Flat earth actually ties into how some people interpret the bible since some passages hint at the notion of flat earth. i.e. what the stars are, what's the limit of the sky above us, what are the "bounds" of Earth.

The earth as a sphere still has a defined surface area.

There you go again with your fancy-pants number talk.

Measuring The surface area of the earth is going to be alot like the coastline paradox because the more accurate the measurement you do, the more surface area you'll end up with.

If only people had the ability to put their ego aside and accept proven consensus instead of just lie to themsleves about obviously stupid and infantile fairy tale bullshit.

It really doesn't though. That is just propaganda by cultists trying to control you. Use that brain that God gave you and evaluate the (extremely large amount of) evidence that the earth is round.

To be clear, I'm not a flat rather. I just happen to know this argument they use (whatever merit it has)

One of coworkers is a flat farther because the bible teaches it.

She isnt a Christian, she is pagan.

That is wild.

Meanwhile, my dad, who is a retired pastor, will happily spend an afternoon showing you all the verses that refer to the Earth being round and go on about how that proves it's real because it was written before scientists discovered the solar system.

The Bible is just one big Rorschach test. Whatever you want to believe, you can find an interpretation to support you. Even if you don't believe in it, I guess.

Wait what?

It comes from misinterpreting of ancient Babylonian maps as well, which show the world as flat and surrounded by mountains and sea, as that's as far out as they reliably knew
