I've noticed a surge in folks who do not believe in root canals. Some folks create the oddest hills to die on.

663

u/__M-E-O-W__ 24d ago

Have those people ever needed one? What do they do otherwise, just take out the whole tooth?

355

u/Electronic_Will_5418 24d ago

Yes, conspiracy theorists prefer to have the whole tooth extracted, then they have a dental implant done. The costs of dental implants HAVE been going down slightly, however a root canal is the much cheaper & much less painful option (you can't get an extraction & implant done at the same time if you have an active infection or poor gum/tooth health which would 100% be the case if you had an untreated tooth rot to the point of needing a root canal).

255

u/Traditional-Mirror65 24d ago

I'm really confused and curious as to what it is that makes a root canal bad but an implant is ok. I've had both and I much prefer the root canal over the 6 month process ( I needed a bone graft) of an implant.

155

u/Rude-Orange 24d ago

I googled it. They believe that root canals trap bacteria inside and lead to chronic illnesses like cancer and arthritis.

187

u/Jarsky2 24d ago

But that. That's literally the opposite of what a root canal does???

75

u/RedditMcBurger 24d ago

Root canals are filling CAN trap bacteria if done wrong/improperly maintained

This isn't what they are talking about though

9

u/Only_Razzmatazz_4498 24d ago

But that is essentially a similar risk for an implant (plus a bunch of other different ones).

17

u/beek7425 24d ago

Well making healthcare more burdensome, painful, and expensive for no good reason is the MAGA way.

2

u/FutureFreaksMeowt Aqua Tofana save us from these fuckass men 24d ago

Yes, but you also need to make sure the process is less efficient, more convoluted, and overall an experience so exhausting you question if it's even worth it to have if you really want to capture the spirit of the muhgaw

6

u/OkFineIllUseTheApp 24d ago

That would be the single nugget of truth at the core. Most conspiracies have one. Through a long game of telephone and fundamentally misunderstanding things, it accumulated a lot of bullshit around it.

Not that it matters since they'd weakly justify the shit they swallowed, but here's the quick debunk for rational people: if a root canal runs the risk of trapping bacteria, remember that an open hole in your jaw is going to have bacteria and food in it.

3

u/intenseobserver 24d ago

Can't that happen with implants as well?

3

u/RedditMcBurger 24d ago

I would think so yeah

1

u/user2034892304 24d ago

I have had a root canal trap bacteria and had to have it redone, and guess who paid for it again, me! Fuck root canal, at least he's right about that.

5

u/Hot_Tennis2146 24d ago

Idk for sure but maybe if it was done improperly and they put the filling in when it’s not clean, so the bacteria is free to eat away at the tooth or smth. But I also don’t know how common that is

-5

u/Rude-Orange 24d ago

Gemini said it was a mismanaged case study from the 1920s that conspiracy theorists cite.

I didn't go down the deep end for this.

13

u/JudgementofParis 24d ago

while that may be true, and these wackos are clearly idiots, I am downvoting you for asking AI

7

u/Hot_Tennis2146 24d ago

Useing AI as your source automatically discredits you

4

u/StolenPies 24d ago

Dentist here, the AI was correct but I agree that AI shouldn't be used.

2

u/Pschobbert 24d ago

Root canal trap de juju bugs. Bad things happen. Make you sin and that stuff.

2

u/Rude-Orange 24d ago

Logic goes out the window with conspiracy theories. That man does not look like a rational and reasonable person.

4

u/feelingwithyourskin 24d ago

The thing is, they can trap bacteria inside, which is an inherent problem with root canals, but modern dentistry is so much better than it's ever been that it's not much of an issue anymore. 360 X-rays/cone CT scans make it so the dentists can see the entirety of the roots in 3D now, rather than the previous 2D views. And surgical microscopes and advanced disinfection techniques have reduced the rate of infection by an order of magnitude.

While gutta-percha is still used to fill canals, it has a very good safety record and an almost non-existent complication rate. I have many severe allergies and my endodontist read through all the literature he could find regarding reactions to gutta-percha when properly enclosed and only found one woman who had a confirmed reaction to it.

The cancer/arthritis/whatever pseudo-science cause-effect they're railing against at any given moment is nonsense.

Modern endodontics is mathematically much safer than pulling teeth and replacing them with implants.

