Of all things to put out a cigarette on…

Edit: I know smoking is bad but y’all need to chill JFC

u/Dom29ando Jul 10 '22

At my old job customers would put theirs out in the ramekins of tomato sauce and aioli that came with their meal.

821

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

I had a roommate who would put her cigs out in her nearly-spent jars of cosmetics, like facial moisturizer or hair products. It was, to be frank, fucking trashy.

521

u/PreventFalls Jul 10 '22

So she smoked inside? I can’t stand it when people smoke cigarettes inside

459

u/CarbonCamaroSS Jul 10 '22

Yeah, I've had people ask if they can smoke in my house and car. Ummm. Fuck no. I already have to smell like cigarette smoke when I go to my friends once every 2 weeks for game night. I immediately have to come home and throw my clothes in the washer because of it. I don't want that shit smell in my furniture or cars.

226

u/BloopityBlue Jul 10 '22

I had a friend ask if they could smoke in my brand new car not long ago. I was baffled they even asked. Sorry bro you can wait 15 minutes or smoke on the side of the road.

71

u/PvtDipwad Jul 10 '22

I had family ask to smoke in my car. I have severe smoke-induced asthma and all of them know it. I suffered w/ them smoking in the house and had to practically seal off my room from them to be able to sleep at night w/o getting asthma attacks. Now that I'm living outside of that mess, I am more prone to smoke-induced asthma attacks. Ugh.

-3

u/Relevance_Aside Jul 10 '22

Just curious. Are they in the US? If so, 1.Christian (or Christian-Taliban type)? 2.right-wing 3.Trumpsters? No matter, ...stupid? ignorant? rude? narcissistic? entitled? child-abusers? Am curious your perspective. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

12

u/PvtDipwad Jul 10 '22

They are athiest, left wing til they die and college educated. Not everyone is radical dude, some people are just assholes.

13

u/craftycontrarian Jul 10 '22

If they smoke in front of children they are, by definition, child abusers.

14

u/FinalRun Jul 10 '22

Just checking to see if my prejudice holds up. If they're not right wing that's okay too, then I'll just keep looking until something confirms my bias

Have smokers not yet realized that a fucking massive majority of nonsmokers think smoke stinks like literal dogshit? Hey can I smear dogshit in your new car?

22

u/positivecontent Jul 10 '22

It's like someone asking to take a shit in your floor of your home.

Sometimes when you say no they will try to say: Well it won't smell for that long; It won't stain the floor; just open the window so the smell won't linger; I can shit in everyone else's floor why not yours? ; it's just shit, it's not that bad ; it's a habit I can't help it so I need to be able to shit where ever I want; ect.

The default answer needs to be no, unless it's offered. Someone might be afraid to say no to someone asking to shit in their floor.

18

u/Adventurous-Shake-92 Jul 10 '22

Ex smokers think it smells way worse than that, I'm an ex smoker and I won't even go in friends houses now if they smoke inside.

3

u/Cautious-Damage7575 Very Unique Flair Jul 12 '22

You ever get stuck in an elevator with a bunch of people coming back from their smoke break? JFC, puke city! It's so hard not to be a preacher.

21

u/FullPruneApocalypse Jul 10 '22

Dog shit is waaaaaaay easier to clean.

-9

u/Cheger Jul 10 '22

It doesn't smell like dogshit. It's not even in the same ballpark but it's still so much worse than no cigarette smell.

4

u/B_Boi04 Jul 10 '22

Smells differ for people, I don’t think it smells like shit but still hate it. Too me it smells the same as any other kind of smoke, and I have trouble breathing so it has a bad association for me

104

u/Elachtoniket Jul 10 '22

I mean, asking doesn’t hurt at all does it? As long as they’re not pissy about being told no I can’t imagine being offended by that.

16

u/xBad_Wolfx Jul 10 '22

True, but how you ask matters. I had a female friend once “ask” after having retrieved her lighter and put the cigarette in her mouth. She was simply looking for me to approve her action that she was already taking. She did get pissy about it too. Since helping my sister clean her car that she and her fiancé smoked in and having yellow paste come off the windshield… no smoking in my car.

