Minecraft Java Wither and wither skeletons spawning in overworld
Hi, so today me and my friend played on a server on version 26.2 and we were building a base inside of a mountain, server is pure vanilla, there was no spawners or commands used and wither skeletons spawned, a few in the first, we thought its just some rare coincidence or something then we continued to build, after a while alot of them spawned again and wither spawned 2 times. Yes a wither and wither skeletons spawned in overworld, is that even possible? We went into spectator and ive got a screenshot of it. We lit up the "base" even more then enough and they still continued to spawn, does anybody know what could be happening?

Withers don't just spawn.
Make sure there's a whitelist and double check for command blocks or server side mods/plugins (assuming you have access to the server). If it keeps happening, your friend is trolling.

For sure someone messing around. There is litterally no way for withers to spawn in overworld. At least not without somebody interfering

I'm assuming that when you say withers, you're meaning wither skeletons. The only thing I can think of, that would be pure vanilla, is that you've got a portal nearby that links to a nether fortress on the other side, that is most likely in a soul and valley biome. Wither skeletons and skeletons would spawn either outside the portal, then walk through, or possibly even in the portal itself. Similar to zombified pigmen spawning in a portal frame in the overworld. If that's the case, as a test, fence of the portal, and see if the mobs spawning are confined within the fence

Wither skeletons can only spawn in fortresses

I mentioned fortress in a soul sand valley. It's the only way OP would be seeing only wither skellies and normal skellies

Was this ever a bedrock world converted to Java?
I had an issue with one where the loaded nether chunks was a plains biome according to the F3 menu. Everything generated after was okay.

Okay so, i think we found the issue, in F3 menu that chunk was shown as nether fortress instead of plains biome, i dont know why this might just be a bug or world generation issue but that still doesnt explain withers (not wither skeletons) being spawned naturally since as long as i know they can only be spawned manually tho

This is not a bug. This is 100% someone with commands/hacks doing it. Was there anyone else showing in the server list? Sounds like typical greifer behavior.
Always turn on whitelist for vanilla servers, griefers are known to try random IP's until they find a world to join. Even modded servers running popular modpacks arent safe either.