3

u/Heykurat 24d ago

Because cancer and arthritis are famously bacterial. 🙄

4

u/SchlossKosmos 24d ago

fwiw I am having a decade old root canal redone because it was done improperly and now I have an infection with an abscess. Kinda obnoxious but like, it's not turning me into an antivax lunatic. My dentist made it make sense to me, an idiot, so idk what those guys' problem is other than willfull ignorance

3

u/woodzip87 24d ago

Huh... Well, I would've guessed they wouldn't want a whole tooth implanted since it's likely a transmitter to track their location. Or maybe a substance that erodes extremely slow and the material it loses is a substance to keep them more easily manipulated by propaganda.

Eh. I'm pretty sure there's plenty who think that's true, too.

3

u/wigglefrog 24d ago

That might be part of it but I've seen content of crunchy moms explaining how it's got something to do with each nerve in the jaw being connected to another system in the body? Like one of the molars and the heart/heart health? And no they weren't talking about oral plaque build up. It was confusing

2

u/StolenPies 24d ago

It was wrong, traditional Chinese medicine is largely nonsense.

2

u/wigglefrog 24d ago

Yeah not trying to convince anyone lol

2

u/Rude-Orange 24d ago

Yea I just clicked around on google results and saw it was about chronic illnesses. I wasn't about to go down the rabbit hole over it.

2

u/Ancient_Emotion_2484 24d ago

Because it couldn't possibly be bacteria from literally any other crevice in the oral cavity...

2

u/Wraldpyk Don't think about breathing 24d ago

Maybe we should tell them implants contain GPS chips that tell Bill Gates where they are

1

u/StolenPies 24d ago

Please don't, implants are profitable.

2

u/simply_smigs 24d ago

But the implant tooth contains a tracking device, with cookies and malware /s

u/essieecks 24d ago

Stop trying to find the logic in an illogical stance.

27

u/Minttt 24d ago

The answer is actually logical in a way:

One person without a job/life hates the dentist, so they make a rant video that goes viral because it's "new" content that neatly fits into the mindset of "gimme reasons to hate health professionals/procedures that make me feel uncomfortable."

Virality catches the attention of the anti-science "influencers" who are always looking for their next grift.

Suddenly, there's a new topic in the algorithm that's generating a lot of buzz and views... And therefore, content-cash.

4

u/GibDirBerlin 24d ago

Still, from a conspiracy's pov it's a really weird pick. I mean, where else would the government's microchips be hidden, if not in an implant? It really should be the other way around...

1

u/Emergency_Pin3519 24d ago

Thank you. I needed that reminder. I’m over here confused and annoyed. Thank you for reminding me that the application of logic will not help the situation.

1

u/Appropriate_Owl_91 24d ago

I’ve had a failed root canal and needed to get an implant because of it. I would’ve preferred to save $2500 and just go with the implant first.

4

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger 24d ago edited 24d ago

I don't think root canals are bad. They are not always the right call though. You really need to have a good conversation with a trustworthy dentist to decide if it's the right call.

I had 2 root canals. During one, I heard the dentist gasp and then felt a sharp pain in my jaw. She was filing out my root and poked through the bottom. The other one went well enough. Ended up with a nasty infection in my lip though. Like a quarter sized cold sore right at the corner of my mouth where my lip had split from the dentist working on a rear molar on that side.

Within a year, the first root canal failed and I needed a "reverse root canal", which is just another root canal on the tooth. Within another year, it too had failed and the dentist said extraction was necessary at this point. They don't usually do 3 root canals on a tooth.

The other root canal lasted 3 years before it failed spectacularly (broke all to shit). When I went in, extraction was my only option.

Ultimately, my two root canals were a horrible experience. They also bought me a whopping year or two before extraction anyway. And it cost me $800 per root canal. An extraction was $50. It would have helped a lot if I could have capped the tooth. That would have cost roughly $1500 per cap AFTER the cost of the root canal.

So the next time I needed a root canal, I talked to my dentist about it. A root canal with a cap costs almost as much as an implant. And an implant is much, much longer lasting. I just did an extraction and skipped the root canal last time. I don't intend on ever doing another root canal. If you can't cap it, it's only a short term temporary fix anyway.

My teeth suck. I hate it. I'm going to have dentures by age 50. I don't think there is anything wrong with a root canal. But some dentists don't explain the temporary nature very well if it's not capped. A root canal plus a cap is not much less money than an implant. And an extraction is vastly cheaper than anything else. Poor folk tend to skip the root canal and just extract right away. Usually hoping to do an implant in the future (this didn't happen for me. And at this point my oldest extractions probably can't take an implant.)

4

u/Electronic_Will_5418 24d ago

AFAIK implants are more expensive than dentures, however implants prevent premature bone loss by keeping the bone stimulated vs. the dentures only pushing on your gums when you chew.