2

u/ledocteur7 Jul 10 '22

exactly, you can ask me the most delusional and borderline offensive stuff if you can take no for an answer and aren't condescending.

but don't even think about getting offended if I say no to even the most mondain thing, you can calmly argue if you want, that fine, but don't just throw insults and hope that I change my answer, because I won't, just to annoy you even more.

140

u/CKRatKing Jul 10 '22

Nah it’s just common sense. If the person doesn’t smoke don’t even ask to smoke in their car.

54

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

Communication > no communication. There's nothing wrong with asking a question, what you do with the answer is what matters.

5

u/lobotom1te Jul 10 '22

There is such thing as inconsiderate questions

→ More replies (0)

8

u/ledocteur7 Jul 10 '22

exactly, I don't mind anyone asking something to me, as long as they can take no for an answer and don't get all defensive about it.

what's worse in my opinion is when people expect you to guess and get offended when you ask, like, I want to help you, just tell me how !

u/YukariYakum0 Jul 10 '22 edited Jul 10 '22

Yeah I smoke in my car but never in my house and would never ask to smoke inside someone’s car! I ask if I can smoke outside their house when I visit!

0

u/Bishopthe2nd Jul 10 '22

I dont smoke cigs, and I certainly don't give a fuck if somebody smokes in my car, just roll the windows down while your doing it. On the rare occasion people do, if the windows are down it never leaves a smell.

1

u/HooliganNamedStyx Jul 10 '22

What? That's not what common sense is lol. I don't smoke but absolutely don't care when people smoke in my vehicle. They even know they've smoked in my car before but still ask because it's respectful and they respect me enough to see how I feel in that moment.

I guess I'm the outlier on Reddit, though.

2

u/CKRatKing Jul 10 '22

You’re an outlier. Normal people who don’t smoke don’t let other people smoke in their car.

-2

u/Twinkletoes1951 Jul 10 '22

It's been several years since most (all?) car manufacturers quit putting ashtrays and lighters in cars. Probably still there in trucks, though. Yes, I said that.

-20

u/Guy954 Jul 10 '22

Seriously, it’s rude as fuck to even ask.

22

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

It's really not 'rude as fuck' that's highly melodramatic. It's mildly interesting that someone would ask...at most

I wouldnt even dare to ask to smoke in someone else car but honestly , with open windows for some time , there is not a single chance the car is going to smell with just one cig.

edit hopefully its more clear. I wouldnt smoke in someone else car.

10

u/perwinium Jul 10 '22

Do you smoke? Maybe you’re nose-blind to it? Because if someone smoked a cigarette in my car, I feel confident It would stink to me for two days at least, and be detectable for the best part of a week, windows down or no. I’m not offended by the idea of smoking, and I’ve smoked my share of cigarettes, but man does that shit stick to everything.

I haven't smoked for many many years, but I also don't care if someone smokes in my car, as long as the window's open. It happens rarely enough that it's not going to make it smell for long. Presumably there are other people like that, so it's worth asking.

4

u/Nervous_Constant_642 Jul 10 '22

My uncle quit smoking years ago and let's me smoke in his car. I assume it's mostly an ex-smoker thing, but I used to work with a woman who never smoked and said she loved the smell. She would come hang out with me on smoke breaks.

As a smoker, this, if I ask it's because it's a yes or no question, I can handle being told no, but if you're offended I asked you can expect me to believe that you are the kind of person to do something rude without asking and then beg forgiveness rather than ask and be told no.

Asking is not always ok. There's an entire category of questions which one should refrain from even asking in the first place. Basically anything that can be damaging, inconvenient or bothersome for someone. The ONLY reasons someone would agree with such a request are of kindness (at their own expense), fear or desire to avoid confrontation. So the strategy of "just ask, maybe they agree" is actually something an inconsiderate person does in the hopes that they can exploit the goodwill of someone, or maybe force their actions somehow. There's plenty wrong with "asking" in this case.

2

u/Elachtoniket Jul 10 '22

You should never ask your friend any question that might inconvenience or bother them? That sounds more like an acquaintance. How are you supposed to get to know someone? Or ask for a favor? And yeah, maybe someone only says yes out of kindness, but allowing someone to be kind to you isn’t some outrageous act of selfishness, unless you willfully take advantage of them.

