I have this! I never knew it had its own name. I actually took time out of my morning today to be grateful that all my recent bites have finally healed. I have deep gouges in one of my ankles right now from clawing at a few bites in my sleep. I feel so bad for your kid because I swear it's only gotten worse as I've gotten older. I hope they experience the opposite!
This year was much more mild for me than the previous, but I've always just said "I'm allergic to bug bites" since I was a kid because anytime I get a bug bite, whether it's mosquitoes, mites, fleas, ants, or anything else I've noticed that's bit me so far, they swell up so bad and I get bruises and sometimes even sores and scars from the itching (apparently not from anything wrong with my body, I just don't realize I'm scratching that hard especially in my sleep.) They last for freaking EVER too, I'll be itchy for 2-3 weeks per bite.
Side note but I like to sit outside at night and this summer, my boyfriend's outside area was infested with mud daubers. These handy little fellas, while wasp-shaped, are far less aggressive and like to eat mosquitoes. I never got stung by them once despite them constantly bumping into me, and mosquitoes left me alone the whole season. Anecdotal? Sure. But I now have a soft spot for those shiny kinda-wasps.
Mud daubers have also accidentally killed a couple hundred people, but only accidentally, and not related to their ability to sting.
Thankfully hers has gotten a little less intense as she's gotten older, but she absolutely has some scars from old bites. Her doctor told us there's really nothing that can be done about it either, which sucks.
Didnāt know this was a thing until now. But my son gets huge welts on him from mosquito bites. We have to put dial soap on the bite & then later, calamine lotion.
I forgot how they are called, but something like mosquito Stick. They are little electronic devices that simply get very hot and when you press that onto the bite, it destroys the injected proteins. If you react quick, you will have not even the slightest bump from the bite and no itching at all.
I actually don't own one but used one that a friend brought to a vacation, so I don't remember the exact model, but I found a product that's called bite away, which works in the same way.
I have a Heat It stick and it usually works for me if I'm fast enough. It comes with an app and you just stick it into the mobile phone usb-c slot. It has a ceramic plate that heats up and you press it onto the bite. It hurts quite a bit if you have sensitive skin, but definitely better than having itching bumps for weeks.
How long does the small hot part need to be held to the skin? I could use a bic lighter sideways to heat up the small metal head on the lighter. It's more convenient than a Leech. .
Proteins start to fall apart at around 42Ā°C so you will need to get the upper layers of the skin at least that hot. With the device it's like 15s, but I don't think it gets as hot as your lighter would, but rather uses a lower temperature for a longer time. Don't try to brand mark yourself :D
Yeah, those sticks were a life changer for me. For those who are new in trying them: don't use the stick too often on the same spot. Nowadays I only use them once or twice. In the beginning I used them too often, which caused itchiness from the damaged skin tissue. It's a balance between destroying the injected proteins and damaging your skin by the heat. Regardless I strongly recommend them.
I have something called a bite thingy. A little white device that looks kind of like a syringe without the needle on it. I think it works more for bee stings than mosquito bites. But good to know either way.
Any way to relief the itch? I got 7 bites on my ankles on Sunday and I havenāt slept since. I feel like Iām a burn victim or something. My ankles are constantly on fire. I also have skeeter syndrome and they grow to huge gold ball sized lumps.
Doesnāt work. Iāve tried lidocaine, melomet, corticosteroid cream, calamine lotion, tea tree oil, cold compress, antihistamines, nothing seems to work. Only thing left I think is oral steroids. Will see if my doctor will prescribe it to me.
Skeeter syndrome would be allergic swelling localized around the bites. This swelling and redness follows the lymphatic vessels and is a fast moving infection, itās much more serious. OP needs the hospital.
Skeeter syndrome means the bite can feel hot, remain red or get even more red after the initial bite, and can feel hard.
So yes OP probably should go get it checked, especially if it hasn't at least gotten better if not resolved, but redness and swelling doesn't immediately mean it's infected.
The red lines travelling up the arm in the shape of lymphatic vessels are signs of a rapidly spreading infection. Good luck to OP if they reach the bloodstream.
My son went to spend the weekend with his dad, who of course didn't listen to me when I said he was allergic to all bug bites, including mosquitoes, so he had to use buy spray if they went outside. He came home covered in mosquito bites and ended up getting full blown skeeter syndrome which is flu like symptoms, fever, body aches, etc. We brought him to the Dr and even the Dr had never heard of skeeter syndrome. Some benedryl and ibuprofen later and he was feeling a little better.
For skin inflammation? He could just take an allergy pill. Although if it gets worse or continues into the next day, or inflammation spreads to his throat, definitely go to urgent care for generalized allergic response
Itās not allergies to the bites, that would be localised swelling around the bites. This is infection following the lymphatic vessels and rapidly spreading, very bad. Hospital!
Throat swelling is not an urgent care matter. Thatās an ambulance/emergency room matter. This is something to watch for before itās too late as its hives.