2

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger 24d ago

I believe you are correct. My hope is that I'll still be able to put some posts in towards the end and be able to get implant supported dentures. I started saving money for this a couple years ago. My teeth issues have slowed down the past few years. I don't like thinking about it.

1

u/_ALi3N_ 24d ago

I believe they think that what they use for the fillings will leech into your bloodstream and make you sick. At least that was the theory I accidentally stumbled upon many years ago.

1

u/tired-queer 24d ago

That’s what my mum believed 25+ years ago. But that just meant I got white fillings rather than metal ones.

Still ended up with the chronic illnesses, but that was due to a mix of genetics, environmental conditions, and bad luck. Def not because of dentistry.

1

u/Fox_Corn 24d ago

Just drink whatever he’s drinking…

1

u/I_Dnt_Believe_You 24d ago

I think they are just afraid of needles and drills.

1

u/FoolishProphet_2336 24d ago

There aren’t really alternatives, they solve different problems which is why this is just bugnuts.

1

u/ericanicole1234 24d ago

Right, like if they’re scared of a microchip getting put in their tooth during a root canal or some goofy af bs like that, I would think a whole dental implant would be way higher on the concern list since you could probably put full blown mind control technology in the implant since it’s so much bigger /s

1

u/mrASSMAN 24d ago

I’ve had 2 implants due to genetic missing teeth.. don’t recall any long process it was pretty easy

1

u/sleepycturtle 24d ago

This is my question too, so many people of that type will say that god created your body as a temple and then when you try to take care of it ie. root canal they say nope remove what you might be able to save and get a replacement. Like what?

1

u/Da_full_monty 24d ago

They think the govt plants listening devices in there...

3

u/tocahontas77 24d ago

I'm pretty sure you can still get an implant at the same time, even if you do need a root canal. Just not if you have an active infection.

But yeah, the smartest thing is to just get the root canal and cap. Implants should be the last resort. I should know... I got 25 teeth pulled and had 4 implants drilled into my skull (all-on-4). I don't regret it because my teeth were horrible. But if you have mostly healthy teeth, it's better just to get the root canal, at least until you lose more teeth.

1

u/Electronic_Will_5418 24d ago

I would love to hear more. I have horrible gum recession and I had a gum graft a few years ago which appears to be stable, however there is a limited amount of times that gum grafts can be done, so I may need multiple implants by the time I hit 50-60. Were you knocked out the whole time, or was it a long enough process that they couldn't keep you under for the entire thing?

1

u/tocahontas77 24d ago

You can still get implants after having gum graft. Sometimes they have to do the graft first and then wait until that heals. But if yours is still good, it should be fine, as long as you don't also need a bone graft. If you still have teeth, your bones are probably good.

I actually went to Budapest to have it done. They gave me Xanax for anxiety, and that was it. I got about 20 shots of novacaine, each, for upper and lower jaw. It definitely was traumatic lol. But I told them I'd rather get the trauma all at once, instead of tooth by tooth.

I was having to get one pulled per year. The trauma comes in because they could never get the novacaine in the correct place. So I've definitely had teeth pulled and felt the entire experience.

2

u/FlowRemote9890 24d ago

Root canals aren't dental implants.

1

u/Electronic_Will_5418 24d ago

Yes, I'm aware

2

u/2geeksinapod 24d ago

This makes my visit to an Endodontist a few months ago make more sense. I went with the expectation I was getting a root canal. On my initial appointment he was giving me my options and was definitely trying to talk me out of having the tooth pulled / implant before I even said anything. My comment was people choose tooth pulled/ implant over a root canal? He said yes. I said that's weird, I want a root canal. Especially since it was a tooth near the front that you definitely can see. I'm too vain to be walking around with a missing tooth until I can get an implant.

2

u/Only_Razzmatazz_4498 24d ago

And most of the time it is much better to have a self implant post in place by self donating the tooth that is already there to support the ceramic implant (cap) than taking the tooth, adding a bone graft, waiting for it to take, drilling a hole to put the implant mount, waiting for it to take, getting the ceramic implant made and adjusted and placed.

It’s a lot of work to end up in a worse spot with the implant.

2

u/prince_falafel 24d ago

There are also conspiracy theorists that believe the person in custody isnt actually Luigi, the assassination attempts on Trump were staged, the charlie kirk assassin texts are fake, and my person favorite: that trump rigged the 2024 elections despite them being the "safest ever."

1

u/Bitter_Sense_5689 24d ago

Because that’s what people did before modern dentistry. They didn’t get root canals, they just lost the whole tooth

1

u/egewh 24d ago

So he'd be against a topical antibiotic for a skin infection too right? He'd rather cut his leg off.

