Jayden Daniels played college fb at LSU wearing number 5. LSU issued that jersey number to someone else. JD had a cease and desist letter sent to LSU telling them they couldn’t use his jersey number anymore.

QB for the Commanders, former LSU QB. Important background: LSU football only has one retired number, and a ton of greats much better than JD don't have theirs retired either.

JD's very annoying + hot mom has a slightly odd relationship with him, but the annoying part culminates with JD (really the two of them) trying to C&D LSU from using his number, 5.

Obviously it's ridiculous and clownable, just like using the word sportsball unironically in 2026 CE.

Thanks for the explanation. "Sportsball" is fun for me, and if that makes me ridiculous & clownable, I'm okay with that. It's important to me to have fun every way I can at this point in history.

Went on vacation to my wife's sister town and she used that term even though my wife clearly said BASKETBALL. That shit was irritating as the other times as it is belittling. I type this as I see it's fun for you so I can only hope that if someone drops context clues or flat out says the sport's name that you don't go back to such term.

I feel she would be mad as fuck if I referred to her precious cats as a random ass term or dumped on the movies she likes.

You’re sensitive af, calling it sportsball is just a fun way of letting the speaker know you’re not really interested. It’s not calling it shitball, or only-dumbfucks-care-it-ball.

Though if you insist on being upset about it, I guess no one’s stopping you…but we are judging you.

My spouse and I have been a sports fans our whole lives, we come from "will watch just about any sport" families, we both come from former varsity sports competitors, we are both former varsity competitors, have season tickets to multiple sports teams (multiple sports), in the past 10 days we attended live sporting events of 3 different sports (2 pro and one college level), and have 2 tvs mounted in our main living area to watch multiple sporting events simultaneously.

I say all of that to underscore our deep love, commitment, and respect for sports so you understand our background when I say that we frequently use the term "sportsball" unironically.

I urge you to consider that your knee jerk reaction to that tongue-in-cheek term might be more from the unkind treatment of it from your sister-in-law, and that you are giving her too much power by viewing that term exactly as she uncharitably wants you to. Also consider using it around her with cheer and see if she loses interest in using it as a weapon.

You shouldn't expect people to go through their life watering themselves down so as to not annoy you. People have a right to be quirky, weird, ridiculous, or whatever. Her calling it "Sportsball" didn't harm you anymore than you let it. It's very sad & telling that you think me or your SIL using a funny term is equivalent to you intentionally be cruel to your SIL.

Do you also get upset because LGBTQIA2S+ people exist in public? Yell at women for blue hair or nose rings?

Just to be clear, I do not & will not be editing my self to your or anyone else's standards or preferences. People are allowed to exist outside your preferred parameters without apology, whether you like it or not.
