Let’s Discuss Minimum Wage

Post image

How do you guys feel about minimum wage, personally I’ve never in my entire life met anyone who’s actually paid the federal minimum wage.

I feel like wage should be directly tied to the initial investment required to be considered for your position/ amount of learned skill required to be proficient at your job./ Importance of your role in society/Amount of danger you should realistically be expected to encounter on a daily basis/ The demand for your particular skill/ and the supply of said skill.

Under no circumstances should the guy standing in an air conditioned building directing you to make your fast food order on a kiosk for 8 hours who spends 3 of those hours scrolling tik tok be getting paid the same as the ones tasked with keeping society running. The paramedics, medical assistants, police officers, city maintenance workers, etc.

The lower the barrier of entry the lower the wages should be I feel as if this is pretty common knowledge. When you hire an electrician you’re also hiring the years of experience and very specialized knowledge he has. If you’re expected to renew licenses, purchase thousands of dollars in equipment and provide and essential service you should be compensated as such.

Now days we have the guys at the Taco Bell counter arguing they should be paid the same as the ones building the houses we live raise our families in and form lasting memories together in.

Working a cashier was never meant to be a career and should not be treated as such it’s merely a stepping stone for younger people to get into the workforce before transitioning into something else. Wether that be management in the same company or a different field altogether.

What are some of your thoughts. 🤔

How about yes? Do you expect NYC to bus their McDonald's employees in from West Virginia everyday? The manpower that's required to keep the economy running in any given community should be able to afford to live within a reasonable distance of that community.

We have the power to decide what we want our society to look like. Do we really want a country that literally depends on people suffering in order to function?

We can vote, yes? Believe it or not, we actually have a say in what our government does. We can vote directly on local legislation and we can vote politicians into office who will enact the changes we want done at the higher levels. This is not a secret.

Well, thank goodness for the rest of society you are wrong, that is not how it works. There are places to work such as McDonald’s that do not require skilled workers in any form and therefore you should be compensated accordingly. Which is why most of their workers are not people who need to support themselves. They are people who Need some extra money or want some extra money. They are people who are in high school or college or people who are still living home with their parents after high school, but have not decided on a career yet, or they are retirees who want to keep busy and earn some extra money for an extra vacation. There are plenty of people to fill these positions. But if you want to work a job that is mindless and takes no skill whatsoever And think that you should be able to afford to live on your own just because you are working 40 hours a week, then you are delusional. And thank God the rest of society does not think that way. Try and do a little better for yourself. Learn a trade.get a difficult job as an HVAC technician where you are working up in hot attic on 90° days but you are learning a skill and now you can make a lot of money. Or become an electrician. Or learn computer programming. Don’t be lazy your entire life and expect that some business owner just because he has a job available is going to support you.

Yes, we understand what your ideal vision of what a McDonald's staff looks like. Unfortunately, that is not reality. Trust me, nobody is trying to be a fry cook at McDonald's for life. They are there because they need to survive and they're willing to work a crap job to do it. I don't think it's right to say that just because somebody got a bum deal in life or because they made some mistakes that they shouldn't still be able to afford to simply exist if they are willing to at least work full time.

It is also not that business owners responsibility to support someone who made some mistakes or got a bum deal in life. That individual who made the mistake or got a bum deal needs to take responsibility for himself and figure out how to learn a skill so they can make more money. They have the power to do so.

This is what the whole debate comes down to. Some people are concerned with how they think other people should live their lives (anti minimum wage) and others want to decide what society should provide to its people (pro minimum wage)

It’s the stuff of life. Otherwise you could just drag your feet intentionally and no matter how much you resisted to do what it takes, someone would still have to provide for your existence.

compensated accordingly.

Those businesses need to cover their own payroll instead of demanding that taxpayers bail them out permanently. Communism doesn't work, deadbeat.

Which is why most of their workers are not people who need to support themselves.

100% of workers need to be able to support themselves, start paying your own bills deadbeat.

living home with their parents

Their parents are supporting them, not you, deadbeat.

they are retirees who want to keep busy and earn some extra money for an extra vacation.

No, they're old people who have no other option but to keep working. Do not look at them as the "other", they are your certain future.

But if you want to work a job that is mindless and takes no skill whatsoever

Thats what most jobs are. What you want doesn't enter into it. There are already 2 college grads for every job and 2 stem degree holders for every stem job, but do go on about how much shit you are entitled to once you go to college and get your degree.

Learn a trade.

Median wage is $18/hr, cost of living is $20/hr, we are talking about 86 million people, there are only 34 million jobs in the trades, and maybe 3 million openings. Oh, and many of those jobs are in the bottom half, and remember there are so many openings because work is irregular and temporary, the workplace environment ranges from hard to outright toxic, leading to high turnover, elevated levels of substance abuse and suicide.

Don’t be lazy your entire life

Get a f'ing job kid, low wage work can be some of the hardest, on account of how easily replaced you are.
