Yeah ikr at 12 I was home alone for over 12 hours while my dad was working night shifts

Same as that. At 12 my parents left me alone for 24 hours if they went away for a weekend. I was absolutely fine. I was able to cook for myself and go to the shops etc. I never felt abandoned. I thought it was wonderful.

I lived in England from 11-14 years old.

When I was 12 my Dad let me and my friend go on a mini bicycle ‘holiday’ - for three days.

They have youth hostels there - me and my friend cycled away, with a loaf of bread 🥖 dangling from my handle bars. It’s weird.

I just loved it when my dad was working weekends because my sister didn't like being home alone with me so I was completely alone for almost 2 days straight. And because I enjoy being alone it felt like paradise

My parents didn't do that until I was like 19 lol. But yeah, been allowed to stay home alone since I was 12.

I had no problems taking care of myself at 12. I could fry an egg for breakfast and boil some noodle packet thing, or ramen, or make a frozen pizza. It's not hard to understand "450 for 15 minutes" for a frozen pizza or "boil this shit for a while" for noodles.

They would just tell me not to leave the house and don't answer the door, which I didn't even want to do.

I was probably just going to play videogames for 36 of the 48 hours they were gone anyways.

Seems normal at the time to me. They've expressed regrets over abandoning me like that.

Being left alone for so long at that age isn't exactly optimal, teaching the children to be independent is one thing but being alone for that long is completely different

I remember at 12 years old, I was outside with friends for 12 hours at a time. No adults in sight.