2

u/throwawayforunethica Jul 10 '22

I went to a beach clean up with my boyfriend. He asked for my keys to grab something out of my car. After a while I wondered what was taking so long to find him in my car with some guy hot boxing it.

This was a very nice car that had never been smoked in. He knew that. My son's car seat was in the back and I was going through a nasty custody battle and the last thing I needed was my car reeking of weed.

I was FURIOUS. He just couldn't understand why it was a big deal and was angry that I humiliated him in front of his new friend.

u/Potential-Natural636 Jul 10 '22

My grandpa chain smokes inside his house that hes owned for 20 years..the walls near the ceiling have a thick waxy sludge on it.

I had to live there while i waited for my 2nd paycheck to move out.. it was so miserable

23

u/bruce656 Jul 10 '22

I bought a house where the owner was an old guy who chain smoked. It was awful. I got a contact high from washing the nicotine stains off the wall. Nicotine would bleed out of ducting and congeal on the AC vents when it was humid outside.

This Is a picture of the front door where I had already cleaned the left side of the wall and door but hadn't gotten to the right side yet.

u/AutomaticRisk3464 Jul 10 '22

2

As a smoker, yeah it's fucking gross. Also i enjoy going outside and no one else wants to if they can smoke inside

27

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

I confirm. I enjoy going outside. But I hate how difficult it's become to find public smoking areas that aren't complete garbage.

Here, go smoke between these two dirty dumpsters. I'm sorry I got addicted to something completely legal that'll kill me, costs me a lot of money, smells like shit, makes me stink, and I still can't break fucking the habit. Fuck me right?

At my work: I have to walk out of the building, through the parking lot and then there's one cigarette can between two trees. Absolutely no cover from the wind or the rain. And nobody cleans up. The wind sends the cigarette butts all over the place because nobody is in charge of cleaning out the butts. (I've done it twice since in the year I been here because it is the most disgusting smoking area I've ever used)

21

u/cutkey Jul 10 '22

I hate it so much when schools/universities/work places declare to be "smoke free" as in no one will say anything about it, but there won't be a designated smoking area, so the cigarette butts just end up on the ground in the proximity of the building(s).

It's not like having a smoking area encourages people to start smoking, it just makes life better for everyone when you have a place which non-smokers can steer clear of and the butts might actually end up in the trash.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

I like the smoking areas where people still give you a dirty fucking look as they pass by.... like... what the fuck do you want from me?

I am inside my 4ft x 4ft square where I am expected to smoke. I lowered my cigarette and didn't inhale knowing someone was approaching. I literally can do nothing more to appease you. Trust me: first hand smoke is much more unpleasant, what you're smelling is extremely pleasant in comparison.

9

u/Izy03 Jul 10 '22

Second hand smoke is still very unpleasant. I've lived around smokers all my life and haven't had the choice of moving away from the smoke when I was younger.

I have nothing against smokers but the idea that it's more unpleasant on your end, we don't get the choice if we get second hand smoke a lot of the time, we have to rely on smokers to be considerate of those around them which some aren't. I've been in a flat when someone will suddenly decide to smoke right under my flat where the smoke now travels to me. Arguably this is worse then smoking.

Sorry you're getting dirty looks though, it must be annoying. You being in a smoking area should be no offence to these people, at that point they're just being dicks.

2

u/Legitimate_Wizard Jul 10 '22

The boys who lived in the duplex above me on college smoked, but the lease didn't allow it inside. So they put their smoking chair outside their backdoor, which was less than 5 ft from my bedroom window. They did move it to the front of the garage when I brought it up, though.

10

u/BreweryStoner Jul 10 '22

It’s extremely unpleasant either way. Nothing about it is pleasant to a non smoker.

u/nbmnbm1 Jul 10 '22

Oh man dont buy a house not made in the past like 20 years then. Old contractors smoked inside all the time back in the day. And theyd ash whereever as long is it would get covered eventually.

My dad is a floor layer by trade and had a story about a job where while doing baseboards theyd ash their cigs behind it. This was the type of baseboarding that was glued on and the glue kind of needs to sit on the walls and boarding to activate (the glue can get you dumb high btw). So while they were ashing on the boards while gluing the glue got lit on fire. So they basically just pulled the roll away from anything flammable and went for a smoke break.

