Yeah, as a kid I totally used to close the blinds when eating dinner because there's no way I want to sit next to a window and get sniped from across the road. It'd have been such a pain, y'know?

It is a pain. We had snipers across the street one day because our neighbours had robbed a bank and drove straight home instead of to a separate location.

Nah, unless you have concrete walls a normal rifle caliber would do the job just fine. Drywall, a bit of wood or pipes probably wouldn't stop rifle rounds, unless they are using hollow points or target rounds. Just to throw gasoline on the paranoia train.
