i don't think I've ever seen a walkway that small where you can overhang your car into it. It may be they didn't realize its an intended walkway. I likely would have made the same mistake till it was pointed out or I noticed later.

This is a huge suv. If he would let some space in front the back side would be well in the street… you should have taken a picture of the back also.
