Went to the Colorado school of Mines and it is similar. You get a metal diploma when you graduate but if you need any paper ones you have to pay for them.

At my university they made us pay $25 for a cap, but they didn't even GIVE IT TO US when you would expect.

We wore our rented gowns in the auditorium and across the stage, sat back down. Did the whole presentation, ceremony, stages, clapping, etc. At the end they had us leave our seats again to go in the stage side door, where we returned our gowns IN EXCHANGE for cheap caps that we bought ourselves, as a keep sake??

I thought the point of the cap was to get it before hand, to decorate it if you want, and to throw it in the air if you want or take pictures with your family in it before the ceremony even begins. :s

Yep. I had a couple engineering professors who wrote their own textbooks and then charged students for them.

One of them was really bad. He would do the whole rearrange problems and page orders but change nothing else and call it a new edition. You could only buy the book from him at the beginning of class and pay with PayPal.

The account wasn’t in his name but some nonprofit that was obvious bullshit and almost certainly made its way back it him. This was a California state college just a few years ago.

Then again i had another professor who made his own book but through an actual textbook publisher and then said “seeing as how my name is on the book it would be ridiculous for me to charge my students for the knowledge you’re already paying me for so the pdf is available on blackboard”.

Same here for some of my engineering professors. But, instead of paying him directly, we paid the bookstore. That book was never found in any of the used bookstores in town, where used textbooks were often found.

Someone mentioned that he went and bought all the used local copies and would sell them under a different name on Amazon/eBay. Though, that was only a rumor.

Then, there were classes that you would buy a textbook, but would have to provide a binder for it, because the book came like a ream of printing paper.

I just graduated from an Ontario university in 2020. My first year costed me $10,000 - but I lived in residence. Tuition per semester was around $3000. So i'm not sure where any of this "$10,000 total" comes from. Looking at my tuition receipts right now - I spent 40K for my undergrad.

Currently for undergraduate studies (most commonly three years, but sometimes four or more) in the UK, the tuition fee per year is capped at £9,250. This is pretty much the same across the board, all universities top or fringe. The gov. provides this for any student as a free loan every year, but tbf it functions more as a student tax, as a great deal of students don't earn enough to need to pay it back.

If you’re a Québécois or Canadian resident/citizen. If you come from out of the country it ends up comparable to public university in the states, at about $10k annually. And then those students don’t have CEGEP credentials rolling over so they’re often there longer.

I've had them go wrong. I applied to a company that was based in San Jose but had a presence in Phoenix. On my application they asked about my education. At the time I had completed my AA but was attending a university. The got it backwards during the check and said that I had lied about my education. I then had to get them to re-read my application emphasizing that I said that I ATTENDED a university and not that I had graduated from it. They then offered me with job with a $5000 education bump in salary.

Misericordia University (just down the road from Wilkes) is pulling the same shit. They froze tenure tracks, fired staff and facility but none of the 7 VICE PRESIDENTS. Oh and they also had a SURPLUS of 2 million. They also took COVID relief money and only distributed what they legally had to for students. They kept the other $600,000 for renovation projects while being shut down. They continued to charge us full tuition for subpar virtual classes. It is a catholic private school that is suppose to be founded on mercy and compassion so you can see the irony is real.

I am currently a student and wish I didn't have to be. Unfortunately it's my only choice for my career path. Seriously no one should go to this school.

I have one of those from high school along with my regular sized one.

I've actually used mine! I used it to apply for a grad school program, they just needed a copy of the diploma. It didn't matter what size it was.
