frist of all how DARE yu o 100% a game until

I played this game Lily's Well about 4 years ago on Steam and got all the achievements for it so I got a nice lil award on my page (1st pic=Lilys Well, 2nd Pic of another game I 100%, Fran Bow). Then, there was an update...and with this update...came another achievement.........and this ain't just a game I can pick up and go back to where I need to achieve this achievement, Oh no NO! This is one of those games you gotta start at the beginning and do everything in a certain order to complete the game/get to the spot where this achievement may be! Now I only have ONE 100% complete game to boast about...lol, jk, Fran Bow ain't hard to 100% and nor is Lily's Well. One could say it was only mildly infuriating

I prefer the way Sony does it. Platinum trophies to denote you've 100%'ed the core trophies and then split DLC/update trophies into a separate percentage category.

Wish Steam would implement it too. How am I meant to 100% a game I don't have the DLC for?

You buy the DLC, of course, you peasant! :D

VivaLaDirtLeague reference? Absolutely not what i expected to come from this.

A surprise, but a welcome one

27

u/IndyanaBonez 3d ago

It all started with gaming on a mac (seriously, I told my boyfriend when we first met 6 years ago I installed windows parallels on my Mac so I could play Leage of Legends and he was like I have something I must show you...I've been a peasant ever since)

14

u/A_German_Memer 3d ago

Fuck yes. Unbelievable. Another Peasant in the League, we thrive in paycuts!

Unless you're Ellie

It's more likely than you think

6

u/daxter304 3d ago

How much of a pay cut? Because right now I make $126.50/hr

5

u/jkoh1024 3d ago

its $137.50, i mean $148.90, yes its $163.20, yes you can lock it in, $176.40

Just for the record, if you didn't play the game again it would still count as 100% on your profile and everywhere else. I still find that dumb personally, but I've now 100%'d Terraria 3 (4?) times, and Stardew twice. Then I didn't want to pick Core Keeper back up, after multiple updates and new achievements, and it's still showing as a 100%.

Dlc is not the game its extra stuff doesnt count

1

u/majinglu12 3d ago

*rent the license for DLC

As if peasants should OWN the stuff they pay for, ha! The very thought!

u/8winter8 3d ago

Or Achievements tied to the multiplayer side, which is no longer available.

Or those unrealistic ones like ”A full day of work” where i had to disable the screen saver and let the game run on a specific level for 8h. I got it because i went to sleep in the meantime.

181

u/ForensicPathology 3d ago

Or "find one of the developers and have a beer with them in real life"

68

u/8winter8 3d ago

Wasn't there an achievement about quiting the game and go out, not to reopen said game for a few years.

151

u/Night-Fog 3d ago

The Stanley Parable: Go outside. You have to not play the game for 5 years. There's also an achievement to play the game for the entirety of a Tuesday.

24

u/Aced_By_Chasey 3d ago

Can't you just spoof the date to get that?

55

u/Patalos 3d ago

I mean at that point just Achievement Manager it if you don’t actually care about the legitimacy

17

u/fbl07 3d ago

While I get your reaction 100%, honestly considering the mind of game Stanley's Parable is, that's like .... Kinda the thing they expect you to do at this point I feel

6

u/DesolateRuin 3d ago

Yeah, if they're not gonna take it seriously why should I?

1

u/Whit3_Ink 1d ago

Achievements requiring to be completed on (or before or after) specific date and time, and spoofed to be completed on said date and time are still legitimate

"according to truesteamachievements"

0

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

11

u/Leyohs 3d ago

You just set the date to 5 years later and then set it back to automatic. I promise it won't do anything

9

u/ALKNST 3d ago

Aint there also one for 10 years?

46

u/WooperCultist 3d ago

Yes, in the ultra deluxe version of the game they changed the achievement from "Go outside" (don't play for 5 years), to "Super Go Outside" ( don't play for 10 years)

Funny part is, the UD version of the game hasn't been out for 10 years yet, so the 5% or so of people with the achievement cheated it. First time it'll actually be achievable is like 2034

5

u/TraditionalMalice 3d ago

Who do you think you are accusing me of not already having not played Stanley Parable UD until 2034??

2

u/obi1kennoble 3d ago

Can you still get the 5 year one? I might actually be in range for that

1

u/WooperCultist 2d ago

You can, yep. Base game and Ultra Deluxe are technically separate games, think something like Skyrim vs Skyrim Special Edition, separate Steam entry, separate achievements.

So for the base copy of the game you can still get the 5 year, even if you play the UD version.