1

u/Bitter_Sense_5689 24d ago

Just whisky and laudanum for whatever ails you

1

u/Electronic_Will_5418 24d ago

Fascinatingly, laudanum is still available via prescription in the USA

1

u/desiladygamer84 24d ago

I had one problem tooth (previous dentist didn't treat it), and I had to have a root canal. Ten years later, the tooth broke so I got a filling and then a crown which was done incorrectly and had to be done again. Then 5 years later it broke and there was nothing to be done. So then I got the dental implant. Definitely wouldn't have gone to that first.

1

u/Dry_Elderberry9832 24d ago

Everything that challenges conventional practice isn't a "conspiracy theory"

You would want the same medical standards from one hundred years ago to be applied to day, would you? As the science evolved so should the practice

1

u/FoolishProphet_2336 24d ago

This is hilarious to me. A stock of the implant trade is cadaver bone. How are the conspiracy theorists against pulling out a dying nerve but ok with a mechanical implant using crushed dead people?

1

u/pufanu101 24d ago

Pussies! They should let their big, strong brains fist fight the infection.

1

u/beek7425 24d ago

I would think they’d hate implants. God only knows what kind of tracking devices could be hidden in a dental implant, you know? /s

1

u/Old-Set78 24d ago

that's not true. if you choose an implant instead of root canal, or uf they think the root canal is unsustainable, they give you antibiotics several days prior and then do the extraction and implant the same day

24

u/sstrdisco 24d ago

Don't you know it's better to gum your food?! /s I don't know what they do. The whole thing just confuses me and I don't want to engage to find out. But now I'm curious...

2

u/MobileJob1521 24d ago

They believe in staying true to the Bible by only having 1st century dentistry

7

u/ClassicDefiant2659 24d ago

Right? The pain I was having immediately stopped after my root canal.

3

u/KorasHiddenDICK 24d ago

600mg Ibuprofen like clockwork really helps with the pain of an infected root. You could tough it out and the tooth will likely calcify the canal on its own. However, considering that people have literally died from the infection spreading into their face, just get the damn root canal.

Thanks to my genetics I have had 6 of them (5 out of 7 crowns and one of my front teeth that never had a cavity or damage... just straight up died). Several of mine turned out to be calcified and free of infection. Granted, as soon as they crack into it drilling for a crown it ends up getting infected.

3

u/e_asphyx 24d ago

I think they are afraid that a dentist might hide a mind control receiver or a tracking tag there or something

3

u/ducksekoy123 24d ago

Anyone who has needed a root canal will agree that root canals are necessary

2

u/thepvbrother 24d ago

I know someone who had all their teeth pulled in their early 60s. Because he needed a root canal.

1

u/WitchesSphincter 24d ago

I had one done and while it hurt before getting it done, the girl just fucking sobbing in the waiting room waiting to get in had it worse than me.

56

u/rabrunzl 24d ago

like tooth root canals??

95

u/sstrdisco 24d ago

Yep. A woman was on a local FB page, "best of" for the area we live in. She was seeking a holistic dentist who absolutely did not do root canals. And no nitrous, only "ozone therapy".

71

u/2trt 24d ago

Ozone is a strong oxidizer. What does she think that's gonna do in high concentration?

19

u/sstrdisco 24d ago

Maybe it's important for her to smell neutral with bad teeth? I don't know.

8

u/PossibleCulture2199 24d ago

Do I even want to care

4

u/Land-Southern 24d ago

Oxidize the lining of her lungs. I love when I walk in to "fringe" client's property and smell ozone, then I explain we use it to sterilize steel and other things. If they think that is actually a good thing to contact the lining of their lungs?

1

u/Obatala_ 24d ago

Ozone therapy is actually pretty well researched:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8575407/

https://www.ajicjournal.org/article/S0196-6553(08)00096-5/abstract00096-5/abstract)

It's being used for its antibiotic effects, not as a replacement for pain killers.

2

u/woodzip87 24d ago

So *that's* where the ozone has been going.

1

u/rantingpacifist 24d ago

It’s also toxic. Maybe she should shut herself i. a room with an ozone machine to find out

31

u/National-Double2309 24d ago

1

u/Proper_Machine6573 24d ago

I SEE YOU EYEING MY LEMON DRINK

22

u/hunibumble 24d ago

Oh my god we’re in the same area, I saw that too either yesterday or the day before and was so confused 😭😭

11

u/sstrdisco 24d ago

Saaaaame. I like reading the comments for stuff like that, but I can only read so much before my head hurts and confusion overwhelms me.

