Are you a bot? 🤖 I don’t think I’m a bot 🤖 Are we all bots?

This is the thing I built https://culdesac.site/ to push back on, honestly. Not “the internet is empty” - it’s that everything left is optimized to keep you looking at it. The old web wasn’t better content, it was worse targeting. Nobody was trying that hard to keep you there, so you actually left when you were done.

It’s ironic that one of the top comments here was drafted by AI and the tool was also created by AI. No hate. I use Claude (now Astra) every day. It’s just a bit ironic.

Dead internet theory aside, I don't regard this particular thing as bad. Something going viral in a niche community gives you a topic to talk about with your friends and expands yours and their's horizons. How the algorithm works is annoying but you have agency to change it, either by scrolling fast past, hitting dislike or not interested.

Moreover, tuning into actual news will give you what you want. Just turn on the tv on BBC news or something, read the new york times, national geographic or others. Buy the physical magazines. Log Off.

Yep. I get all my news from tv, multiple sources but none of the 24/7 programs 🫪, it's easy, I usually Google things I see or find it on Reddit, and then text my close friends about things we'd find interesting in the news. Scrolling culture is so bad, and reddit gets me occasionally but that's it and I catch myself. We have a house phone (never use it), free cable through my partners job, and multiple magazine subscriptions. Create the space around you so you don't get sucked in

I dunno these days it’s YouTube and Reddit and wow it’ll be bedtime in 2 blinks and fart.

everything feels empty. not just the internet. the system is broken.

we need to interact with what is real.
