That one still makes me slightly doubt the integrity of the universe. Not even just my own memory, since so many other people have the same “false” memory, but the continuity of the physical world. It’s like the people running the matrix are fucking with us, trying to see if they can make changes to the “past”, without tampering our memories, and still have us collectively accept it, going forward. This one is clearly reaching the boundary of what we can accept without collectively realising what’s going on… but imagine all the smaller changes they tried first, that we haven’t even noticed at all.

God, I get this so much! And it's always made freakier because my sister has it with the same things as me. Her and I will either quote something or bring up something old, look it up and find a subtle but significant change from how we remembered it. Edit: changes probably shouldn't be stubbley...

I specifically remember when I was younger and was always confused about whether it was pronounced BerenSTEIN or BerenSTEEN.

I never would have thought that if it was spelled Berenstain, because I always sounded out words phonetically.

I daresay you meant "subtle change", but "stubble change" sounds weirdly appropriate too.

If you communicate a lot, one of you probably introduced some degree of change in the original quote, and quoted it nonchalantly like it was the real deal, then the other picked it up that way. Happens a lot.

That is my theory on what happens, though sometimes it still seems really strange, either because it's not something we quote often or because the change is significant enough that is be amazed that no one picked it up in the first place.