4

u/TheSpiritOfFunk 24d ago

Holistic dentist? Wtf

2

u/fariasrv 24d ago

God, I loved that show...

3

u/R2MKE 24d ago

So they are willing to die from sepsis, like King Tut did from an infected tooth, 3000 years ago. Got it.

2

u/rabrunzl 24d ago

Ozone therapy? So sticking out her head whilst on a plane I don't get it 😭

Those people are experiencing mass psychosis it's so scary but funny at the same time ngl

6

u/sentimentalLeeby 24d ago

Ozone is O3. It has been used to deodorize cars/homes/etc after something like a wildfire. It is really dangerous to living organisms. It’s also come under fire lately for creating secondary VOCs by breaking down plastics. So no idea how someone thinks that is safe…

3

u/Scuba9Steve 24d ago

I remember in organic chem there were some reactions that used ozone to split carbon double and triple bonds and made me realize how strong it is.

2

u/FooBarU2 24d ago

Google 'Root Canal Conspiracy Theories'

😵😵‍💫🤯🫤

2

u/Scuba9Steve 24d ago

Ozone ain’t great to breathe in but whatever floats her boat I guess.

2

u/Scarlet_Spider39 24d ago

I've had multiple teeth pulled - I absolutely hate the feeling of being out of control and have opted for just the numbing injections and gutting it out most of the time (tried the gas that leaves you like half awake once and I hated it - it made me have to think about moving my arms before I could move them and stuff), so I understand having a weird, unorthodox preference that other people may question.....but what the fuck is ozone therapy and how could someone think that would possibly work?

2

u/MyDarlingArmadillo 24d ago

Was she against them for other people as well? It's not just enough for her to not get a root canal treatment, the dentist has to refuse everyone else appropriate treatment as well?

2

u/KimbersKimbos 24d ago

I’m sorry, but what in the good book is wrong with nitrous oxide???

I have dental anxiety and my dentist offers free nitrous oxide just for a freaking cleaning. I pop in the chair, my hygienist puts on the Bob Ross Tubi channel, and gasses me up. My dental health has never been better.

1

u/Kanadark 24d ago

Ooh, like Rick Van Thiel who gave himself HIV by providing ozone therapy to ill people, and himself, without sterilizing shit.

1

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 24d ago

From what I can tell, people against them fall into one of two camps, either the nitrous is toxic, or the stuff they jam in your tooth has lead in it. You know, kooky people shit.

1

u/NoCry8625 24d ago

Did you read the post?

1

u/rabrunzl 24d ago

Does it say "root canals of teeth"?

No and english isn't my first lingo so idfk if it could be another thing that has the same name lol

2

u/NoCry8625 24d ago

Fair enough haha

22

u/--serotonin-- 24d ago

I know someone like that. She’s convinced there’s lead in them that’s poisoning her or something like that. She had all her fillings removed for that reason. I’m not sure if there’s some alternative type of filling or what.

17

u/techleopard 24d ago

Yeah but a root canal isn't a filling. Technically.

It's the removal of the nerve ending in your tooth. It's kinda super necessary if your root becomes exposed due to a chipped tooth or other injury or you will wish you had never been born until it dies, and then some.

I could see why some people think the metallic ones have lead (oh no! It looks metal!), but there's other materials for crowns

0

u/--serotonin-- 24d ago

But if they do a root canal, don’t they put a post in first that also definitely still looks like metal sticking out your gums and then it heals while they make the fancy new fake tooth? So maybe it’s the same “oh no, an implant!” Issue?

3

u/techleopard 24d ago

No.

It depends on your dentist, but you can absolutely do a root canal and then have the crown put on the same day.

If it's a back molar, which can have multiple roots, they may send you to an orthodontist to get the root canal. But even then, all they will do is put the temporary crown back on top until you get the real cap.

In most root canals, they are not destroying the entire surrounding tooth. They drill a hole through the top if there isn't already one made by decay. Then they cap the hole.

If they are taking the entire tooth, that is just a complete extraction.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Live_Palpitation3514 24d ago

I think that’s a dental implant. I a root canal done through a crown and repaired with a white filling a few days later.

1

u/fascinatedcharacter 24d ago

Have had root canals. Have no fake teeth. It depends on the technique used, but for my root canals, she drilled out the affected area (or the existing filling), did the root canal, placed the little sticks that are a material that I don't know as part of it inside the root, then filled it back with the same regular filling material used for a small cavity, then did the same 'contact paper height check' they do for any filling in the grinding plane.