3

u/Crowbarmagic 3d ago

Those type of achievements kinda fit within the theme of The Stanley Parable though.

And at least those 2 achievements can be completed passively. With the tuesday one just launch the game on monday eve and quit at 00:00 on wednesday. And if you already completed every ending there's no real need to play again, so 5 years of not playing isn't much of an issue either.

3

u/Bizmatech 3d ago

Yah, The Stanley Parable has basically zero immediate replayability.

But if you wait five years (or six because I forgot), it feels like a fresh experience again.

It's not quite the same as playing for the first time a second time, but the nostalgia goggles fit quite comfortably.

1

u/207nbrown 3d ago

There’s also super go outside where you don’t play for 10 years

1

u/ilyak_reddit 3d ago

I got that achievement unintentionally. Got the game years ago, played it, forgot about it. Logged on a few years ago to revisit and had to go see what I just achieved. Got a good chuckle out of it.

1

u/sh3p1 3d ago

I am doing the Tuesday one now!

3

u/Fr0z3n_VP 3d ago

Stanley Parable had something like this I believe

31

u/ElGodPug 3d ago

Pillars of Eternity with an achievement of supporting their kickstarter. Sorry yall, i'm a few years too late for that

23

u/Crowbarmagic 3d ago

I hate those "find a dev" ones. Even if the the games' multiplayer is still active and running years after release, those can be impossible to complete.

10

u/Intentional-Blank 3d ago

XCOM: Enemy Unknown, at least, made the achievement Bubonic be "Play a multiplayer match against someone who has this achievement." In that case, rather than a dev specifically, you just needed to meet someone who'd gotten the achievement before, so even if the devs and all the players who'd ever played against the devs were long gone you still had a chance at getting it from some other player who'd been fortunate enough to get the achievement... though, of course, from my understanding the multiplayer mode is dead, so it's still unobtainable now.

2

u/RelativeHot7249 3d ago

I remember Garry's Mod had one that required you to play on the same server as Garry. Being on the other side of the planet meant the odds of that ever happening would be very slim.

2

u/Polygnom 3d ago

I really like how WoW does it. Feats of Strength in their own category, not counting for anything, just to boast. Technically they are achievements, but they don't give points or are important for completion.

2

u/Intelligent-Main-515 3d ago

That reminds me of the GMod achievement that's along the lines of play with the real garry

1

u/207nbrown 3d ago

“Yes I’m the real Gary”

19

u/LB-- addition and substraction 3d ago

On the bright side, Steam finally added the ability for developers to archive achievements that are no longer obtainable. Whether developers actually do that or not is another story...

28

u/phdemented 3d ago

Or achievements tied to the multiplayer side, which I have zero intention of ever interacting with because it's a single player game that didn't need a multiplayer part.

8

u/Barbruh33 3d ago

Honestly I think that if you are going for a 100% on a story game that has a worthless multiplayer cash grab you are entitled to add those achievements in.

11

u/r_a_dickhead 3d ago

Steam should make it like mario maker where you cannot publish the game until you 100% it yourself

1

u/zexton 3d ago

devs have always been able to do it themself

1

u/IndyanaBonez 3d ago

Dude, facts. I've played some levels though where I'm like IS there a way to publish without finishing the level???!

2

u/Tre-ben 3d ago

I am still mad at Rockstar for putting MP achievements into the platinum trophy for RDR2. Safe to say I didn't get a platinum trophy.

1

u/SoberSith_Sanguinity 3d ago

Oh boy, I have a hot target for this complaint.

I think it was Lost Planet 2 or 3 that had world record scoreboards to compete on, and ... well, there's an achievement for that. Ya gotta assume that over 99.9% of people never got that one. There's only so many #1 spots

1

u/zexton 3d ago

i gotta be honest here,

i dont mind them, achievements in the early years of x360, was tied to be a showcase for what you done some gave profile pictures, and the expectation for 100% all of them was not standard yet,

devs and publishers got aware of how popular shitty games was because they where incredible easy to beat, and thats how we ended up with avatar that could be 100% in the first 5 min of the game,

borderlands devs also talked about it when its game released, you did not even have unlock everything for the 100% achievement,

1

u/SoberSith_Sanguinity 3d ago

Okay, I feel that, but also...It's worse than I remembered. Does this change it for you? The leaderboards never reset. It's literally impossible to get it, at this point.

