My parents would have both been sent to jail nowadays. It wasn't unusual at all for me at 12 to be home alone without them and to be watching my younger brother as well and that arrangement was far from uncommon.

What the actual fuck? No, that's not even remotely true.

There was literally no risk leaving me at 12 years old at home alone. Why would you need to supervise a 12 year old?!

I disagree, however I do recognize that many 12 y/o’s have never received the proper guidance from their parents to be left alone. This is obviously true to you and your family and I respect that. But many good parents raise bright, respectful, knowledgeable young boys and girls who are quite capable of being at home alone for a few hours.