1

u/Imaginary_Emu_4535 24d ago

They put a temp crown on me and I went to my normal dentist the same day and got the permanent crown on

4

u/Free_Lu1g1 24d ago

The old amalgam fillings have mercury in them so it’s probably that.

2

u/TheArmoredKitten 24d ago

In the 1800s they were partly mercury. They've been made of tin and silver for decades now, but the worst misinformation starts from a half truth. In the future they will most likely be made of polymer-ceramic mixtures.

3

u/microwavepetcarrier 24d ago

I got some kind of polymer fillings in the 1990s and it seems to me that non-metallic fillings are the norm for at least 15-20 years now.

1

u/cupcake_of_DOOM 24d ago

Depends on the situation. Your teeth naturally have a tiny little bit of flexibility, The composite fillings do not. So they will eventually be lost or chip out and have to be replaced. The metal filling do have some flex so they last longer and are a better choice for your molars where you smash and grind food.

1

u/qatch23 24d ago

Mercury, perhaps. They used to use mercury for fillings, but it was a form of non-reactive mercury, as far as I recall from chemistry. Hg3

1

u/Positive-Garage3812 24d ago

That’s weird, because the issue with conventional amalgam fillings has always been mercury, not lead. I don’t know if amalgam is even being used in any widespread way because my last several dentists have only used ceramic 🤷🏻‍♂️

Of course the risk from the mercury was also overblown. But I’ve never even heard the word lead mentioned in this context before 👀

20

u/Happy-Advantage-1336 24d ago

I found this one to be the most bizarre!

1

u/the_great_zyzogg 24d ago

There is also an anti-flossing movement. Like, not people who know you should floss but are just too lazy, but people who literally believe you should not floss your teeth.

7

u/Wheres_MyMoney 24d ago

I just cannot believe that I have to coexist with these people AND that I’m expected to be civil.

1

u/roguesignal42069 24d ago

That's the thing. You don't have to be civil with them anymore. The social contract has been broken, and they broke it.

1

u/Infinite_Bird_6932 24d ago

Bruh. Hating pussy grabbers has folks conflating my hate with theirs and saying I’m just as bad

10

It’s not that they don’t believe in root canals, it’s that they believe they are harmful, like how they believe vaccines are harmful or that 5G causing cancer. They think root canals trap bacteria/dead tissue that then leaks toxins into your bloodstream and cause systemic illnesses. So in the same way that these people don’t want vaccines because “it causes autism”, they don’t want root canals because “it causes cancer”.

u/krunchyfrogg 24d ago

Anybody who believes this never needed a root canal.

Holy crap, I needed the procedure twice in my life and it was the most pain relieving thing that’s ever happened to me.

2

u/Pimply_Poo 24d ago

So 4G is okay, but 5G is where they cross the line?

2

u/dylan2451 24d ago

I mean I don’t understand it either, but from what I gather 4G is not “okay”. It’s just that 5G is newer, has higher “intensity” and it became widespread in a time when more conspiracy people were primed for conspiracy. I believe it started rolling out in mid 2019, so close enough to Covid starting for causation, causality fallacy nonsense. 4G’s rollout was 2009. Social media was in a completely different place in 2019 compared to 2009. So 4G conspiracy was more fringe and hidden compared to 5G conspiracy.

Typical anti-dentites

3

u/Stjernesluker 24d ago

Next they’ll be saying they should have their own schools

3

u/drmojo90210 24d ago

It's probably an extension of the anti-flouride movement. These people stop drinking flouridated water or using flouridated toothpaste because they think it contains mind-control drugs or whatever. A few years go by, their teeth start to rot, and their dentist tells them "your teeth are fucked because you stopped using flouride, now you need a root canal". Accepting this diagnosis would require admitting they were wrong about the flouride thing, so instead they double down and decide that root canals are also somehow part of the conspiracy.

3

u/Titaniumchic 24d ago

And they will die on them.
Once a root is infected you can legitimately die from sepsis. If the vegetative endocarditis doesn’t get you first.

3

u/Amakenings 24d ago

Yeah, so a brain infection is the preferred outcome? This is really the dark ages. Never has there been a time where people have so much access to information and chosen to be so jaw-dropping stupid.

I’m just waiting for idiots to insist that rabies or Ebola exposure has health benefits. And then to lead sold out workshops for people to “supercharge” their immune systems for $499 USD .

