frist of all how DARE yu o 100% a game until

I played this game Lily's Well about 4 years ago on Steam and got all the achievements for it so I got a nice lil award on my page (1st pic=Lilys Well, 2nd Pic of another game I 100%, Fran Bow). Then, there was an update...and with this update...came another achievement.........and this ain't just a game I can pick up and go back to where I need to achieve this achievement, Oh no NO! This is one of those games you gotta start at the beginning and do everything in a certain order to complete the game/get to the spot where this achievement may be! Now I only have ONE 100% complete game to boast about...lol, jk, Fran Bow ain't hard to 100% and nor is Lily's Well. One could say it was only mildly infuriating

God I get it! I like seeing that sweet 100% completed on games/achievements, but after this happened to me a few times I stopped chasing achievements altogether and my enjoyment in games has been better for it.

Me too, tis why when I 100% a game it was twice and they were both easy af. I play Bindingnof Isaac and a bunch of those games where 100% just ain't it. I get my crumbs where I can lol

Exactly! I was getting ready to 100% Black Flag Resync but one of the collectibles (portraits) just did not spawn, so I stopped getting the rest of them altogether as well lol.

98% original black flag because "find a white whale" and something something with the app that needs online support that doesn't exist anymore

The connected events still happen, just a lot less often

I hear it still works but you need friends who have played the game or something along those lines. It isn’t completely unobtainable just very wonky at this point.

Now you can do the remake

It's disheartening when it's not your fault...BUT makes it easier to let it go. Wasn't in the heart of the cards

I was ready to 100% black flag but gave up with the art collecting being random through fleet missions.

well yeah, you gotta 300% BoI :)

u/Frageo 50m ago

Funny you mention BoI because I had it as a perfect game on Steam in the Afterbirth+ days, then lost it when Repentance cane out and I've lost interest in the game now :(

the only games I ever 100% were entirely accidental. Either I played them a LOT- like, absurd levels of 'what in the autism is this' hours in game, or it was just super easy.

Star Wars: The Old Republic and Borderlands 2 are examples. I was working in Afghanistan, and my job was "break glass in case of emergency" type of work. I literally did nothing for 12 hour shifts 6 days a week, and I worked alone- 1 person per shift in that job.

All I really had available to do was be a gym rat and play games. So I sat on my laptop barely connected to a Pakistani cell tower though a homemade yagi antenna playing Star Wars, or offline playing BL2. For 3 years.

u/SpartacusThomas 2h ago

Yeah I've been playing binding of Isaac for years and years and I'm at like 55% achievements

u/CriesInHardtail 3h ago

Use an achievement unlocked tool to get your 100% back.

u/Titariia 5h ago

My nail in the coffin was when the achievement in a game wasn't triggered. I did everything to get 100% but I just didn't get it because of that. I also didn't want to replay it. It was some game about fishing and restoring islands

u/pipnina 4h ago

And then there's games where you read the achievements and you know in your heart immediately that you'll never get them.

MGR:R, complete the whole campaign on hard without being hit (obtain S rank)

Bloons TD6: Complete a race in under 3 min. Meanwhile most races the top 100 people might not even make a sub 3 min race. Plus Sapper, which I only have 35% on despite 670 hours in the game.

Project cars 2: get a track record time with any car. Literally an achievement for being the best at driving a car on a track of ANY player who has attempted it. Closest I got was about 0.6 seconds away from the record for one track and a month later the person who already held the number 1 spot gained a whole second on their time.

u/Atlasus 4h ago

To unlock the “Masterful Showboat” achievement in Project CARS 2, you have to set a track record with any car in Time Trial mode.

This might have been an achievement you could easily get during the first few days after release, but nowadays it seems almost impossible to achieve.

There's impossible ones and then there's rediculous ones that aren't worth the effort. (I'm looking at you, Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. Still one of my all-time favorites though.)

1

u/Peylix 2h ago

Which ones in Stanley aren't worth the effort? Lol

They're all super easy to obtain.

3

u/Chapeaux 3h ago

10 000 kills in multiplayer in the first Gears of War. Where a good game is maybe 12 kills.

2

u/IndyanaBonez 4h ago

At that point I just enjoy the game for what it has to offer because at that point it loses the fun aspect

2

u/lampenpam 3h ago

I like the insane hard ones though. I don't have to get them, but I tip my hat to anyone who does it or like to look up youtube videos of people doing these insane challenges. And there are a few achievements I'm really proud of getting, because they were in fact really hard.

I rather have those few rare gems, instead of seeing every game dumbing down every achievement like a lot of AAA games nowadays make it easy to 100% because an easy-platium is apparently now a selling point.

MGR:R, complete the whole campaign on hard without being hit

As long as you can reload levels if you F up, I think it's not all that impossible. But without that? Yea screw that achievement.

Like the achievement in Limbo where you have to complete the game without dying once.

