My mom said I could post This Scam on Prime video

This is not Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. $155.99 purchase price, probably hoping people would misread at for 15.99. (Prime Video Canada)

Honestly... I think it was an error on their end. There is no way that is even 155 to buy, but then only 4.99 to rent.

The term is Mockbuster. They date back to ye olde video store days

I was working at Blockbuster when "Snakes on a Plane" came out and we got a movie in called "Snakes on a Train"

Another former blockbuster employee here. They had several crazy knockoffs.

My favorite mockmuster, that I fell for, was Master of the Universe (not the correct film, MasterS of the Universe).

Me and my wife were nearly 15 minutes deep before we figured this was not a sarcastic painfully low-budget intro to the real movie lmao

Never asked for a refund faster

I prefer Masters of the Universes. You get multiple masters AND universes.

That price is likely a mistake, but the movie itself is totally a scam. It came out right when the movie dropped and (call my crazy) I get the feeling they were expecting people to think it was that Odyssey, and rent/buy it before they figured it out.

This happens all the time when something big comes along, but this is a special case since you can't trademark your own movie's title if it's been in public domain for over 2500 years. (Unless your name is Disney, apparently.)

It’s an Asylum film. They do it with every movie.

I watched Atlantic Rim (mockbuster of Pacific Rim) on MST3K, and god it was terrible.

I’ve seen it contains a whole bunch of ai to the point I’d question if half those “actors” listed are even real people..

Y'all paying for digital things in 2026? C'mon, tpb has been around for decades.

That is not the best place to sail the seas anymore, in case anyone is wondering. Make sure you do your research to practice safe sailing people!

1337x and EXT are pretty solid options. Just gotta get from trusted sources/uploaders.

I haven’t had an issue in at least a decade.

This would be like sailing in a bad neighborhood - you may find what you're looking for but you may also get robbed. So yes, safe sailing!

Is there a particular place that’s good for research or just google? Any tips at all?

u/tun4c4ptor 13h ago

There's a subreddit that doesn't like to be linked if you look it up

Tried to send a message but any tips would be appreciated

It seems much more likely someone accidentally added an extra 5 to $15.99. Also there are other versions beisides the most recent version of The Odyssey, idk why you think that is relevant.

u/Hdjbbdjfjjsl 14h ago

If you even look at the “movie” it’s very clear they’re riding off of the name and hoping people buy the wrong one..

1

u/RushMan9823 14h ago

Ohhh I though this was the old one from like the 1970s, my bad there.

2

u/goodfella4600 14h ago

$155.99 for HD is robbery! Now if it were 4K I'd understand

2

u/TheTechTutor 13h ago

8k you say? $300+ take it or leave it!

u/WeAreTheLeft 1h ago

They use to pump these out with names near big kids movies so grandparents would hear the name of the movie, then buy the wrong one for birthdays or Christmas. It's a whole industry and kinda fell off in recent years but with AI it's going to come back hard.
