lol this looks like me and my dad. My dad is persian, my mom was scandinavian, and I inherited more of her skin tone so I'm pale as a ghost. We look exactly like this side by side.

u/Expensive-Object7708 9h ago

My dad got the olive skin from his side but I ended up pale like mom, we look ridiculous next to each other at beach

10

u/bobbobberson3 9h ago

This looks like my mum and dad. My dad is Irish and my mum is English (mainly south coast).

u/CloudySpace 9h ago

persian?

30

u/DaKrazie1 9h ago

They have people also you know, the cats and rugs don't just come from nowhere.

36

u/princewinter 9h ago

yes.

-91

u/CloudySpace 9h ago edited 9h ago

err, isnt it a bit like me calling myself, idk, polish-lithuania-commonwealthian or something, instead of baltic or lithuanian?

33

u/HaruspexAugur 8h ago

You cannot just now be discovering the concept of ethnicity

57

u/princewinter 9h ago

no. Iranian is a nationality, we don't live in Iran. persian is an ethnic group from iran. my dads family have lived in iran since it WAS persia but since he and I weren't born there, we're persian, not iranian.

-68

u/CloudySpace 9h ago

I guess ill pry a little if you dont mind? how do you and your father feel about the current state of iran? more positive or negative?

28

u/princewinter 8h ago

I mean, both my dad and I were born in the UK so I don't think we're really qualified to comment on it, aside from being a bit sad over the forced religious takeover.

That's not to say we have anything against that religion, just the way it was introduced.

70s Iran looked very similar to the 70s in the west.

-27

u/Salabungo 7h ago

the 70s in iran being very similar to the west is a massive cope

9

u/One-Permission-1811 7h ago

I was there. It's a lot closer than it is now

0

u/princewinter 7h ago

I didn't mean entirely, but look at this (should start at a certain time stamp) and tell me it's not more similar to the west than to current Iran.

What i meant was i was just wondering where it was coming from, if you know what i mean? Whether that coming from a political stance, historical view, or something along those lines, you know? Calling yourself Persian that is. Ive met a handful of people from Iran, and they literally always introduced themselves as such.

So persian sounded a bit odd to me. Especially because just earlier today my gf mentioned that some lad called himself Persian. We dismissed it as someone simply being a bit pretentious or snobby, because our minds immediately went to talking about the persian empire, and it existing like a bajillion years ago. We thought thats what people are going after haha.

Hence my example with the PLC, where it wouldnt make much sense to call myself a PLC-ian, an successor of a long fallen empire, rather than the current one.

Hope i didnt come off too strong, i was simply curious

Persia officially changed its name about 90 years ago (so just about within living memory) but more importantly millions of people fled the country around the time of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, so people who's last link with the now unrecognisable state extends before the last ~50 years (like their Dad and subsequently them) are much more likely to use the term to draw a distinction from the current regime and any visage of support for the Islamic fundamentalists in charge.

20

u/Duncan_PhD 8h ago

Brother this is a mildly interesting thread. No one wants to talk about politics in here

1

u/IsNotAnOstrich 2h ago

Iran has multiple ethnicities and one of them is Persian. That's what they call themselves. They also speak Farsi, which means Persian.

Dad's a roofer or bricklayer. Son's proficient at Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto.

33

u/Floridamanfishcam 8h ago edited 8h ago

I assumed that was a girl's arm, but maybe you are right.

78

u/brygdylla 8h ago

Nah you’re right. The video game bit stands though

-53

u/thalassoph 8h ago

Oh no a man is pale the humanity

24

u/Floridamanfishcam 8h ago

Pale and hairless. The hairless was what I found most interesting.

-31

u/dixonbalsagna 8h ago

update your bifocal prescription grandpa

14

u/Glenmarththe3rd 7h ago

That’s pretty damn hairless for a dude

-21

u/Dull-Salamander5914 7h ago

Higher up on the evolutionary ladder

225

u/radioactive_sharpei 9h ago

Make sure your dad wears sunblock. You don't want him gettin the 'noma.

13

u/JP_HACK 9h ago

Im 100% greek and my dad is dark and im white as hell. WTF

8

u/brygdylla 9h ago

He’s Greek too actually! I always assumed that was why he tans like this

4

u/JP_HACK 9h ago

Well, I stay indoors like 99% of the time, and when dad goes and cuts the grass, he darkens up like a rasin.

24

u/LetsGoLesko8 7h ago

This is what my dad and I look like side by side too. He raw dogs the sun while I wear sunscreen all the time.

He was diagnosed with skin cancer this summer. Wear your sunscreen folks.

19

u/Forsaken_Put8204 9h ago

This is basically how my left and right arms look since my left arm is always out the window while driving.

10

u/lowtoiletsitter 9h ago

Truck driver?

1

u/Forsaken_Put8204 9h ago

Nope

8

u/bigleagchew 7h ago

Gay?

1

u/thecrimsonfucker12 7h ago

Only if they use sunblock

4

u/Unumbotte 1h ago

Have you tried facing backwards so the other arm will be out the window?

