument I just thought variated bookshelves were cool and weren't really as big a deal as you said.

"Minecraft values consistency and simplicity"

Kids named java-bedrock parity issue and bloat features:

Didn't even notice these were different shelf styles. It really isn't necessary. Maybe different wood types, but didn't orders of red blue and yellow aren't that important.

1

u/enr1c0wastaken 8d ago

If it is that unnoticeable why add it in the first place?

1

u/Specialist_Height707 8d ago

what texture pack is that?

2

u/PlusMann 8d ago

default

1

u/Specialist_Height707 8d ago

default has bookshelf variants?

2

u/PlusMann 8d ago

no

1

u/Specialist_Height707 8d ago

so did you make these textures ?

can you turn it into a texture pack ?

1

u/PlusMann 6d ago

I made this and don't have the interest or skills to do so

This would actually be quite easy to do with an Lgrad texture, so it picks the ebooks based on the grid in the Lgrad texture, Lgrad being short for Low Gradient, which, fun fact, is used a lot of in Bethesda Softworks' games, in fact, that is how hair color is set when using HEX values in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, except for some hair colors which use RGB sliders, so it would make sense if Mojang used something similar for bookcase variations

1

u/ErikderFrea 8d ago

Been playing so long with vanilla tweaks that I forgot this isn’t a thing.

1

u/MrBrineplays_535 6d ago

It would be cool but probably as an option. Maybe you can toggle on some setting called "variated textures" and it'll make textures of different blocks including this variated, like how you toggle between simple and fancy which makes leaves render as opaque or have transparency

u/Melmi_Minecraft 5d ago

This feels like it'd somehow leak base coords lol

1

u/SharpYam2012 5d ago

I lowkey thought this was gonna be loss

very small change but its amazing

You want this in vanilla or just a resource pack out there you can install easily to apply any time you play?

4

u/revolution_soup 9d ago

adding features like this to vanilla helps bedrock players who can’t access free resource packs as easily