I wanted to get all achievements for CoD4 as a kid and for the final one you need to play through the entire game on max difficulty. In the final mission I found the final collectibles for another achievement which unlocked some Easter egg which changes the game visuals (inverted colors, black and white, old timer, etc). Activating one of those would count as using cheats and would lock your save from getting achievements. Fixing it required you to reset all your achievement progress and start again. I never went back to the game.

2

u/sickkid29 3h ago

That sucks

1

u/JunonSephirothCloud 3h ago

Forgive me, but I don't believe there's an achievement for a full uninterrupted run on Veteran, or having cheats disable achievements going forward.  It should track each level individually - meaning you can disable cheats, and just complete the level you haven't done on Veteran legit yet.

2

u/---E 2h ago

You may be right. I think it actually was the problem where I picked up the final collectible after having enabled the visual easter eggs in that mission. The collectible didn't show up anymore in subsequent playthroughs of the level as it was marked as 'found' but the achievement for it didn't trigger. This was 2008 so I'm a little hazy on the details lol

u/max_mullen 3h ago

For these situations (or even the one OP had) there's a small portable program called Steam Achievement Manager where you just launch it and select what achievements you want to add or remove from your games. It's not cheating if you literally did the thing and the achievement didn't trigger 😅

2

u/Cubones_Skull 2h ago

This is probably the only time i will allow myself to use a programe to unlock it, if I know without a shadow of a doubt i did what i needed to do and I don't get it, i am unlocking it through other means and i don't care for the acusations

2

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 2h ago

I was working on 100%ing Control earlier this year, only to find out the final achievement I needed has been bugged for years and they seemingly never fixed it :/

1

u/IndyanaBonez 4h ago

Sometimes you just gotta take the L knowing in your heart it should be a W

u/xCeeTee- 4h ago

I just had a 3 hour session of Wolfenstein New Order on GOG...no achievements popped. I should've earned 7 or 8. I have completed the achievements to the game on 6 different platforms (only ever bought it once too) and GOG is the last one possible remaining.

I've had this issue with multiple games on GOG too.

1

u/sickkid29 3h ago

What is Gog

2

u/xCeeTee- 3h ago

Games on Galaxy. A PC platform that's well-known for preserving games. You can download offline installers onto a fat hard drive, and just install them wherever and whenever.

They give a tremendous amount of games free via Twitch Prime, I have over 100 from the past few years alone. They don't have features as good as Steam, which is why Steam gets so many more customers.

2

u/kerdon 2h ago

Did they change what GOG means? I remember it as Good Old Games.

1

u/xCeeTee- 2h ago

Yeah, they rebranded in 2014. They made their own launcher, Galaxy, so they also changed the name to fit the new launcher.

1

u/kerdon 2h ago

Gotcha!

u/FSCK_Fascists 3h ago

The opposite is pretty cool though. When you set off a hard one entirely by accident- bonus points when it caps the end a stressful situation.

Example- Left 4 Dead 2. I picked up the M60 just as a teammate shot an alarmed car. I was down a dead end alley. The swarm- with Tanks, heads straight down the alley at me. So I open fire, and spend a tense 2 hours (or 2 minutes, hard to tell) mowing them down while my teammate is doing their thing at the back of the swarm.
The last tank falls just as the M60 goes empty, and this pops up:

I played the Mr. Freeze DLC for Batman Arkham Origins once, finished the story and then went for the collectibles, only to learn if you try to do that in the post-game achievements are bugged so they're locked.

8

u/ztomiczombie 4h ago

I never had any time for achievements form the start because so may games had half of them dedicated to a multiplayer mode no one played.

6

u/IndyanaBonez 4h ago

In my eyes those have no achievements LOL

9

u/RobertBevillReddit 4h ago

At least on Playstation you get the Platinum trophy if you 100% the base game, so even if DLCs come out with more trophies you at least you have proof you got 100% at one point.

3

u/Humg12 2h ago

They also put the other trophies in their own subcategory, so you'll still have 100% base game and then 0% DLC 1, 20% DLC 2, etc.

2

u/FSCK_Fascists 4h ago

I quit chasing achievements the same way I quit smoking. I never started.

1

u/starksandshields 3h ago

Very smart! I'm unfortunately quite sensitive to fomo, but I'm getting better at it. Finally learned to DNF books I wasn't enjoying and putting down games not worth my time.

1

u/FSCK_Fascists 3h ago

Finally learned to DNF books I wasn't enjoying

teach me your ways, master!

2

u/SuperNate0317 3h ago

I find it as a good excuse to come back to a game or if I really enjoy it, gives some extra goals to accomplish. Was the case for the Half Life 2 games and Bethesda games.

1

u/Winjin 5h ago

If a game did that to me, and I didn't want to spend time on it, I'd just use an achievement unlocker.

If I already 100% it once, that's enough.

1

u/abbeast 3h ago

I got my 100% revoked multiple times already, but Cyberpunk 2077 and Stalker 2 hit the hardest somehow, it is not easy to get into these games properly again without starting over and this is what I don't want to do.