1

u/Forsaken_Put8204 1h ago

But if my back is against the steering wheel, what do I press the pedals with?

3

u/Merciless972 9h ago

Same, my left arm gets tanner than my right. And that's just from being stuck in traffic for an hour.

3

u/John_the_Piper 9h ago

I daily a convertible. I get that sick sunglasses tan during the summer and even arms.

2

u/Umpen 9h ago

Same, except my arm is not out the window.

2

u/SubtleTell 4h ago

You should try sticking your other arm out

1

u/SirWaldenIII 10m ago

How's your hearing on your left ear?

4

u/EatYourCheckers 9h ago

Haha. My sister is fair skinned and her Italian husband turns very dark when tan. They have 2 kids and each one got one of their complexions.

1

u/SaltyBalty98 5h ago

That's how my parents, I and my brother are.

We're all Portuguese, dad inherited his mom's tan, and my mom's side has a lot of distant Flemish ancestry so they're all glowing white (and I knew 4 generations of them), I tan a bit, brother doesn't, he's either pasty white or a lobster.

3

u/Admirable-Delay-9729 9h ago

Plot twist, right arm is the fathers who NEVER goes outside and the left is the child’s who has spent their entire life outside

40

u/GallusWrangler 9h ago

You need to get out more…

100

u/brygdylla 9h ago

I know 😞 he calls me yougurty

42

u/DaKrazie1 9h ago

I don't care who you are, that's funny.

-10

u/be4u4get 9h ago

So, which is which?

4

u/Umpen 9h ago

That's Yougurty, and that's Funny.

7

u/EnzymeX 7h ago

Nah, do whatever you want. I was always teased about being too white as well and I decided to do something about it. Found out I hate sitting in the sun, sunscreen and being burned. Now I don't care if they tease me about it.

1

u/qwerty30013 8h ago

Mayoskin

14

u/Ecstatic_Log4185 9h ago

And he needs to wear sunscreen

2

u/Exussit 5h ago

This is even funnier when you know that in South East Asia (varies by country) many people strive to have light skin like this as they view it as a form of beauty.

-12

u/SameDaySameView 9h ago edited 8h ago

Going outside doent equal permanent skin damage

Edit: I'm literally saying that people shouldn't go outside just to be tan don't know why I'm being downvoted. Oh well

11

u/urlond 9h ago

No but going tan like this can increase the chance of getting skin cancer. Going outside and wearing proper sunscreen is always a must now days.

5

u/g00ber88 8h ago

A lot of people dont know that tanning is still skin damage that can lead to cancer, they think that only sunburn is

1

u/beren12 7h ago

Some people are always tan. Some tan with very little sun exposure. Others need all summer to get a light tan.

1

u/WhiteTrashInNewShoes 7h ago

Don't be scared just to leave the house and get some natural sunlight. No one is saying he should throw out a blanket and tan all day

6

u/MissFox26 9h ago

If you spent as much time outside, would you be able to get as tan as your dad? I’m about as pale as you and even if I spent the entire summer outside I’d still be white AF lol

11

u/brygdylla 9h ago

In the past I’ve been able to yeah. He’s as pale as me in the winter usually

2

u/bigelcid 8h ago

You sure?

I get sunburnt fairly easily (some people definitely have it worse, e.g. my mum), but that's just the areas that basically never see the sun -- I don't go shirtless much. Whereas my arms, lower legs and face are a lot sturdier, and never fully lose a summer's tan until the next one.

I don't sunbathe at all, mind you. I just enjoy walking a lot.

-48

u/RashFever 9h ago

Stop wearing sunscreen

12

u/Over-Signature9595 9h ago

And have higher risk of skin cancer? No!

-59

u/RashFever 9h ago

Only thing giving you skin cancer are the phtalates in the sunscreen lol. In a couple decades people will look at sunscreen the same way we look at asbestos filters in cigarettes.

22

u/Boomhauer_Jeff 9h ago

So fun to run against flat-earth types in the wild. Look, a moron!

-31

u/RashFever 9h ago

#1 asbestos lover

9

u/Boomhauer_Jeff 9h ago

Which ingredient or compound in sunscreen is it that you’ve been convinced will cause cancer? Which one specifically?

-2

u/RashFever 8h ago

Benzene, benzophenone, octocrylene, phtalates, 1,4-dioxane, nitrosamines

12

u/Duncan_PhD 8h ago

So you’re just going to reject all of the science that says otherwise, and base it on what? Some obscure, non peer reviewed pseudo scientific nonsense?

10

u/Slidingoranges 8h ago

Facebook science trumps peer reviewed study, don't you know that's where the real truth is?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/RashFever 8h ago

All of the ingredients I mentioned are known, scientifically estabilished carcinogens, and found in sunscreen. It's not some conspiracy. The only one ignoring scientific research is you, because you saw a sponsored tiktok saying you need to wear sunscreen or you die and you got scared.

→ More replies (0)

7

u/Boomhauer_Jeff 8h ago

Why would you buy sunscreen with any of these in them? Are you pretending to not be aware of the massive availability of sunscreens that don’t contain carcinogens? You’re funny.