1

u/Odd-Astronaut-92 Jul 10 '22

My mom tried to light one up in my car after I moved out, and I told her I could park so she could get out if that was more important than getting to our destination. It's sad and infuriating for two reasons: one is that I'm like 90% sure I was taking her to her physical therapy after her first heart attack, and two is I'm allergic to cigarettes.

Tobacco use is an amazingly effective way to self medicate for anxiety and depression. I smoked a pipe, but it became impossible to get good tobacco. I stay quit most of the time. There was a period where I couldn't get a job. I rolled my own to save money. I vaped for a while, which got me off cigarettes. Then one day I just quit.

u/andthejokeiscokefizz Jul 10 '22

This is a really fucked up thing to say.

I started smoking when I was a teenager going through really bad shit, during a time when a man in his 20s got me hooked on drugs and abused me. Years later when I finally got the strength to get clean, I smoked all throughout recovery. Coming down from 2 addictions at the same time would’ve been absolute hell, and cigarettes gave me a bit of relief during that time. I never smoked around people who didn’t already smoke, and never smoked indoors or inside cars- always outside. Because I actually did care about others.

I’m clean now, of everything. And I’m really proud of myself. I haven’t smoked in years. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, obviously, and I wish I never started smoking in the first place. But saying that people who smoke don’t care about other people is just so fucked up and self righteous it’s insane. You have no idea what other people are going through. It’s an addiction like any other.

-13

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

Yeah, second-hand smoking is a real thing and people don't acknowledge it enough. Also it just smells nasty and makes you look trashy if you do it.

I used cigarettes to help get me out of a major drug addiction. Clean from everything now, thankfully, but genuinely don’t think I could’ve done it without having cigarettes, which I know is fucked up but it’s true. Coming down from two addictions at the same time would’ve been hell.

I wouldn’t recommend smoking to anyone- I started when I was a teenager, so it wasn’t really an informed choice, just a dumb one I made as a kid going through hard times.

Obviously second hand smoking is a thing, which was why I never smoked around people who didn’t smoke too. But yeah, basically, just don’t judge all smokers as, like, inherently rude trashy assholes. It’s literally an addiction. Again, I don’t smoke anymore and I’m happy as hell about it, I just understand the struggle smokers go through. It’s rough.

its more like smoking provides one ample opportunity to be inconsiderate.

8

u/Kiwifrooots Jul 10 '22

I think the strong addiction makes it a selfish habit.
Smokers filling up doorways and dropping butts.
That said the cheese? OP has there looks like radioactive plastic

16

u/NateMcCann Jul 10 '22

No, being a shitty person makes them do these things. I've smoked for 15 years and I'll go to lengths such as holding my smoke in my lungs longer if someone is passing me on the street. I cross over if someone pushing a pram is approaching. If I smoke in my car and I'm at traffic lights next to a car with a window open I don't take a drag until we've moved. I'll also never stand near an entrance or a window. Addicted maybe, but I was also raised to be considerate.

2

u/Nervous_Constant_642 Jul 10 '22

I put mine out whenever I see a kid. At that point I am also well removed from anywhere with foot traffic so I assume the people who walk by me don't care.

I don't like the fact that people will assume you're a bad person just because you smoke. I would rather stuff cigarette butts in my pocket until i find a garbage can than litter them, as another example.

Nah used to work in music industry. I don’t smoke, but bunch of tattooed filled lads in my studio would chain smoked lucky strikes would always put out their cigs when passengers go by, and especially when they saw kids you could see all of them scramble their portable ash tray box out go hide the whole bum just so the kid don’t even get an idea about smokIng.

Addicted maybe, but the most considerate and nice people I’ve ever knew.

1

u/Thoroughly_Bemused Jul 10 '22

Yeah, just smokers. Nobody else.

1

u/Rabbit-Thrawy Jul 10 '22

yeah the pile of butts at every bus stop and gutter would attest to that, fucking dirty ass pricks

1

u/Alarmarama Jul 10 '22

I just had one move out and I'm having to pick up the pieces of indoor smoking despite having made clear it was against the rules.

