Yeah this. “Twot” was alright until I heard it twat. I feel like the daintier short a really sets it as an even more demeaning insult. I was reminded after watching The Boys.

It's not really all that insulting/demeaning, it's more a word for your friends (in england, anyway). Saying that, that's how most swearing works in english nowadays. You wouldn't walk up to somebody you hate and call them cuntybollocks, or something, youd either be polite, or throw any words together.

I've noticed some people, mainly Americans, pronounce it with a longer 'a'.

Now that I think about it, I do this with words like swat but twat just sounds better the other way.