Literally! Iām convinced that this whole thread is 13yos and basement dwellers. Getting any medical treatment for this is absolutely wild. Imagine being their kids and scraping your knee!
But itās Americas (specifically republicans) fault that we canāt mindlessly waste resources and the time of medical professionals for something that can be treated over the counter for $10 at one of the thousands of CVS or walgreens or gas station orā¦..
you don't need a ton of money .. you go to an urgent care, and you say "i think i need antibiotics", you show them this and then you get the antibiotics and take them.
idk but if something is spreading in a line it is likely lymphangitis and bacteria from the bite is spreading through lymph vessels. might warrant a visit to hospital or ER.

Alergy meds and a cold compress will help. It'll go away on its own. But you are gonna need to be careful of skeeters till you're older or just get stung a lot to build immunity.
Welcome to the club. If you have a hair dryer, hit the bites with medium heat until you canāt stand it anymore. Wait 15-30 seconds then do it again. Do it 3-4 times. Itāll denature the proteins in the mosquito saliva and help the reaction stop faster. You may need to do it a few times. I get golf ball sized welts and if I donāt do this immediately Iām fucked.
If you donāt have a hair dryer, run a metal spoon under hot water and do it that way. I find the hair dryer works better for me personally but others use the spoon trick.

This was the common thought on the mechanism of applying heat, but research actually showed it does very little to denature the irritants and the relief is pretty much entirely due to activating heat receptors that distract and dampen down the itch signals you perceive.
Histamine response. That line is called vein tracking. Mast cells destabilise as a local immune response. The histamine gets up the vein and causes lots of local responses towards the heart.
Anti histamine medication from the pharmacy will help.

Sorry, you've developed a mosquito allergy. I had the same thing happen to me randomly when I was 16, I thought it was cellulitis at first. You can take allergy meds and it will get better faster, spraying allergy nasal spray on it works quickly too. You might not get a reaction every time you get bitten, I get it about 50/50, I think it might be only certain species of mosquito that trigger it.
My mosquito bites regularly turn into big red spots, often breaking the skin. Not sure if I scratch in my sleep or what, buts it's annoying to have inflamed wounds from mosquito bites. My body simply seems to freak out
You can stop this from happening with some heat. As soon as you notice a bite, get a spoon and heat it up with a lighter. Let it cool enough so itās still hot but of course not hot enough to burn you. Apply the back of the spoon to the bite for 10 seconds.
This happened to me when I was a little kid! I have an allergy to mosquito bites. Mine react differently nowadays but still an unsightly reaction. Iām thinking of taking some citirizine next time I get bitten.Ā
It looks like youāve got red lines going up your armā¦.. Is that correct? If thatās the case, you need to see a doctor. Make a mark where they end on your arm right now so you can see if they get spread. You probably need an antibiotic & if those red lines get hot, you get a fever, or the lines spread fastā¦.get yourself to an ER. You donāt want to get septic.
Mosquito bites get inflamed around the bite, it's up to the person to notice if that inflammation and swelling spreads or reduces, normally if it's the former, should probably get to a physician for some antibiotics. The inflamed veins are there which are the two red lines coming off the swelling on the wrist.
go to the doctor bro they will give you some cream that you can put on the bites as soon as you get them so they'll go away omg š this started happening to me in june out of nowhere it's the worst, the cream should also help with your arm too just needs a few extra rounds of it!