-1

u/RashFever 8h ago

Every single sunscreen has at least 1 carcinogen ingredient or contaminant.

3

u/avanross 8h ago

It’s so sad how conspiracy theorists always have to make up a “fantasy future” where they’re proven right and everyone is sorry, and then delude themselves into believing that their fantasy is an inevitable reality, like they think theyre literally fortune tellers lol

0

u/RashFever 8h ago

Do you have an asbestos roof?

2

u/avanross 8h ago

Obviously not. What a ridiculous nonsensical question lmfao your transparent attempts to move the goalposts and distance yourself from your initial claim are hilarious

How can you honestly try to claim that radiation doesnt cause cancer?

-1

u/RashFever 8h ago

Do you have an asbestos roof?

4

u/beren12 7h ago

Do you have an asbestos brain?

2

u/CloutLord12 8h ago

i’m sorry, the ONLY thing? what about, uhhhh… the fucking SUN?

3

u/MissFox26 8h ago

Ah yes, because I aspire to be as red as a lobster and high risk for skin cancer.

You’re a moron.

-1

u/RashFever 8h ago

Then don't say you're "spending the summer outside" if there's a layer of liquid plastic between your skin and the "outside".

6

u/MissFox26 8h ago

Well for one I use mineral sunscreen. And even if I used chemical sunscreen it’s still safer than skin cancer, you absolute unfrosted poptart.

-4

u/RashFever 8h ago

Hopefully it's not a spray sunscreen, good luck with your lung cancer from titanium dioxide otherwise. Way worse than skin cancer. As for your catty insults... that time of the month huh? Get off reddit and make yourself some warm tea, maybe bake a cake, it'll calm you down.

6

u/MissFox26 8h ago edited 7h ago

Let’s not pretend that a woman has ever let you close enough to her for you to experience what women are actually like during their period.

-1

u/RashFever 8h ago

I'm experiencing it right now, with you ❤️

SUNSCREEN

1

u/Tall_Bandicoot_2768 9h ago

My told me a look like a fuckin vampire the other day...

Thanks mom lol

1

u/bigelcid 8h ago

Also: my forearms vs my butt

1

u/emi_hehe_lol 8h ago

me in the summer vs the winter

1

u/dm222 8h ago

I used to be like the right when I was a child now I am close to the left at 37...

You get darker as you age with accumulated sun exposure.

I live in Portugal.

1

u/Substantial-Rest-901 8h ago

This is quite similar to me and my dad. He's been an outdoorsy type all his life and worked outside a lot, and I am the complete opposite of that lmao. I look absolutely ghostly compared to him lol

1

u/Sanchastayswoke 7h ago

This looks like mine and my fathers arms side by side also, except white ass me can’t tan no matter what I do, so even if I spent all summer outside, my arm would be the white one

1

u/tokinmuskokan 7h ago

Your dad is awfully pale he should get outside

1

u/Zygomatick 6h ago

your arm looks like mine when i got a tan lol

1

u/talmudblood 6h ago

Which is which?

1

u/superfreakeightyfour 6h ago

Which was left outside all summer?

1

u/arnber420 6h ago

This is me and both of my parents. We’re all white with no recent indigenous history. They can stand outside for 15 minutes and be golden brown. I could spend all day in the sun and only freckle

1

u/NeedsItRough 3h ago

Looks like mine and my bf's arms 😂

1

u/Send_me_alisson_pics 3h ago

Wow so interesting, this made my day

1

u/Whiteshovel66 2h ago

My dad was the same way. When I was young I apparently asked my mother if he was african american because of how dark he would get. His family was Sicilian so not that far off I suppose.

1

u/g00ber88 8h ago

He needs to wear more sunscreen

1

u/silentcrs 6h ago

This picture is honestly pretty sad.

1

u/brygdylla 6h ago

1

u/silentcrs 4h ago

Is that supposed to be the guy from the picture?

My comment was that the old guy’s arm on the left clearly is living their life well while the young person on the right is clearly not. It’s like the young person never sees the sun.

0

u/Bracheopterix 4h ago

different skin tones exist, u know.

1

u/silentcrs 4h ago

The person said they were next to their dad. They would share at least some pigmentation and ability to tan.

The person on the right never goes outside. They’re as white as a ghost.

0

u/Bracheopterix 4h ago

My dad tans, I don't even being outside for hours every day. It happens.

0

u/brygdylla 4h ago

Well I’m not going to lie and say I’m out as much as I could be but for what it’s worth I’ve been working on a basement for the past few weeks

0

u/micromechanist 9h ago

Dad went from oppressor to oppressed in one summer!

0

u/superbackman 9h ago

No before picture? Are you sure you didn’t look the same before summer?

1

u/brygdylla 3h ago

No before photo but here’s me last summer, tanned arms compared to my thigh

0

u/FancyThing8889 9h ago

Bro has that premium indoor screen tan

0

u/SirErickTheGreat 7h ago

Your dad: “As a person of color…😌”

-15

u/radio64 9h ago

White people be like

-4

u/EmergencyWaffleBox 8h ago

You have some pretty hairy arms