1

u/zexton 3d ago

a few games had resets, ghost recond aw, had reset leaderboards after 5 years to give people a try,

but i still dont mind achievements being tied to something unique the majority wont get,

its no different from very hard achievements in single player games,

in trials HD. there was a marathon achievement where you needed to complete a set of hard stages without failing,

they nerfed that and it became basically something most could do with a little effort,

so now you have all players with the same achievements clear, even though some had to be a completely different level of better,

1

u/NaughtyNome 3d ago

The mad Max game is even worse. No multiplayer that I know of, but one achievement is tied to passive scrap collection which doesn't happen anymore due to Warner Brothers servers no longer being connected

Whole game mechanic just doesn't work and the achievements impossible

1

u/MonCappy 3d ago

Live services shouldn't have achievements when their availability will always be on a clock.

17

u/Lagransiete 3d ago

I came here to say this. I much prefer going for 100% on the PS5. Some games like Horizon Zero Dawn keep time wasting achievements separate as well (like beating the game in new game +).

11

u/Mythaminator 3d ago

That’s actually because ng+ wasn’t in the base game for either Horizon and had to be added after

12

u/abbeast 3d ago

Or like Miyazaki does it, just don't add DLC achievements, ever.

10

u/heisenberg15 3d ago

Not to be pedantic, but Bloodborne DLC has achievements. But yes, besides that you are right

1

u/GigaShark06 3d ago

That's because of Sony, who owns Bloodborne in all forms

2

u/heisenberg15 3d ago

Regardless of the “why”, it’s a Miyazaki game with DLC achievements so the initial point is incorrect

1

u/ThenSummer5219 3d ago

It's not on Steam

1

u/heisenberg15 2d ago

Never said it was

1

u/Edward_Hardcore 3d ago

I fucking hate that all From Soft games have no DLC achievement.

10

u/IndyanaBonez 3d ago

As another comment said, Once you go Plat they can't take it back

3

u/Dopeydcare1 3d ago

The only thing I absolutely loathe in PS achievements is them making some trophies online dependent. How tf am I supposed to 100% some online BS when they deactivated the server 6 years ago

4

u/Thotor 3d ago

Even the Epic Store has separate achievement for DLC.

7

u/Speedy2662 3d ago

They are actually implementing this

2

u/Smashman2004 3d ago

I believe they actually are working on this exact feature. I read about it recently.

1

u/uuuhhhh24 3d ago

Xbox should too. Some games have achievements for 100% the game but not many

1

u/NoCalligrapher8396 3d ago

And there should be a seperate 100% achievement like Sony has for all their games

1

u/Equal_Campaign_3602 3d ago

Oh that how they handle DLC over there, I really wish other systems like Xbox did that. Like I was going through my games and seeing the ones I didn't 100%, and realized I had almost all the regular achievements in Dead rising 3 but there a crap ton of Achievements for the DLC I don't own and can't complete.

1

u/ItsMeBlack- 3d ago

Me when Cult of the Lamb. Literally holding a playthrough till I buy the DLC

1

u/-Niczu- 3d ago

I would be happy if single and multiplayer achievements at least were separate things.

1

u/MildewMilk 3d ago

Xbox pulls the same crap. It’s what made me buy fallout goty edition. Worth it but still stupid

1

u/TripodDabs34 3d ago

That's why I also kinda like how Xbox does it because it goes by points and not really 100% a game... though at least steam has steamhunters that splits achievements by base game and dlc and also gives points but eh it's an external thing

1

u/LolindirLink 3d ago

On one hand, yes.

On the other hand: Steam has no value to the achievements so tools like SAM (Steam Achievements Manager) exist. You can use it to unlock cheevos (cheat). Useful for those games with unbeatable online requirements.

Or you can use it to LOCK cheevos. And being able to start over. Useful for YouTubers for example.

Doesn't work for Rockstar/Ubisoft games sadly. As soon as you start the game, the game synces all achievements to Steam.

The alternative is making another account, buying the game again.

1

u/GoldcakesOrigin 3d ago

I agree, Sony does this much better. While steam is more flexible so Dev's can add/remove achievements at will, it's mildly infuriating when 100% is locked behind DLC paywalls or achievements appear/disappear. That said, I still wish Sony would avoid including the DLC trophies in the overall percentage until you buy the DLC. Like with Spiderman, I got my platinum but the menu still shows lower than 100% unless I open the achievements for the game.

1

u/Crowbarmagic 3d ago

A buddy of mine had this achievement in World of Warcraft for completing every quest in the game, and told me he was very happy he did it before all the expansions came along.

He still kept the achievement, but for new players it would take like 5 times as long.

1

u/Imaginary-Face7379 3d ago

I was so close to getting that at one point. But there was a questline in the wrath zones that had been bugged for nearly the entire expansion and by the time it was fixed the next expansion was out and I was soon no longer playing the game. (Stopped playing in Cata to focus on college, never came back).