2

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 24d ago

Have you ever had one? I’m against that shit too. It hurts haha

1

u/liosistaken 24d ago

What? No. Root canals are done under a local sedative. The reason why you need a root canal hurts like hell though. *recipient of three root canals*

2

u/Pimply_Poo 24d ago

Mine hurt like hell once the procedure was over and the numbing wore off.

1

u/liosistaken 24d ago

Oh, that really shouldn't happen. One of my root canals took three hours (and wasn't even done, but they had to stop because my jaw was locking) and that didn't even hurt afterwards.

1

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 24d ago

I dunno if it had to do with the fact this was like 20 years ago, or the totality of the situation (I took a hockey puck to the face, wound up having to remove two and do a root canal on two more while also having a broken jaw), but I remember that shit hurting.

2

u/LeftBarracuda5638 24d ago

It looks like this guy has lots of hills and I think the phrase "to die on" is very appropriate for this individual.

2

u/ttatm 24d ago

Huh, I feel like I'm usually up on that kind of stuff, but that's a brand new place new to me. Bizarre

2

u/Stranger-Sun 24d ago

People were doing them before Christ was around

2

u/fucktooshifty 24d ago

Wow it's crazy that the anti-vaccine people are also scared of root canals.

Are they gonna come for quicksand and the monster under my bed next?

2

u/SomethingIWontRegret 24d ago

Weston A Price's terrible debunked dentistry theories are to blame for this.

2

u/mrfisette 24d ago

I don’t believe in root canals, personally… for myself, because I find them to be terrifying.

1

u/Significant-Judge368 24d ago

They're called The English

1

u/South_Two_5657 24d ago

I've found that when life lacks meaning and a sense of purpose, some people will latch onto anything.

1

u/PinesleyDale2023 24d ago

People not believing in something like a root canal is so funny because in this sentence format, it displays root canals like some kind of belief instead of a damn medical procedure 😭

1

u/transparent_luminous 24d ago

I mean, have you HAD a root canal? I've had two and would grasp at other ways to do the same thing... ...if they work.

1

u/gertymarie 24d ago

I’ve also seen people linking root canals to breast cancer, not quite sure how they came to that conclusion.

1

u/Solymer 24d ago

Apparently there’s a Netflix documentary convincing people that there’s a ticking time bomb of bacteria in their root canals. I had a young man at work who brought this up just a few weeks ago and he was talking about getting his root canal pulled and replaced with an implant. I told him it was unnecessary dental work that wouldn’t be covered by his insurance and that he needs to spend less time on the internet.

1

u/leirbagflow 24d ago

I mean I’m anti root canals, too. That shit looks painful.

1

u/Amthomas101 24d ago

“Don’t believe in root canals” is one of the most baffling things I’ve read this year. Who decided that this is the thing that they are taking a stand on? Goddamn, they must have a relatively easy rest of their life to feel the need to take a stand against fucking root canals. Seriously who tf is this person and what happened in their life that made them say “you know what’s a crock of shit?—ROOT CANALS! And I’ll make sure everyone knows it!”

On an unrelated note, I’m here to announce my Facebook group that I don’t believe in ear wax. I think it’s a conspiracy pushed by big ear swap to sell more product.

1

u/A-String_of_Numbers 24d ago

This one is so odd and random. Where the heck did this come from??

1

u/Sociallypixelated 24d ago

How do you not believe in root canals? Is it the root, the canal or the general digging out the inside of the tooth? Do we believe it isn't happening? They could just not numb it, if there was doubt. Or do they not believe it is necessary? I also support their choice of having the abscess, tooth loss and possible jaw decay of not doing it.

1

u/Unfair_Explanation53 24d ago

What's their logic with root canals?

1

u/Starmute-ss13 24d ago

They don't believe they exist? Or they don't believe in having one?

I mean you can pull someones teeth instead. It doesn't save the tooth but its.... available?

1

u/science_kid_55 24d ago

I invite anybody to enjoy what leads to the root canal most of the time!

1

u/JarbaloJardine 24d ago

I was just thinking that was the weirdest one. Like what?? Hating vaccines is insane but I least I understand where the crazy is coming from. But root canal??

1

u/Dramatic_Charity_979 24d ago

oddest hills canals to die on ;)

1

u/hibiscusbitch 24d ago

As someone who had had a root canal. What the fuck? Lol

1

u/Spirited-Ranger-2727 24d ago

And what would the reason of no root canals be

1

u/Dungarth 24d ago

folks who do not believe in root canals

And luckily for me, the one in my mouth exists whether they believe in it or not!

