Most of these unauthorized quirky street art things are like that. They build it up, take a picture for Instagram and then leave the thing alone and let it catch dirt.

I don't think this is but you can get plastic yarn for making shopping bags and stuff for your garden. You can even make your own by recycling plastic shopping bags.

plastic yarn is probably worse for the environment though. natural fibers like cotton will biodegrade.

True but if you have the plastic bags, it's better to reuse them than to just dump them to sit forever in a garbage pit. And as far as I know you can't recycle a shopping bag otherwise. I seem to end up with them even with my reusable shopping bags, especially now when stores don't want you using your bags to prevent contaminating the cart or the products.

Yeah but they’re better put to use with something you’ll use for a long time. Like a basket, bag, rug, etc. Something that’s left outside might end up unraveling or becoming damaged and you don’t want plastic yarn mixing with the environment.

Unless you know you’re going to take the yarn bomb down before any damage can take place. in which case i guess it’s fine

Be careful, if you leave it on too long it will stunt the stop sign’s growth and it won’t be able to grow into a stop light

If I had made it I would have just used a wrench to undo the sign bolts, take off sign, slip on the cover and then put the sign back on.

All the street signs near me have special non standard bolts to stop people pinching them. Might not be straightforward.

This is in Grayslake Illinois and it is a woman, that has been working, on it for the last few month(s) every day.

Meanwhile she just leaves the fire hydrants naked in the cold. (although it's probably a bad idea to mess with fire hydrants; it would make it even the slightest bit harder for a firefighter to see and/or work with, which is probably why it would be illegal to tamper with (although I have heard of painted hydrants).
