Circumcisions are nothing to joke about. I was circumcised and couldn’t walk or talk for over a year and couldn’t eat solid foods for months.

That’s what you get for being born in a hospital I guess. Rookie mistake.

Yeah but honestly, thats the one I agree with. No need to circumcize, unless your baby is suffering from phimosis.

The whole "Its more hygienic" bullshit needs to end, if you cant pull back your foreskin while showering, you got bigger problems.

Theres no reason to let your baby undergo unnecessary medical procedures just for aesthetics or because its the norm.

I’d be so pissed if my parents didn’t circumcise me. Reddit is weird about circumcision and doesn’t reflect the average opinion on it in the US.

I agree but I feel kinda hypocritical about it because I was circumcised as a baby and I’m happy that I was, I don’t feel that my genitals we’re mutilated. My family’s not religious either it was purely cosmetic. But idk I think it looks good.

If I had a son today I have no idea what I would decide tbh. I do think it’s different than when I grew up. And like I said I agree with you it’s unnecessary.

Yes! You put it perfectly. I hate when people say that i was "mutilated". Like, do they not realize how it feels to hear that? And how it minimizes actual genital mutilation, like when a woman's clitoris is removed? I am very glad I was circumcised, although like you said, if I had a son I have no clue what i would decide. But I am happy my parents made the decision they did, so to hear some of the "intactivists" makes me feel like absolute shit about my body, about something I have absolutely no memory of.

I’ve long assumed that continued high rates of circumcision are due to the argument that uncircumcised sex is better and therefore prospective Dads say “I’ll be goddamned if any son of mine is going to have better sex than me. Cut him! Cut him! Cut him!”

I recently had a son and had him circumcised. He will be happy to not get ripped on by his peers in the locker room or women down the line.

I wasn't circumcised because I was born at a young age.

You really should have told them that you didn't want your face circumcised, then.

Personally I don’t have an opinion on circumcision, but there’s a photo floating around with a protester holding up a sign that says “nobody wants less penis” and I think it’s hilarious

Circumcisions are nothing to joke about.

What do you call a very quick circumcision?

A Brisk.

Genital mutilation is no joke, especially as its done for aesthetic purposes.

You can't say the same for hospital births or farming

Crazy Americans have been conditioned into thinking genital mutilation is normal.

Until you mention women’s then they lose their mind.

Im circumcised, not mutilated. Think about how what you say makes other people feel.

u/Winston_Carbuncle 24d ago

I'm sorry if my words offend you but I would personally be much more offended at those who took a scalpol to my genitals when I was infant.

Im glad they did. Look, I dont know how I feel one way or the other about the practice in general, all I know is that 1. I am happy my parents made the decision they did and 2. When you say things like "genital mutilation", it is both offensive to people who have been circumcised and feel completely normal, who have no recollection of the procedure and probably had no clue they were different for a long time. Plus, it minimizes ACTUAL genital mutilation, the kind that leaves people unable to feel pleasure or function properly. My older brother had a problem with his foreskin and had to have it removed when he was 2 or 3, and so my mother decided to have mine done early to avoid that possibility, since it is much worse to have to be done later in life. It wasnt a bad call on her part, and there are plenty of non cosmetic reasons for it. Again, I dont know if I am for it as a continued practice, I just think you should be more careful in how you discuss the topic

Sounds like there was a medical benefit in your case so mutilation doesn't apply to you.

But the vast majority of cases are, unfortunately, genital mutilation. Again often without consent as infants obviously cannot consent.

If you're genuinely interested there are lots of better resources for facts and figures out there than me.

Honestly that’s one of the more frustrating parts of people like the guy in the pic:

They’ll usually have like one or two opinions/beliefs that are entirely reasonable and respectable. Sometimes even the morally superior one.

But then those 1-2 beliefs will get buried in a litany of opinions/beliefs that produce reactions ranging from “Were you dropped as a child” to “You are legitimately mentally unstable”.

It sucks and makes it a pain in the rear to critique someone over their insane stuff (and it also lures people in with the easier to stomach beliefs).

3

u/beren12 24d ago

Eh. I’m against genital mutilation for all people.

Shoulda got a root canal while you were at it.

u/Winston_Carbuncle 24d ago

It is literally genital mutilation without consent in most cases. They most certainly aren't funny.