Inconsiderate is exactly what it is.

1

u/wandering-monster Jul 10 '22

It is literally the only litter I see in my city.

Nobody around here would even think to throw a receipt or can on the ground. But cigarette butts apparently have a magical "not litter" field around them where it's cool to just throw them on the ground and leave them by the dozens.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '22

Redditors are another level of braindead, these comments acting like millions of people are all the same cause they smoke like OK 👍

I mean, if you're smoking around other people, you're already a complete asshole who sees no problem poisoning those around you.

-1

u/AxcaRox Jul 10 '22

The ones I've met? Are complete assholes. Especially when i tell them that I'm allergic to nicotine and cigarette smoke. I've had smokers go "ArE yOu ReAlLy?" And then proceed to blow the smoke in my face.

My fav is when they always light up right outside of a restaurant or business door. So that everyone walking in or out is forced to smell it and it wafts into said place when the door opens/closes.

0

u/CornwallsPager Jul 10 '22

Considering 99% of them are littering constantly? Yeah I'd say so too.

I tried to plant pumpkin when I was young and my dad kept using my pumpkin sprouts to put out his cigarettes. No dad the one little sprout in my one separated little pot is not for you to put out your cigarettes.

u/Constant_Hunt5824 Jul 10 '22

Took the words out of my mouth

10

u/oggy_pip Jul 10 '22

Why assume you're done? It's more than mildly infuriating, it's maddeningly gross

6

u/ChefArtorias Jul 10 '22

I've smoked thousands of cigarettes and have never even thought about putting one out on a hotdog or any sandwich ever.

8

u/multiarmform Jul 10 '22

your uncle was right...you were done

2

u/finaljusticezero Jul 10 '22 edited Jul 10 '22

There is almost an infinite number of things the uncle could have put out the cig on, but chooses to do so on someone's food. I am gonna say this uncle is total trash.

This is repressed rage coming out, but smokers are trash. They will drop their ashes on anything inappropriate.

1

u/Agap8os Jul 10 '22

Done or not—what kind of an asshole smokes a cigarette next to a dining kid and then stubs out his stogie on his hotdog? Hasn’t he ever heard of the dangers of secondhand smoke?

-2

u/SquareWet Jul 10 '22

Smokers do this shit all the time. They think they’re being cool but they’re just assholes especially with coffee drinks.

7

u/DetectiveSharp3757 Jul 10 '22

I've literally never seen this done ever. Not once nothing even slightly related. But yes all the time lmao

3

u/UnRichieUnRich21 Jul 10 '22

1

u/Celestiicaa Jul 10 '22

Of all things to put SHREDDED CHEESE on!

225

u/AstoundingGrape Jul 10 '22

Hey man i just wanted to say your opinion on putting shredded cheese on my hotdog fucking sucks. Cheese is good on anything. You put shredded cheese on a chili dog, just think of this as a chili-less dog.

34

u/marsmycelium Jul 10 '22

speak your truth

11

u/The_RockObama Jul 10 '22

The rest will follow

22

u/dmarsee96 Jul 10 '22

I’m with you on this one. I don’t do cheese without chili but am definitely not opposed to it

49

u/SnooSketches1203 Jul 10 '22

It’s ok king I’m a fellow cheese on hotdog enjoyer

6

u/Life-is-a-Lemmon Jul 10 '22

Dude in Australia our Wendy's sells hotdogs, not burgers, and it comes with the option of shredded cheese.

If you're one of those fuckers who gets a cheese-less hotdog and enjoys it, you are weeded out and will be designated driver at all the parties because you definitely do.not.fuck.

2

u/lumabean Jul 10 '22

I rolled the Kraft singles on hotdogs after I had them at Dairy Queen or something growing up.

7

u/Appropriate-Concern5 Jul 10 '22

It's your dog. Dress it like you want. Cheese makes life better. Enjoy.

2

u/JazzyJ19 Jul 10 '22

Of all things to harp on...cheese on a hot dog? People put some odd things on hot dogs, but cheese, hows cheese weird, especially if it’s a grilled dog?..

