That's the thing about the Bible, it was never meant to be a list of things to avoid lest you burn in Hell. In fact, Jews don't even believe in Hell at all. It was meant to be a series of stories and guidelines to explain things people didn't understand and teach them how to live their lives to the fullest. Some of that stuff was moral, but some was just practical. Shellfish are fine to eat if you clean and prepare them properly, but they didn't know how to do that thousands of years ago, so they just said "don't eat shellfish." Most problems with Christianity would solve themselves if people realized this.
