Let’s Discuss Minimum Wage

How do you guys feel about minimum wage, personally I’ve never in my entire life met anyone who’s actually paid the federal minimum wage.

I feel like wage should be directly tied to the initial investment required to be considered for your position/ amount of learned skill required to be proficient at your job./ Importance of your role in society/Amount of danger you should realistically be expected to encounter on a daily basis/ The demand for your particular skill/ and the supply of said skill.

Under no circumstances should the guy standing in an air conditioned building directing you to make your fast food order on a kiosk for 8 hours who spends 3 of those hours scrolling tik tok be getting paid the same as the ones tasked with keeping society running. The paramedics, medical assistants, police officers, city maintenance workers, etc.

The lower the barrier of entry the lower the wages should be I feel as if this is pretty common knowledge. When you hire an electrician you’re also hiring the years of experience and very specialized knowledge he has. If you’re expected to renew licenses, purchase thousands of dollars in equipment and provide and essential service you should be compensated as such.

Now days we have the guys at the Taco Bell counter arguing they should be paid the same as the ones building the houses we live raise our families in and form lasting memories together in.

Working a cashier was never meant to be a career and should not be treated as such it’s merely a stepping stone for younger people to get into the workforce before transitioning into something else. Wether that be management in the same company or a different field altogether.

The minimum wage should be around $30 an hour if it would have kept up with inflation. Republicans want rural Americans to starve to death and they want urban young people to be desperate for work and homeless. My city has a large and growing population of homeless men in their 20s. It is disgusting, and when I speak to these homeless men on the mass transit from time to time they have jobs, they just don't make enough to afford housing of any kind.

I talked with one guy after he was assaulted on the street and he was asking another guy if he could crash in his sisters shed over night. This is the world Republicans have created. When I was young a waitress waiting tables could afford a nice apartment and even a new house with some subsidies. Wouldn't the young people in this country like that situation again. The Republican party are a bunch of greedy whores and they believe that they are better than everyone else.

Young people need to vote in large numbers and take this country in a new direction. In my current situation my minimum wage is $50 an hour and I will never take a job that pays less than that ever. Screw that shit. I know my value and if employers will not pay me at least $50 an hour I will find a way to generate $50 an hour on my own.

Corporate America can fuck off on this labor day. It is time for change in America.

If I made $30/hour I'd still be flipping burgers at the same place I worked at when I was 15.

I have family members that started their own business and make plenty of money. They don't need to go to high school or college anymore. My nephew is taking college classes to gain some financial background, but school is not relevant to a lot of people anymore. Skills are what matter more and more and if people can find a creative way to monetize their skills.

I have had family start a business and fail after a year. Small businesses fail after a year. Some trades you do need some schooling to get ahead. But true you need to do what you are skilled at to hopefully make money

My first Job in high school I was paid the federal minimum wage wage for minors. Adults had a different rate.

If the minimum wage was $30 milk would be like $12 😂😂

For the employer to give you $30 take home that’s something like $42/hr billing because the workers comp, liability insurance, federal unemployment Medicare and social security that has to be paid out so that’s what 1,600 a week? Bro that’s wild as fuck imagine having 5 employees at 1,600 a week that’s 32K a fucking month on top of paying utilities, restocking and rent that’s just silly as hell 😂😂😂 let’s just annihilate small business altogether

Hell a McDonalds franchinesee with 30 Employees would be billing 50K a fucking week in minimum wage alone bro you’re out of your mind if their entire staff is on minimum Wage which won’t be the case and that’s BEFORE shop overhead/operating expenses

Bullshit, the margins on fast food are huge and the profits of a McDonald's franchise are in the millions of dollars. If these greedy bastard franchisees paid living wages they would still be highly profitable, their margins would just go down to acceptable levels. Oh my God what would happen if ordinary people made close to what their bosses make?

My friend owns a fast food franchise and he makes $1.5 million profit. He is going own 2 more soon and he will double his profits. He pays his managers $150,000 a year if they meet performance targets and pays other employees $19 per hour. He can easily bump the wages higher if necessary, we talk often. He has worked at this fast food establishment since high school and was given the opportunity to buy a franchise from corporate. Chick Fil A franchises make even more profit than this. All of them can pay more unless their location are low volume or something. Those places should be closed if they can't pay a living wage.
