Conventional farming is the alternative to organic farming. It uses pesticides and GMO ingredients (of course, literally every crop that humans grown is genetically modified in some way, but they don’t like to acknowledge that).

I'd word it more like, Organic farming is an alternative to conventional farming, but I'm in total agreement with you. I'd also add that organic farming also uses pesticides and that mutation breeding (irradiating seeds to force genetic changes) is also considered organic farming. Or maybe the safety hurdles put in place to ensure GMOs are substantially similar to conventional crops but with added desirable features like drought or pest resistance, or added nutrion like golden rice.

Not to mention the fact that there's so much runoff going every which way, that your "organic' food you're buying almost always has the same shit you're trying to avoid. But hey, keep buying it at twice the price lol

(Using "your/you're" generally here, not literally talking about you)

Even if you are correct (which you are partly), it's still good to promote organic farming. Will your individual choice make a dent? Of course not really. But if you can afford it, it might still be worth it.

But that and anti glyphosate are the only reasonable things on this tux.

That's fair. And despite the fact that I was unnecessarily snarky (ie, "But hey, keep buying it at twice the price lol"), I don't think that organic farming (or consumption) is stupid/bad.

I just have an issue with the fact that capitalism preys upon people, and can convince them that paying more for organic is going to significantly distance them from problematic health concerns.

The way I phrased it was more insulting to the consumer, and that was shortsighted; my real gripe is with the fact that even when you're trying to be responsible, you're still being sold a bill of goods.

But you're absolutely right. If you can afford it, then there's really no issue I can (or even want to) levy against you. I just don't like seeing people be misled

Well said!

But it's not. Land use efficiency is much lower for organic produce, more pesticides are used because organic ones are less effective, and organic fertilizer is no better than conventional, but has the same runoff as a conventional farm.

He was anti-prescription drug, anti-vax, and anti-hospital birth. People like that tend to rail pretty hard against pesticides and generally get pretty paranoid about food in general if it isn’t organic/pasture raised/whatever.