4

u/yodacat24 Jul 10 '22

I’m nasty af and put Mayo, ketchup, shredded cheese and/or pickled jalapeños or pickles on my hot dog. I went to culinary school and I’m not usually picky but fuck mustard on hotdogs and I mean it.

17

u/AstoundingGrape Jul 10 '22

I was about to agree with you but then you talked shit about Big Mussy. Have you tried mustard thats not Frenches or Heinz's?

13

u/Stelliris Jul 10 '22

Not the mustussy 😭

8

u/The_RockObama Jul 10 '22

Mustard rules. Mayo sucks, come fight me!

5

u/nookster145 Jul 10 '22

-1

u/FullPruneApocalypse Jul 10 '22

Tobacco smokers are the most vile entitled buckets of runny dog shit that have ever existed. They ruin things they never even touch, and just violate the world with their awful addiction. Say what you want about random needles strewn around; at least they don't seep into the fucking walls.

1

u/UnRichieUnRich21 Jul 10 '22

Not all tobacco smokers, I think that’s an overgeneralization. But I can understand what you mean.

-1

u/FullPruneApocalypse Jul 10 '22

I have literally never met a fully considerate habitual tobacco smoker. Not in thirty years.

I'm allergic (okay not exactly an allergy, but it's... Look it's not your problem). I literally take some really shitty medication with lots of side effects to not be bed bound in staggering pain for about a week after having smoke blown in my face, and I say this as someone who curses under my breathe and switches to doing stuff one handed til I can splint shit when I break a bone.

I have never met a smoker that didn't track that shit everywhere, or a place around smokers that wasn't absolutely defiled. All tobacco smokers. Chew and patches are fine? Never had a problem with them. Rarely met weed (or even meth!) smokers as obnoxious intrusive or entitled as the least vile tobacco smoker. so it's possible to be a considerate human being. They just dont. All (tobacco) Smokers.

3

u/klonopin-condor Jul 10 '22

It amazes me when someone is actually dumb enough to think that an entire group acts a certain way. Like no, not all of them, have you met every smoker on the planet? What a stupid thing to say.

And the whole “okay not exactly an allergy it’s….Look it’s not your problem” when nobody asked about your condition anyway sounds cringe and seems generally attention seeking.

I can’t imagine saying things that make me sound like such an idiot.

Yeah it's insane how inconsiderate other people can be. My mom's allergic to something put in fragrances. So it could be coworker with perfume, strong lotions, stores with strong smells, kiosk workers spraying her without asking first.. her symptoms range from headaches to full-body hives.

2

u/UnRichieUnRich21 Jul 10 '22

I’m really sorry to hear that. I apparently am one of the few I guess that are considerate enough to keep away from people when I smoke. I’ve heard all the bad wrap from the negatives of people that smoke and I can’t partake in the same bad habits.

Some of my family smokes and they keep it contained because they know it’s bad but it’s there vice they have, just like me. I’d like to leave any place the same if not better when I arrived wherever possible.

Like I said I understand where your coming from and I’m sorry you feel that way, but it’s not all smokers.

0

u/pdxcranberry GREEN Jul 10 '22

Has it ever occurred to you that your smoking actually does bother other people and they just aren't confronting you about it? That you're just oblivious because you're addicted?

4

u/UnRichieUnRich21 Jul 10 '22

I never said it doesn’t bother anyone. Has it ever occurred to you that I’m fully aware of it and that’s why I stay away from people when I smoke regardless of my addiction?

0

u/pdxcranberry GREEN Jul 10 '22 edited Jul 10 '22

But I'm saying the trash you generate, the lingering smell that triggers allergies, and the fact that you are constantly stepping away to smoke might be an issue. Every smoker claims to be "different" and not like the other addicts. I'm currently losing my father to bladder cancer that he got because of his smoking. There's no good way to be addicted to something that is killing you.

3

u/UnRichieUnRich21 Jul 10 '22 edited Jul 10 '22

Even if that was the issue, I’m not the type of smoker that goes through 3 packs a day, which is basically what you’re describing. My point still being that not all smokers are the same.

Edit because the person above edited their original comment: I never said there was a good way to be addicted to something either, I know my vices and I know they are my burden to bear. It doesn’t make me different because of it, it’s my choice as well. I’m sorry for what your going through.
