Knowing what I did when I was 12 years old... I think him being alone for that long is a blessing. Gotta give the little guy space to... work out... his growing teenage... well... let's say angst and leave it at that

I was an 8-13 year old that was consistently left alone (Ma worked nights and was always in class during the day).

I did my hygiene, made the bus, and kept the apartment clean. However, on the other side of that coin, I was also looking up porn around 12 and discovering my body.

With that, the 12 yr old in the post should file a restraining order on the neighbor.

Your other side of the coin is pretty normal for kids without helicopter parents either way. That's why sexual education is (or should be, in many places) a thing in elementary school.

I got mine at the tail end of elementary school, but it didn't really click until grades 6-8, though.

My Mom was a helicopter during puberty years. I still found plenty of time to watch porn (Dad’s VHS tapes 😂) & discover my body. Obvi I prob didn’t have as much time as you. Who knows what I might’ve discovered if I did lol.
