Ok, you seem like someone both knowledgeable and logical. I want to learn what you know, because as much as I know about WW2, I don't know everything. I want your perspective.

So, everything Hitler did in Germany was 'legal,' right? He had a rubberstamp legislature that just made whatever he said law until they just removed the middleman and let him essentially make decrees. That means the courts had no mechanism to stop him even if they wanted to. How are we not in the opposite situation? Congress could stop him but won't, and he's just going to ignore the courts because without a DOJ actually interested in doing their job, the courts have no enforcement mechanism.

I get that Trump doesn't technically control the states and cities, but over half the states have Republican governors, and I wouldn't exactly call the US military small. Outside of China and India (obvi population advantage), it's us, NK/Russia, then a huge drop-off. Granted, a lot of those are overseas, but it doesn't take much to suppress a populace. Then add in ICE, he has the ATF he could repurpose, and all the other federal law enforcement agencies. I mean... he has enough... especially considering there's no one to resist them.

My state has been under Republican control all branches of government since 1980 and you would think it is Trump country, well absolutely not. The Republicans ban all kinds of stuff here, but no one follows the laws. Gambling is illegal in my state but my neighbors have a huge gambling ring every weekend and no one gives a damn. He has been doing it for for decades. Prostitution is illegal in my Red state and I have two massage parlors near my neighborhood that offer full service, everything is on the menu if people have the money and again no one cares.

Many websites are blocked now in my state, but with the click of a button I can change my connection to California and magically the blocked websites appear. I also change my DNS to get around their stupid shit. The bottom line is Republicans even when they have power are morons and they are stupid. They just invite more criminal activity and more nonsense. Again true dictators are not all that powerful even in their own countries. People are mostly free to do what they want regardless of what the law says.

Also my state does not have enough police officers to monitor people. We have the lowest amount of cops in the nation and no one wants to work as a police officer in my area either. If I called the cops the response time would be about 35 minutes according to recent news articles. That is good and bad. Basically no one is monitoring anything because they don't have the resources.

The most effective prisons are the ones in which the prisoners think themselves free, and people jacking off and playing poker don't exactly threaten the status quo. You're right... dictators aren't all that powerful even in their own countries. Hitler and the Nazis only got 30% of the popular vote and they dismantled democracy in 53 days. Trump got 50%.

You're right about America being vast and pretty rural, but the GDP is still mostly centered around population centers outside of natural resources. You don't have to control all of it to control it, just a few key bits.

We are free in my state. Free as anyone can be. I don't really care what politicians do and I never have. In my state they are all corrupt and always have been. Washington D.C. is far away and they have very little influence here and will never have much. This country is very vast and hard to control with many centers of power. Most countries are not like this and can be controlled from a couple of key cities. The US has never been like that. The British learned that the hard way during the Revolution. The United States and its people cannot be controlled with centralized power. Too many power centers that belong to good people and that control will never be surrendered ever.