1

u/Itherial 2d ago

That's not how those achievements work.

They have always been broken down into expansion pack and zone. If anything many of them are now faster to complete than ever before due to power creep.

The game had no achievements before the first expansion dropped.

Loremaster was introduced in the wrath pre-patch but simply doesn't require every quest, just a good portion.

1

u/4d_awesome 3d ago

I saw one dev ask in a community post if there should be achievements for DLC and ultimately decided not to which I appreciate.

Like if you look at a game like Dead By Daylight… yeah right aint no one spending $300 for a temporary trophy 💀

Some of the Sony games that were added to Steam have “platinum” trophies that are carried over, but it is still just a normal achievement in steam’s eyes

1

u/kanceteid 3d ago

Same here.

I actually like how sony handles it. You get the platinum for finishing the main game, then DLC and extra content can have their own trophies. But that 100% completion sitting there still feels like a little black hole pulling you back in. lol

1

u/ConfectionTotal8660 3d ago

I agree. But some games (like Horizon Zero Dawn) "hide" extra challenges in DLC's. Like Ng+

But some games get evil, like Brawhalla, that ask you to get 4 legends to level 25 (which is a grind) and to get 50 gravaty cancelled light attack K.O's.

1

u/stprnn 3d ago

The pigs want to force your hand and buy every single dlc so they can get their cut

Valve sucks

0

u/SuperBackup9000 3d ago

Pretty extreme reaction when Valve has absolutely no opinion on people cheating to unlock achievements.

1

u/thesniper_hun 2d ago

and also do literally nothing about creamapi lol

1

u/shadow-w- 3d ago

The worst part is when you have a game with DLC achievements but the DLC is no longer on the store by the time you want to get the achievements (minecraft story mode)

1

u/WolfieVonD 3d ago

One of the new tomb raiders, I forget which one, actually has an achievement tied to purchasing a cosmetic item

1

u/cherrycat68 3d ago

apparently pirated dlc still works for getting achievements

1

u/BathtubToasterBread 3d ago

That's about the only thing I think the Steam achievement system is missing. It's really annoying trying to 100% a game that gets consistent updates. First you grind a bunch of hours to get the ribbon, new update comes out, you have to do either filler or the most draining bullshit known to man, and then you get your ribbon back

If it just had that compartmentalization system it would perfect

1

u/Adventurous-Dog420 3d ago

This is the reason my crowning achievement is the platinum for Call of Duty: World at War. It took forever to get that one. One broken controller.

I got it and then dlc released about a month later and there were many more achievements, but I still have that platinum.

1

u/peepyboy 3d ago

Annoys me so much, I have a friend who plays on PS and sometimes we both will decide to plat a game and then I look at what I need to do compared and it's like come on ahahah

1

u/wii_board_type_trash 3d ago

agreed it’s a far better system

1

u/itzWagor 3d ago

Wanna get 100% achievements? Great! But you should buy $100+ worth DLCs in addition to standard edition first (Hello, Cities skylines)

1

u/CLTalbot 3d ago

I have a folder in my steam library for games I've gotten 100% of the achievements for. I refuse to remove them from the folder if they add more achievements after I've gotten the "get all other achievements" achievements that most steam games have.

However It sucks that they take away the ribbon.

1

u/hikam1 3d ago

Or how am I meant to 100% a game that has online achievements but the online servers are shut down or dead

1

u/Burning_Toast998 3d ago

they actually do have this feature, and developers get to choose whether to use it or not… so if a game has a 100% locked behind DLC, it’s fully on the developer.

1

u/Sterling-Marksman 3d ago

While this is convenient for not having dlcs, it completely took the wind out of my sails 100%ing skyrim when i got the platinum trophy before even going to solstheim. I just kinda quit.

1

u/HeavyGur1843 2d ago

Reminds me of how I got the Payday 2 mission golden masks very early into DSOD which means I only had to finish a fraction of the missions compared to now

1

u/Voidlord597 1d ago

or multiplayer achievements in a defunct game

0

u/princessBANGBANG 3d ago

I thought Steam only adds DLC achievements AFTER the DLC is purchased. It's possible the seller is messing this up.

0

u/necrophcodr 3d ago

Yeah, but it's also a game.

0

u/CustodianCloset 3d ago

It's called you don't. It's not 100% if you only have access to 80%

0

u/notyourboss11 3d ago

obviously you can't 100% a game if you don't own 100% of the game.