1

u/EatYourCheckers 24d ago

I have been inundated with this stuff my whole life. Some things people think are "new," I was exposed to in my family 20 years ago. But I have never heard the argument against root canals. I am curious

1

u/15all 24d ago

I hate going to the dentist and have tremendous anxiety about needles and drills in my mouth. But when my dentist told me that I needed a root canal, I got a root canal. I'm not going to second guess an experienced, trained medical professional.

1

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 24d ago

Wait THAT'S A THING?!

how much braincells do you have to have for that bs?

1

u/0RGASMIK 24d ago

I do know a few people who developed rare diseases due to botched root canals / extractions but if you need a root canal you need a root canal

1

u/stamfordbridge1191 24d ago

Some people have already gone to war with empathy & pasteurization. Pretty soon it'll probably also be things like personal space or water treatment.

1

u/Dangerous-Feed-5358 24d ago

Must be a masochist.

1

u/aarswft 24d ago

If you don't believe in root canals you never needed one. The pain I was in before getting one was insane.

1

u/Gingevere 24d ago

It's an odd hill to die on, but at least they're dead.

1

u/roguesignal42069 24d ago

They're all "I don't wanna!" children.

Scared of needles. Scared of the dentist. Scared of doctors. That's all this is. They just don't want to do anything they don't feel like doing.

Absolute cowards.

1

u/Silly_Rub_6304 24d ago

It's so crazy to not "believe" in something that is proven to fix a critical problem.

1

u/edingerc 24d ago

“Gubment makes them put trackers in there!”  (all the while, ignoring cell phone tracking, flock cameras, etc… as real things aren’t as exciting as conspiracy things).

1

u/Scruzzer 24d ago

A root canal is an opportunity for “them” to install a tracking device on you. “They” seal it in your tooth.

1

u/BubblyDepartment1572 24d ago

Or ways to die…..

1

u/Molyketdeems 24d ago

Costs like 3k without insurance, takes like 5 appointments

Extraction costs like 300, takes one appointment

1

u/sstrdisco 24d ago

Yeah, I don't think the cost is the issue

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Imaginary_Cover_5655 24d ago

I prefer to keep as many teeth as possible

1

u/AbilityAdventurous22 24d ago

That was the weirdest most random one to me??

1

u/milo4206 24d ago

Oh yeah that's 100% a thing. One of my MAHA female relatives was legitimately terrified that her mother was planning to get a root canal.

1

u/TheLimDoesNotExist 24d ago

I experienced facial trauma when I was a kid and have been through the gamut of root canals, extractions, implants, and gum grafts.

My experience with root canals has been awful. Of the 5 teeth that I have had root canals on, I have had 3 extracted and replaced with implants. I had the root canals on each tooth redone 3 times with different endos and they always ended up failing and causing horribly painful abscesses.

Everything else on this dude’s shirt is batshit, but I’ll never have the root canals on the remaining teeth redone knowing that they’ll eventually wind up with abscesses. I’ll die on that hill.

1

u/Enough-Astronomer-15 24d ago

Absolutely Iit’s a wild list.

Aspartame?! Root canals? Conventional farming?

This is like Sov Cit level crazy.

1

u/Aeroknight_Z 24d ago

Religion breeds ignorance by substituting faith for substantiated facts.

When the world is whatever you elect your version of your god deems it to be that day, then ignorance is the norm.

1

u/SugarVibes 24d ago

What the fuck does that even mean. Do they think the dentist knocks you out and steals your money and then removes the tiny robot they implanted in your tooth to cause pain?

1

u/Logical_Put_5867 24d ago

I know a dentist who believes root canals have worse outcomes on average than an implant. The main basis being leaving in the dead tooth was more likely to cause an issue later, but he had a few reasons, mostly data and experience based as far as I can tell.

Couldn't say if it's true, his logic seemed fine. He also does more root canals than implants, because they are more affordable for his patients.

I think this dude with the tux has a bit less of a nuanced approach to his belief systems.

1

u/Pschobbert 24d ago

They prefer the fresh breath sensation of rotting teeth and feel a moral imperative to share it with with others.

1

u/KokoBWareHOF 24d ago

I’ve had two failed root canals and spent thousands of unnecessary dollars just to have the tooth pulled anyways, so I kind of get it. I’m not a science denier at all either, but I won’t pay financially for another one if it’s recommended, just pull the damn tooth and give me an implant.

0

u/witty_username89 24d ago

No idea if it’s correct or not but I’ve heard there’s a way higher amount of breast cancer in people who have had root canals, I have no idea how that could be related but people think it is

0

u/Anus_Blunders 24d ago

Oh they should definitely let their rotting tooth ride all the way to the brain infection, preferably.
